Chapter 8

"Young head!"

After hearing this sound, the brown-haired, intimidating middle-aged man sprinted towards the group of men.

They had left for only about twenty seconds, so they had yet to go very far. It only took the anxious man the time to light incense to reach them. When he arrived, the six men were staring at a young man, horrified.

The young man was completely recovered in blood from head to toe. His clothes were in a mess; they were torn in several places as if ripped by claws. Looking at the boy's reddened spear it was obvious he had been fighting some sort of beast.

"Young head!" The bald looking man known as Zi Chang calmed down and finally rushed to examine his injuries. However, he soon was relieved after he determined that the boy didn't suffer any kind of harm.

"Please excuse my rudeness, young head, we..." Zi Chang was interrupted by the sound of impending footsteps.

The men gathered in front, bowed and opened a path for the newcomer. The man didn't even bother to look at them, his vision was entirely focused on the boy. His temples were narrowed and his teeth were rubbing against each other. His fists were also clenched as he walked towards the lad.

"Father!" The young man gulped as he noticed who the man coming was. He was a bit uneasy and his face showed traces of fear. At long last, when the man he called father arrived, he said in a hurry: "Sorry, I won't do it again."

The man dismissed the boy's words and simply hugged him while muttering: "You got me worried sick you brat."

"Sorry..." The boy who was, in fact, Zi Ming couldn't think of anything else to say. He didn't intend to cause trouble for this group of people. Now even his usually proud father was about to cry in front of his men.

Above all, he felt a mixture of warmth and shame for his actions. It felt like he had returned to being a mischievous six-year-old kid.

Stolen novel; please report.

"Wuwu!"

All of a sudden, cute barks resounded nearby. The men were caught off guard.

"A pup?" Zi Chang and Zi Tao stared at each other in wonder. As they were about to move someone said:

"Don't bother, it's my new friend being a bit shy."

Zi Ming immediately let go of his father and proceeded to walk in the direction of a bush. He retrieved something from it and placed it at his feet.

"This is..." The men were staring at a ball of black fur. It was wagging a cute tail but its head was a bit down as it looked back at them curiously.

"My new pet." Zi Ming didn't want to get into the details. There was too much to explain and too much to avoid explaining. Right now, all he wanted to do was eat and sleep.

The men didn't question the young man further. Although they wanted to probe, they knew better than to provoke the tall man backing this young genius. If anything, they were more curious about the boy's lack of injuries.

On the way back Zi Ming and his father walked several feet behind them and talked in whispers. Zi Ming explained how he fiercely battled the group of wolves. His father was listening attentively.

When the boy started to recount how he was ambushed, the man was angry. He wished he was present so he could slaughter one by one this impudent group of beasts with his own hands.

As the narration continued, Zi Tao was impressed by the craftiness and determination of his young scion. He managed to fight with such calm and devise such crafty maneuvers that the group of wolves found themselves helpless.

After this long and tiring battle, his son was also able to create a safe escape route. Worry was soon replaced with pride on his face.

He knew his son was capable, but he had no clue how much until today. Still, some details of the story were fishy. As he thought of these issues, he looked at the terrible state of the boy's clothes and thought: "This boy is clearly hiding things from me."

He shook his head and sighed.

"No matter, as long as he's fine..." Zi Tao was thinking. "My family will finally be able to flourish several years from now."

He had heard strange stories about all sorts of genius in his young years.

He even had gone to the main clan and seen incredible experts. His grandfather who was originally coming from the city had already warned his descendants about the vastness of the sky.

As long as his son was steadily growing stronger, he wouldn't ask him too many questions.

"You better get ready for a scolding when we get home. Your mother and sister are probably about to die from worry as we speak, young man."

Zi Tao laughed and said.
