Log 4:

Good morning! I'm up extra early today because this is it! Today's the day! At seven we'll finally be making the final jump to move into orbit of Leviathan 623, so I thought I had to get one last log in before we actually make contact with a whole new world with life on it!

We've done all the boring stuff, spending the last few days looking at the various bodies within the solar system, and we've been waiting for contact back from Earth.

An odd quirk of reality as it stands right now is that it is actually easier to move mass across the universe than it is information, don't ask, it's way beyond me, but the gist is that communication with homebase is more involved than just sending a quick text. To send a message back to earth faster than the speed of light, we need to attach an engine to an F-Punch that can blast its way back to Earth's range. Apparently it's easier when there ain't living things on board, so our messages get back and forth way faster than we got here. One of the many, many downsides of the fleshy forms we find ourselves in, but I majorly digress. The point is, we finally got the go ahead!

The scientists onboard and the scientists down below are in mutual agreement that it is time to approach the planet after observations throughout the solar system. We already knew that the star, a G-type like our sun, was similar enough and Leviathan 623 is placed in the same Goldilocks zone as our own, allowing for the existence of liquid water, obviously. We also already knew the number of planets and their approximate composition, but our close-up observations have yielded some interesting results that were not visible from a significant distance away. Some that are rather unprecedented even given the situation that we find ourselves in.

I'll try to be as clear as I can with our findings so far, but we don't really know what to think of it yet either. The gist is that we found signs of life on all of the planets. It is not to the extent of Leviathan 623, but there is organic matter present on the "surface" of the each planets, including in the clouds of the gas giants, of which there are two, and there is evidence of organic matter in the atmospheres of all the planets, much like the cloud that floats above our target.

This book's true home is on another platform. Check it out there for the real experience.

Now, that is already mind-blowing, it certainly blew mine, but there was one more observation that challenged our understanding of life as we know it: there is evidence of life within the vacuum of space in between the planets.

We observed the cloud and have come to something of a conclusion that the organic phenomenon seems to interact with the atmosphere that it surrounds, but it also seems to be able to operate independently of what we have observed. There are what appear to be long strands of this organic matter that stretches between the planets, connecting to each of them even as they orbit.

In my scientific opinion, and this is a thought shared among all of my peers, this is insane. Far beyond anything we thought possible for life with Earth as our only reference. We have no idea what we're witnessing out here, other than it is something beyond anything we know or understand. Our physicist, Dieter, spent a whole day mumbling to himself about impossibilities and nonsense while the others frantically worked to gather further data as we waited for our instructions.

I'm not a particular slouch when it comes to the various sciences, I can usually hold my own in conversations, but I will admit that this kind of discovery is beyond my reach for any expertise I hold. I've been doing my best to be helpful, but the best I've managed is making sure that everyone is stocked up on their coffee and stroking the occasional ego to make sure everything goes smoothly. I don't understand the physical, ethical, biological, oceanographical?, or any other "icals" to the depth that my companions do when it comes to this discovery. The only thing I know for sure is that the knowledge that we'll acquire here will forever transform our understanding of reality, because it already has.

I would like to go over the exact kind of data we've gotten over the past week, but I don't feel that I could do it justice, especially in this format with Kakuii. I might invite the others to give a kind of official report, or maybe bring Kakuii to one of our ship meetings, but that will be a ways out, as we're going to be very busy for the next few days, and I don't want to ask for something so personal while everybody on the ship is in work mode. Also, I'm not sure if it's legal. Tallu is on the team on the ground, but I'm not one-hundred percent that she told people about you, Kakuii, at least not that you were coming with. We'll see.

For now, though, while it's still early and I got some time, I'm going to get ready for the day. Shower, shave, dress, then get everybody's coffee ready! If my job is to be a space-barista, goddamnit, I'm going to be the best space-barista this ship has ever seen!

Kakuii! Play my theme song and then end recording.
