“Oh so you must be Ellen!” said a lady who seemed to be in her late forties wearing a flowery dress and carrying a shopping bag on her right arm.”
“I don’t believe we’ve met before, however your mother has told me a lot about you!” said the lady smiling.
“Is that so…” said Ellen while furrowing her brows.
“My name is Miranda I will be taking care of you for the next two years.”
“Anyhow you’re early I thought you were travelling with your friend?” said Miranda while looking around the bus stop.
“Ah yeah… her apartment was about two stops back so she stepped out earlier.” Said Ellen looking back at the bus that was now leaving.
“Ok then shall we go?” said Miranda looking Ellen in the eyes.
“yeah sure.” Said Ellen with a nod.
Ellen’s parents had decided she would follow her last two years of high school in the Big City. Her father had gone to an all-boys school in Central City when he was a teen and he had really enjoyed his high school years at CC High.
When the school had officially announced at the beginning of the year they were going to become a co-ed school. Ellen’s father had enthusiastically convinced Ellen’s mother to let Ellen go to the now co-ed school. Ellen who had lived all her life in West Rock was thrilled at the idea of living her life in a new place.
Ellen’s mother had an old childhood friend who owned a café in CC and the lady had announced she was renting out rooms to students. Ellen’s mother had gotten in contact with her childhood friend and arranged housing for Ellen.
Anja on the other hand simply told her parents she was going to live In Central City and requested a certain sum of money. Anja’s parents were always rather laid back when it came to Anja and her demands. Anja and Ellen left West Rock one week before their new school year in CC would start.
The bus had arrived in Central City after around eight hours of driving and a few petrol stops. Even from an hour away the immensely high sky scrapers of Central City weren’t hard to miss. It almost seemed like the whole city had been made by one and the same architect.
All the building seemed to have been made by the same grey, dark grey and black materials. There was also an extremely large amount of glass used when the city was created. Although the buildings all seemed to have been made by the same materials, every building was unique and special in its own way.
Miranda and Ellen took the tram to the café. On the way there Miranda made a proposal to Ellen.
“Ellen if you’re free every once in a while and wish to earn some spare change.”
“You can work for me in my café when you have the time.”
“All you have to do is note down the customers’ orders and serve the food and drinks.”
Ellen considered the proposal, and then replied.
“That sounds quite nice thanks for the offer!” said Ellen with a slow nod.
Ellen wasn’t too sure if she was going to take up the job just yet. However once the first few weeks of school had settled, taking on a part time job didn’t seem all that bad of a prospect.”
Miranda looked quite satisfied with Ellen’s response.
They sat in relative silence until they arrived at their destination: The Sunnyside Café.
The Sunnyside café was located at a large intersection. The café had the same dark colored exterior as the other buildings. However the café did have large windows which made it a little more welcoming. Peering through the window of the café Ellen could see several round wooden tables which were clothed with a fine white cloth. It was then she saw a shadow that quickly moved towards the door of the café.
“Ting Ting” the sound of the café door opening.
“It took you long enough!” said a guy who looked to be around Ellen’s age he had dark brown hair and quite baggy clothes.
With a swing the guy shut the door behind him and without another word he walked away.
“That reminds me I didn’t tell you.” said Miranda with a mumble.
“That young man will also be staying here at the café.” said Miranda slightly annoyed
“Now let’s go inside!”
Miranda opened the door of the café and after passing through held it open for Ellen.
“Welcome to Sunny Side Café!” said Miranda with a fake smile on her face.
“It looks really nice!” said Ellen out of curtesy.
“Well then shall I show you to your room? I have customers to attend to.” said Miranda still annoyed.
Without waiting for an answer Miranda walked across the dining room, there seemed to be several customers seated at the tables. Ellen assumed the rude guy was filling in for Miranda and had left without prior notice. Miranda passed through the back doors into the kitchen. The kitchen was quite spacious with a large steel table top in the center.
Miranda turned left, trotted through the kitchen and up the narrow stairs. Ellen followed Miranda up the stairs, into a carpeted hallway. There were three doors Miranda entered the first room.
“This will be your new room starting from today.”
“The bed is already made I’ve placed you’re things over there.” Miranda pointed at the wall where several boxes were piled up on each other.

“Now please excuse me” said Miranda with another fake smile as she turned for the door.
Miranda left the room and walked down the stairs.
Miranda was in a bad mood since the rude guy had bailed out on her.
Ellen closed the door and pushed her suitcase against the wall. Ellen’s room had plain white walls and at the far end of the room there was a large window. Her bed which was under the window had a light blue cover sheet. There was also a desk, bookshelf and clothing cabinet in the room.
The room was quite furnished but there was still enough space if she ever wanted to add some furniture in the future. For the rest of the afternoon Ellen unpacked her things until she was called down for dinner.
The café closed every day at seven. Miranda had prepared dinner and served Ellen her food. They ate in silence however it seemed Miranda had brightened up a little bit. After dinner Ellen thanked Miranda for the food and entered her room.
Ellen placed her laptop on the desk and switched it on. As soon as she managed to connect to the internet she searched the key words Last Game. She scrolled through the sites until she came across a forum that had caught her eye. It was about the character and class creations of Last Game.
Although most of the information was speculation, she came across another link that brought her to the official site of Last Game. The producers of Last Game had decided to give away slightly more information, concerning the character creation. What she read shocked her.
"To all future players of LG we have decided to leak information concerning character creation. We initially wanted to keep the character creation a secret, however after considering the shock it might bring to some players we have decided to give away the information one week pre- release."
"The appearance of your character and class will be determined upon entering the game. However the creation of your character will not be random. As all of you know upon using VR gear a player needs to register himself in the global database. All game time and progress has been recorded into your own specific global profile. Upon logging into Last Game for the first time the system will go through all recorded game progress and create a character as much befitting to your actual personality. We assure you that not a single character will be made unbefitting…"
The article continued explaining further inquiries on the topic. After reading the entire article, Ellen turned off her laptop and lay down on her bed. Ellen was first only curious now she had to play the game, it was driving her insane.
There was one week left till release and tough luck that also turned out to be the Monday she would be going to school. With a sigh she lifted herself of her bed. Before sleeping she wanted to brush her teeth and put on her pajama. Her pajama consisted out of a spaghetti stringed tank top and jogging pants.
On her way to the bathroom she passed another door, Ellen guessed that was where the rude guy was staying. She only just realized she was sleeping on the same floor with another guy. Miranda’s quarters were on the bottom floor next to the kitchen. Ellen felt slightly uneasy but soon calmed down when she realized he’d left hours ago.
Ellen entered the bathroom but didn’t deem it necessary to close the door behind her. The bathroom was rather clean it had a tub, a shower and next to the door stood the toilet. She headed towards the tap, above the tap hung a rectangular shaped mirror.
Ellen was about to brush her teeth, when she noticed a blue toothbrush lying next to the tap. Ellen’s toothbrush also happened to be blue, but she wasn’t planning on leaving it in the bathroom anyways. Ellen was brushing her teeth when she heard somebody come up the stairs. She started to panic, she felt like a ten year old, freaking out just because the guy who lived here was coming up the stairs.
She turned on the tap to clean off her toothbrush. When her brush was clean she turned off the tap and looked up in the mirror. That’s when she noticed a guy with messy dark brown hair and foggy blue eyes, leaning against the door opening crossing his arms nonchalantly.
“Hey what are you doing in my bathroom?” said the rude guy while staring at Ellen
Ellen could feel his piercing eyes, though she didn’t dare make eye contact.
“I’m… I’ll be staying in the room next door till I finish high school.” Ellen said while looking away.
It took Ellen several seconds to gather the strength to look at him, she wasn’t afraid of him she was just really awkward when talking to guys.
She then noticed he was quite good looking, though his hair was a real bird nest.
The boy replied while looking away.
“I’ll be damned if we end up in the same class.”
And with that he left, Ellen waited till she heard his door close before she left the bathroom.
She hated herself when she acted all flustered around guys. She could fight a dragon without a hint of fear, but when it came to men she was a total dolt.
Ellen walked back down the hall and closed the door behind her. That’s when she noticed the door didn’t have a lock.
