Chapter 5

Only a few moments later was the exam paused and the blue-tinted protective wall removed.

Group 1 stumbled out of the arena, unable to even stand on their feet. They groaned and panted in pain from the traumatic experience.

Everyone sitting at the bleachers was taken aback by the spectacle, whispering and murmuring.

“A Garmr is that strong?”

“How are we going to defeat that thing?”

“They didn’t turn down the pain receptors!”

“I think I might forfeit as well.”

Without giving the examinees any time to adjust, the examiner called for the second group.

“Group 2, step into the arena.”

The second group nervously stepped into the arena.

It was another one-sided battle between the examinees and the Garmr. Their legs shook in fear and they were not even able to set up a proper formation.

“STOP STOP WE FORFEIT!”

The rest of the exam continued as such, with the best score being a single scratch on the Garmr’s leg.

Things were looking grim as no group was able to pass the practical exam.

During this time, Lucas had observed some key behavioral patterns.: the Garmr would only attack if someone was in a 10 feet radius. This meant that the Garmr

The snake-like examiner yawned in boredom while the younger examiner’s face tensed up. Even the middle-aged examiner had a look of disappointment on his face.

“Group 20!”

Group 20 nervously stood up. Bholajun had now lost his previous confidence and became much quieter. They were like a group of zombies who’d lost all hope.

They entered the arena and the blue-tinted wall appeared. The Garmr materialized in the center of the glade. No one dared to be the first to attack, and everyone was so deadly silent that even the sound of someone gulping could be heard.

Under immense pressure, Bholajun stepped up.

“Haha…a lowly Garmr dares try to harm me? You all! Support me!”, he ordered everyone.

Bholajun took his sword and charged straight at the monster. His minions hesitantly followed suit.

His sword moves were well-trained as he tried to slash at the Gamr’s fur. The moment he stepped within its 10 feet radius, the Garmr started attacking. The slash from his sword only created a nonfatal injury. The Garmr pounced on him, biting his arm with a loud ‘crunch’.

“AHHHH G-GET THIS OFF ME!”

He panicked as the Garmr would not let go of its hold no matter how much he tried to get it off.

Even his minions did not dare try to help him. Lucas could only click his tongue at Bholajun’s stupidity.

Bholajun had dropped the sword in his hand and it slid across the grass. He was now unarmed with the Garmr on top of him biting into his shoulder fiercely.

He had the perfect opportunity to take advantage of the Garmr's bad eyesight. But instead of attacking from a distance, he just charged recklessly

and got attacked himself.

Both the Garmr and his teammates were distracted, now was the perfect time to carry out his plan.

Using the shadows of the trees as a cloak, Lucas moved behind the Garmr with his spear in hand. He managed to pick up the sword that Bholajun had dropped.

To deceive its sense of smell, he covered both the sword and his spear in dirt and mud from the ground.

The Garmr was currently distracted by the others, its back was turned and Lucas was over 10 feet away.

Lucas took a javelin-throwing stance and readied himself. Putting all his strength into his arm, he used his whole body to throw his spear.

The spear flew past the trees with a ‘swoosh’ and pierced right into the Garmr’s back.

The wound the sword created was not enough to kill the Garmr, but it created a moment of vulnerability.

A head of red copper hair neatly beheaded the Garmr in one strike.

Just like that, the Garmr had fallen.

The test had ended.
