I brought Hilda back to the compound. She was unconcious, bleeding and pale. It was my fault... again.
I remember staring at her just as i stared at Brit. I remember not caring and letting it happen.
I remember the guilt that had choked me for years rise from it's firey grave. I remember it strangling me again.
''JASON!''
I snap back to reality.
The entire Consulate is staring at me. Six powerful people and two even more powerful ones. They look angry, furious even, and all i was doing was daydreaming.
We are in the meeting room. It is brightly lit with grey walls and has a boxy feel. The room is surprisingly large. But then again, i feel so small.
''Jason, do you have any idea on what you have just done today?'' The Magistrate is leaning on the dark desk. His dark hair appeared to have white streaks but he is no older than thirty.
''I am aware, sir.'' i reply, trying to steady myself.
''Then you know that you have failed your duty for the fourth time.''
''Yes, sir.''
''And you know what has to be done.'' The female magistrate says from beside the standing male magistrate.
''Wait,'' i pipe up, ''Hold on, I haven't even said my side of the story.''
''We heard enough from Hilda's side.'' The female magistrate says, leaning back on her chair and crossing her muscular arms. '' Why do we need to hear yours?''

''Because it's the law!'' I smack my hand on the table. ''It's justice!''
''He's right, ma'am.'' the female Rogue leader says. ''He does have the right. The law is with him.''
''Very well then.'' she looks straight at me with those intriguing hazel eyes. ''Tell us your story.''
So, i tell them my story. The entire time, Nicole (the female magistrate) kept her eyes firmly on me. It is obvious that she doesn't believe and i don't think she ever will. Darryl, on the other hand (the male magistrate), seemed to believe me all the way. Afterwards, i keep my trembling hands on my lap and try to calm down.
''Your story matches with what Hilda says.'' Darryl taps the tabletop then he looks at his partner. ''What action must be taken?''
Nicole remains staring at me, but she nods her head. ''If you want candour, i'd like to throw you into the murderers and let them slaughter you but,'' She sits up and sighs. ''I have to agree that your story matches with what Hilda says. so, i will leave Darryl incharge of your jurisdiction.''
She stands up and immediately leaves. We are all surprised at her stubborn gesture. Darryl is a bit shocked himself but he clears his throat and looks at me.
''Jason, your case is not as big as Nicole makes it seem but your unreliablility troubles me. I do not think you are brave enough to protect lives. So, I suggest we remove you fro the Rogue firm and suspend you for a while. That means you are not allowed to leave this compound. You are subjected to community service in the mean time. Do you agree consulate?''
There are murmurs and soon they all agree.
''This is to take action as soon as our session is finished.'' Darryl entwines his fingers on the table. ''You have to excuse Nicole, she does not appreciate your unreliabillity especially when you let her daughter down.''
''I know sir and i accept my jurisdicition.''
''Very well then.'' Darryl stands up and tugs his coat. ''Dismissed.''

Hilda is kept in the infirmary and she is recovering from her trauma. I remember how Brit was. She reacted just as Hilda did. I visit her to ask how she is. She didn't look at all okay. She is paler than ever and her eyes keep darting around the room. she could not look at me straight and her hands tremble badly. She has a permanent mark of fear etched into her face and it is all my fault. I was desperate and angry and depressed and guilty.
''They found an exit.'' She stutters.
''what?'' I ask
Hilda bites her lip to keep it from trembling. ''They found an exit.''
