2-Ambush

Having gotten a level up, as well as a new skill, the boy first decided to check the change that had occurred in his status window, as well as to see what his new skill was all about.

-I hope I got a good skill, Ark show me its description.

-I'll show it to you right now.

SKILL: CALM MIND (F)

DESCRIPTION: ALLOWS THE USER TO KEEP HIS MIND CALM IN DANGEROUS SITUATIONS.

-Hmm... I guess I shouldn't have gotten too excited since it's an F rank skill, but if you think about it, it's a great skill that will help me in decisive moments.

After seeing what his new skill was all about, the boy set out to distribute the stat points he had gained, he kept thinking for a while about how to distribute them, until he realized that he had 0 points of magic power, which was very strange to him, so he went to the assistant again:

-Hey Ark, why is my magic power statistic 0?

-That's because in order for one to obtain magic power they must absorb mana and integrate it into their core and that's only possible if you have a mana training method.

-That means that I won't be able to increase my power until I get that training method," he said a little crestfallen.

-Don't worry User, you will be able to increase your power but, as your stats are at 0, when you manage to increase them to 1, unfortunately, you will experience great pain, as your body will go through a process to accept the mana you are absorbing.

Arthur remained thoughtful, evaluating whether to increase his magic power or not, since he felt a little afraid of going through this painful process, but in the end he decided to do it since, at some point he had to do it, so he decided to put 1 point in magic power, 3 in strength, 2 in speed, 2 in reflexes and 2 in vitality.

Once his stats were distributed, he began to feel a strong pain throughout his body, it was so much pain that, for him, seconds seemed like minutes and minutes seemed like hours, only one thought was going through his head: when is this going to end?

After a few minutes, the pain began to diminish until a few moments later it stopped completely, he felt happy because he had finally finished that painful experience; then he stood up to notice that his limbs had grown, he thought that this was an effect of having increased his statistics and, in addition, he felt as if his energy had recovered...

Feeling so refreshed he wanted to continue hunting but it was getting dark, so he decided to return to the Guild, since he was not strong enough to hunt at night, so he decided to be cautious.

When he arrived, he looked for Caroline, whom he quickly found, approached her and gave her the goblin's tooth as proof that he had passed the mission; Caroline immediately picked up the object and left to look for her badge. Arthur could notice a slight smile on Caroline's face as she left, shortly after she returns with the F rank hunter's badge and hands it to the boy.

At the same instant that Arthur holds the badge in his hands, he receives a notification from the system.

-DING... HAS COMPLETED THE MISSION.

-DING... HAS RECEIVED THE SCANNING ABILITY (F)

Arthur was very happy to have received another skill, but he still had a big problem to solve: he had no food, no money to buy it and to top it off he lacked a place to stay... He immerses himself in his thoughts looking for a solution to these important problems...

Caroline sees the thoughtful boy and asks him:

-Is something wrong little Arthur?

-I have a little problem... I don't have a place to stay, and I don't have money to buy food...

Seeing how worried the boy was, Caroline leaves for a moment and, when she comes back, she gives him 30 copper coins, after which the boy asks:

-And why are you giving me this?

-You said you didn't have any money, so now you do.

-But this is your money, the money you earned working here, I can't accept it just like that.

-Don't worry, it's my pleasure to give it to you besides if you feel so bad about taking it, pretend I lent it to you, when you earn money doing missions you can give it back to me.

Arthur was still reluctant to accept the money they were giving him, but seeing that he had no other choice he accepted it.

-Well... thank you very much, Caroline.

-Oh, by the way, since you don't have lodging, you'd better stay in the Guild's rooms, although they are not as comfortable as the rooms in the inns, they are cheap since they cost 5 copper coins a night and each meal is 10, so will you stay?

Arthur didn't even have to think twice, for considering his situation this was the best option.

-Yes, I will stay.

-Perfect, then talk to that girl over there, she's the one who handles the lodging issue.

-Ok, see you tomorrow, see you later," said the boy saying goodbye and thanking her again.

-See you," said Caroline.

After saying goodbye, Arthur talked to the girl who managed the lodgings, paid for two nights and a meal, which left him 10 coins. After dinner, he went to his room, opened the door, stared inside to notice that there was a bed, a wooden tub, an old closet and a small shelf next to a bed; as he was not used to sleep in these conditions, since he was a person of modern age his habits and conditions were different, but strangely he did not feel the atmosphere unpleasant, on the contrary, he felt it very cozy.

Seconds later he was already lying in bed, thinking about the day he had had, about everything that had happened to him and about what could happen to him in the future. Before falling asleep, he wanted to see what was the skill he had obtained as a reward for the mission, but he was so tired that in the end he fell asleep before he could say the phrase: Status Window.

When he woke up, he felt the warmth of the sunlight, it was already dawn, he got up, stretched for a few minutes, got dressed and left his room with only one thing in mind, to earn more money.

Going downstairs he sat down at a table and ordered breakfast from the waitress who waited on tables; a few minutes later they brought him his food which was nothing to write home about: grape juice and bread and butter; the bread was not in very good condition and the grape juice had almost no flavor, even so he ate it with great pleasure given the time he had not eaten anything for a long time.

After breakfast, he approached the mission board to choose one; there were several types, some were to help nobles in their chores, others to serve as a bodyguard, to collect materials, etc ... For a few moments he looked at the board and, in the end, chose to choose the mission to hunt five goblins whose reward was 100 copper coins.

This was the best for him, he would earn a good amount of money and, in addition, he would level up. After picking up the mission sheet, another holographic window appears in front of him again.

MISSION: GOBLIN HUNTING

DESCRIPTION: HUNT 50 GOBNLINS (0/50)

REWARD: 5 SILVER COINS, RANDOM EQUIPMENT (F)

Seeing now that the content of the mission had changed he was surprised, as he did not expect it, also seeing the amount of goblins he had to kill he was even more surprised.

-This must be a joke, it's still hard for me to kill goblins one by one, and now they want me to kill 50!

He couldn't believe it, but when he saw that the mission was still there, he knew it was true, so he could only accept the reality and put all his efforts to complete the mission. But first he approached the counter and talked to Caroline, since every time a hunter did a mission he always had to notify about the mission he was going to do, as a precaution so that in case it failed or the hunter died, the guild could know which had been the last place he had gone to. The boy notified his mission and immediately headed for the Cursed Forest.

Just before entering it again, Arthur tells the system to show him the description of his new skill.

SKILL: SCANNING (F)

DESCRIPTION: ALLOWS THE USER TO DETERMINE AN APPROXIMATE OF THE TARGET'S STATS.

-This skill will be very useful to me, with it I will be able to see how strong my opponent is.

Minutes later he walked silently through the forest and while studying the terrain, in order to find any element that would be useful in case something happened that could become a danger.

As he went on, the atmosphere felt darker and heavier, it was a scene that could make anyone's hair stand on end but, strangely, the boy felt calm and focused on his goal. Moments later, he managed to encounter two goblins so he quickly retreated and hid behind a bush, avoiding the goblins to notice his presence.

Seeing that this time he was facing two and not one, he thought carefully about how he was going to kill them, so in the end he decided to go with the same strategy as before, but this time it was going to be a bit different: before fighting he decided to use the SCAN skill (F) on the goblins since they caused him a bit of curiosity.

NAME: GOBLIN

AGE: 1

RACE: MONSTER

STRENGTH: 1~5

SPEED: 1~5

STAMINA: 1~5

REFLEXES: 1~5

VITALITY: 1~5

INTELLIGENCE: 1~5

Seeing that the goblin's stats weren't that high, he decided to execute his plan; just like before he picked up a stone and threw it towards the side where the monsters were, who upon hearing the sound come closer to where the stone fell, so Arthur picks up his dagger and inflicts a wound to one of the goblins in the neck that killed it instantly, but the other one could notice the boy's presence so he moved back a few steps, moment that Arthur took advantage of to throw his dagger that, very precise, flew through the air, crossing the distance between them to stab into the goblin's chest, who fell backwards, breathless.

The boy took a deep breath, feeling the adrenaline running through his veins, he approached the dead bodies, recovered his dagger with a determined movement because he knew that in that forest lurked other dangers and that he was not always going to be so lucky although, for now, he had won this battle.

Although he seemed to be in good shape, the echo of the fight still resounded in his head; the rays of sunlight hardly made an appearance and the silence of that horrifying forest seemed deeper after the fall of the goblins; with the dagger in his hand he felt safe, but he knew he could not let his guard down, that place was full of mysteries and surprises and the monsters could be very cunning and treacherous. As he advanced, the rustling of the leaves under his feet mingled with the murmur of the wind.

Suddenly a subtle, almost imperceptible sound caught his attention. He stopped for a few moments to listen better, his instinct told him that something was not right and, just as he turned, a small and agile goblin came out of the undergrowth, rushing towards him with a sharp sound, its face was twisted, as if in anger and, in its hand, it held a small dagger.

Arthur barely had time to react, with a quick movement, he raised his dagger, but the goblin was fast, so he threw himself to the side, to dodge the attack and, countering with a slash, scratched the arm of the boy who was surprised by the pain, but he knew he could not stop, he recovered and countered, trying to deliver a decisive blow to the goblin, but that creature was agile and elusive so he moved quickly, dodging the attacks; Arthur was determined and, with a leap, managed to corner the small creature against a tree.

The goblin, seeing himself in a precarious situation, made a decision and decided to make a suicidal strike, but this time, the boy was faster and, with a precise movement, plunged his dagger into the goblin's side, who let out a piercing scream before falling to the ground, motionless.

Seconds later another notification is heard.

-DING... YOU HAVE LEVELED UP.

Breathing heavily, feeling the adrenaline still coursing through his veins, Arthur crouched down, trying to catch his breath, as he watched the fallen goblin. He knew he had to be alert, the ambush had been a reminder of how dangerous the place was; he wiped the blood from his wounded arm with the goblin's rags... Seeing himself in his situation, he decided to return to the guild with the frustration of not having been able to complete his mission....
