Camedyr after sitting down instead of saying something reached down to his side to the floor.
"This is for you."
He placed a bag in the middle of the table. Aleyn having no clue what was inside took a look and was stunned.
The whole bag was filled with gold coins.
"What the? How much is in there?" She asked.
"Should be around 450 gold if the shopkeeper said the truth."
Aleyn was in shock.
"Why?"
"Your hammers sold girl. They went quite fast in fact, people sure have eye for quality. Sort of scary" he calmly claimed.
"Well obviously something sold, why am I suddenly rich is what I'm wondering?"
"People make offers, we tell them a counter offer. It's nothing special, is it that hard to accept your hammers sold for a large amount of money?"
"Yes, yes it is." She said with a sigh as she build a small coin tower.
"Well, not my issue. You gonna retire? Its not enough to build a castle but you could live your life happily without ever worrying about anything other than theft with this amount." Camedyr asked.
"Hell no, this is all going in to my equipment." She wasn't screwing around.
Camedyr gave a hearty laugh.
""I want to improve myself." That's you all right."
"Wha?" she didn't get what he meant.
"Aww come now. You don't remember what you told Cybil when he asked you why do you do what you do?"
Aleyn took a moment to go back to that little town in her head. She had indeed said something like that when Cybil asked her.
"You know how much strength it takes to destroy those hammers on my anvil? You're quite terrifying for a little dwarf girl I can tell you that much. If you really want to become an adventurer you almost there." Camedyr said and smiled.
"And what's left?" She smiled and asked.
"Rank one." he said bluntly.
Aleyn looked him straight in the eyes, he was giving a very serious air around him.
"And why is that?"
"Girl you've been working with metals, you got strength and technique."
He paused.
"But the next ranks work with magic. You know how old I am? Who am I kidding of course you don't and you don't care. "
Aleyn had nothing to say to that so she nodded.
"Lets just say I've been out there exploring the world trying to find ways to improve my arts and to accomplish my goal to craft legendary items. If you pass the rank one exam, you will be ready for adventuring and more. I can guarantee you that."
She was enjoying blacksmithing, but exploring Land of Irith was indeed her ultimate goal. Cybil had more than gotten her addicted to blacksmithing and Camedyr was just showing her more ways that made it interesting which had side tracked her. It wasn't a bad thing though, her enjoyment was the main concern in everything anyway.
"I will be going for rank one, don't worry about that. I'll even say I'm probably going to reach it in a month."
"Pffft. I'll remind you about that claim when you're still a rank two." Camedy didn't seem to agree with her estimation.
"Anyway. I'm proceeding with my project. I need your supplier to see what they have."
Camedyr thought for a moment.
"Yeh you can have her. You got a map on ya ?
Aleyn took her map out of her backpack and rolled it on the table.
"Her shop should be around riiiight... there."
Camedyr pointed towards the north side of the middle city.
"Her shops a typical alchemy shop, she occasionally sends me some bars of high quality. No real clue how she gets them, probably transmutes them herself. Not my problem." Camedyr said care freely.
"She got a name?"
"Oh ye right. She's called Asha. Shouldn't be hard to find."
Camedyr leaned back in his chair and took a look at the workshop from his window.
"The hell is that idiot doing? Sorry I need to go down there, one of the idiots is being an idiot." he stood up and took quick strides.
"Yeh it's alright, I don't have anything else to talk about either." she said while stuffing the money bag in her backpack.
Aleyn looked around the middle of the city near the arena since Camedyr had pointed towards that area. Not having any luck she went a bit further north and noticed a house with a billboard which had the picture of a flask on it.
"That's an alchemist shop surely." she thought to herself and entered.
Inside the store was full of shelves filled with different ingredients, ranging from flowers to rocks. There were also some books on the shelves, but she wasn't here to look at any of it. Her goal was to have a chat with Asha. She went to the empty counter at the back and tapped on the table with some strength.
"Comiing." A young voice rang from upstairs.
A woman in her twenties came to the counter.
"What do you need?"
"Are you Asha?" Aleyn asked.
"Yes that's me."
The woman in front of Aleyn was about two heads taller than her, had very plump facial features and long straight red hair which reached her waist.
Aleyn dug in to her backpack and threw the bag full of money on the counter.
"Camedyr told me you provide him with precious metal. I want to see what you got."
Asha took a peak inside the bag and gave an impressed expression.
"Everything I got is upstairs. You can have a look. Take that bag with you though."
They climbed the stairs, at the opposite side of the stairs there was a single door. Asha opened the door and let Aleyn in. Behind the door were four stands filled with bars of different colours. Aleyn went to have a look at each of them and was pleasantly surprised.
Each stand held one certain metal. The first one held a blue ish metal, it very closely resembled what Camedyr's anvil was made of.
"Is this hardened adamantite?" Aleyn asked to confirm.
"No, just normal adamantite. 300 gold per bar if you're interested."
She quickly put the bar down. She barely had enough money to make a adamantite butter knife.
"Ugh.No I'm looking for quantity at the moment from these."
She definitely wanted to have the best material, but it was very unlikely that she wouldn't have to learn to work with the material before actually making her gear so she needed more than a few bars. In the end if she still had too much she could just sell em to Camedyr, he probably would happily accept any bars.
"Ah, then you need to look at the back right one. Hardened Mithrils the cheapest I got in this room. 20 Gold per bar." she claimed.
She moved to the back right stand. It was filled with clear green bar's that reflected everything like a mirror.
"I got 400 gold to spend, you have enough?"
"Definitely should. Do we have a deal?" Asha asked with an absent smile.
"Deal. I expect you're here for a while? I'm gonna carry them all to Camedyrs today." Aleyn stated
The narrative has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.
"I'll be here for the whole day, but really. Shouldn't you hire some help?"
"Naah I'll be alright trust me. Just keep the door open when I'm moving."
Aleyn took out 50 coins from the bag and gave it to Asha.
"Want me to wait while you count?"
"I have trust in Camedyr's acquaintances. If I do find that you didn't pay me properly I'll get Camedyr to give you a nudge." She emphasized the nudge very clearly. Definitely a threat.
Aleyn could fit around six bars in to her backpack, but at that point the seams of it started to scream. She took out three bars and decided to make more trips, her other option would have been to carry some in her hands but that would attract anyone who knew what Hardened Mithril looked like.
It took her half of the day to carry everything to Camedyr's shop and at the end she was gasping for air while her back was yelling in pain.
Camedyr yelled as he took a look at the pile of green bars in his office
"You bought 20 bars of hardened Mithril? I thought you were making a hammer not a gate!"
Aleyn was lying on the floor of Camedyrs office sweating heavily and gasping for air.
"I need some bars to learn how to work with the material and with any extras I can upgrade my armor."
"Over achiever." Camedyr said bluntly.
"Rude man." She said with a joking tone as she swiped her face with her sleeve.
"There's still plenty of time left for today. You gonna take a break or are you gonna let the fatigue kill you?" Camedyr asked in a sarcastic manner.
Aleyn frowned at him, but couldn't really disagree. If she started working right now she would not get much done.
"Know a place with good food?"
"Oh do I! Broken horn a few buildings west has magnificent cooking." Camedyr answered, obviously very happy with broken horns service.
Aleyns breathing had calmed down and she could sit up straight.
"Wanna join me. I'll treat ya."
"You have no idea how much I would love to. Sadly I need to keep an eye on these guys right now. Delicate period." Camedyr sighed and looked out of the window.
"Well, enjoy I'll go have something."
She left the bars in Camedyrs office and headed west, searching for the famous broken horn.
The place wasn't too hard to find. It looked to be a small restaurant which had a few tables outside of it.
She strode in reaching for a few gold coins from her coin purse. Even though the place was small their menu was quite huge, it was quite impressive. She ordered fish stew, potatoes with a beef steak and a jug of freshly squeezed berry juice and went to sit outside.
It took some time to get her order but when it came it looked to be very worth the wait as the servings were huge. She took turns in eating from the plate and the bowl of stew and as per Camedyrs built up expectations, they were definitely worth the money. Slowly eating and enjoying her meal she took some time to look at the people passing by, everyone was busy going about their day.
While she was in her own world a person came to her.
"Hey miss. You have a silver coin to spare? I'm slightly lacking for my lunch."
She took a look at the guy. He appeared to be a man in his thirties and was wearing armor fit for battle but no weapon in sight. Abnormally tall and a lot of scars on his face with distinct nord characteristic.
She took a look at her coin pouch and spotted a lone silver coin.
"Yeh, you can have it."
She didn't bother conversing too much as she was more interested in relaxing and having a nice meal.
"Thank you kindly." The man bowed.
"No biggie."
He strode inside and after a few moments strode out and took seat at the opposite side of the outside area.
Aleyn stretched in her seat, bones cracking loudly. She still had plenty of food to go and enough room to fit them. She was about to continue when she was interrupted again. This time by a different crowd.
"Wow girl that looks delicious, you wanna share?"
She didn't even bother to turn around, she knew exactly what this was.
A group of men had gathered around her, it felt like a teenage bullying ring.
"Come on girl share the wealth. We might hurt ya otherwise."
The man who she had given the silver coin was looking at the scene with sharp eyes.
"Is this karma? She gave me money and now in exchange I save her. Not the worst deal."
One of the bullies put a hand on her shoulder and the armored man was just about to stand up and walk over when he witnessed something he wasn't ready for.
The dwarf girl took the guys hand and dislocated it without much effort. She showed no emotion when the man fell on the ground screaming in agony. The group supporting the guy took a hold of him and tried to fix his arm while one of them took the opportunity make the biggest mistake of their day.
One of the bigger guys flipped her table, swinging her plate and bowl on the floor. She looked at the mess for a second, her face went completely blank. The big guy then took her by her collar and lifted her up in the air, the dwarf girl still staring at her ruined food.
At this point the Armored fellow had had enough. Even if she had dislocated the guys hand she was obviously in some sort of a shock. He was about to stand up again as he heard another scream, the big guy was now face down on the floor with his legs in the air. The dwarf girl kicked him in the back making him flip over and out of the restaurant area.
The rest of the group was standing there in shock, not completely sure what had happened. At that point the dwarf girl exploded in anger and started yelling something about paying for her food which made the group disperse and run away. She chased them for a few steps but returned very quickly as they were quick on their feet.
The dwarf girl returned to her seat and flipped her table which was now completely covered in soup. A waiter who had been watching the whole ordeal came from inside of the house to ask her if she was alright but she just asked for a broom and another bowl of fish soup.
The armored man looked in awe as the dwarf girl was swiping the tiles with a broom while waiting for another bowl, sighing heavily.
Aleyn after finishing her soup had taken a breather outside of the city walls as the events at the restaurant had been stressful, she was in a perfect place of relaxation and those guys just had to ruin it. But all she could do was just let it go. It took a bit for her to calm down emotionally but after doing so she returned back to Camedyrs workshop as she still had a little bit of time to try and work with the hardened Mithril.
She spent the rest of the day with two bars and made skinning knives which she could use in the future.
