In the beginning, everything was dark. It wasn’t uncomfortable though. Instead, it was a warm and comforting darkness. One that made you feel secure and safe. A darkness that was so welcoming you wouldn't want to leave it. I however was rudely taken away from the warmth of the darkness when someone shoved their hand in and brought in a ray of light.
I had been peacefully floating as usual when the hand burst through and grabbed me. I was unceremoniously yanked from the darkness and thrown onto a cold hard surface. I screamed in pure horror as a large pink abomination stared back at me.
“Now Madam Alice. You must quickly perform the incantation otherwise we will have to get another one.” A larger pink creature stepped into my view. It spouted out some incomprehensible words towards the smaller pink monster.
The small pink monster responded saying. “Y-yes master Wallace. О, прекрасное создание. Услышь мои молитвы и хорошо ответь на них. Присоединяйтесь ко мне в жизни, полной приключений, чтобы мы прогрессировали вместе. Tame monster!”
The small one made more noises that seemed to have an effect. The light around the room somehow gathered around it and formed into strange symbols. Suddenly the symbols leaped towards me and wrapped around me. Making me float into the air as the large pink thing smiled in joy.
The small one finished its strange noises and all at once the symbols slammed into me. I tried to fight back but was instantly overpowered by the symbol's strength. I fell to the ground and began to spasm as the symbols grew brighter and brighter.
“Master Wallace, is this supposed to happen? The kobold seems to be in pain. Can I do something to help?” I was barely staying awake but could clearly hear the shrieks of the small pink one. “Do not worry madam. Give it a few seconds and the kobold shall be tamed.”
As he said this the light started to dim and I was once again in control of my thoughts. “See madam. Now remember. He will listen to your commands but it still has to be trained. Your father will have to help you with that. It was a pleasure to train and I hope you continue to develop your skills at the academy next year.”With that the light went away and I fell asleep.
I woke up to find myself inside of a small room with a single light. I got up and looked around. The only thing in the room was a large reflective surface. I looked myself up and down and grinned. My scales shined a brilliant ruby red in the torchlight of the room. My snout was straight and had no bumps. My tail was proportional to the rest of my body. I was the perfect Kobold.
Kobolds are strange. All kobolds are born with something called hereditary knowledge. All kobolds know what a kobold is and what it entails the second they are born.
Stolen story; please report.
Kobolds are protectors. From guardian of a dragon's hoard to serving as the first line of defense against heroes in a dungeon.Although most ended up acting similar to goblins. Only those of a pure language had hereditary knowledge. If I understood my situation correctly I was meant to protect the small pink creature. I had searched through my memories and found out that this creature is a human child. I puffed up in pride at the thought of already being given a charge to protect.
After confirming my situation I looked around where I had been placed. I had been placed in a small cage. It appears that my prowess was already being tested. I looked around the room that my prison was located in. It was pink, extremely pink. There was also a large stuffed kobold staring at me. I couldn’t tell if it was real but it was fighting nevertheless.
I cursed whatever sick mind had put me here and got to work. It looked like the cage was held closed by a latch. I quickly flipped it up and kicked the door. It swung open and I pumped my fist in the air in celebration. As I moved out of the prison I heard a small growl from behind me. I turned slowly and saw a monster staring back. I had thought it was some strange toy but it seemed to be a canine.
It was smaller than me but as it visually growled at me I knew it didn’t matter. I didn’t see my charge so I turned and ran. There was no reason to risk my life if it wasn't to protect my charge. Doing so would be wasteful. The fluffy monster sprinted after me and I rolled to the side as it leaped at me. It grazed my shoulder but Thankfully didn't penetrate my scales. I kept running and saw my stuffed comrade staring lamely.
I cursed myself for my softness but ran over to him. I pulled it onto my shoulder and ran for a nearby pane of glass. No kobold deserved to spend its after life being tortured by what must have been a fenrir.
I charged the glass at full speed and slammed into it. I lightly bounced off falling towards the vicious beast. I stood up and faced it as I realized I had backed myself into a corner. I put the stuffed comrade behind me and readied myself for a fight that would be talked about for generations.
Just as the deadly duel was about to begin my charge burst into the room. She looked in horror at the fight and all the various toys thrown through the room. She started blabbering in the strange pink thing language.
The beast seemed to have calmed down when the pink thing entered the chamber. I was about to continue the glorious duel when the pink one scooped me into its arms.
I screamed in terror but unfortunately the pink one wouldn’t let go. I screeched my protest as the pink thing began to squeeze. After a bit more struggling I realized my charge meant to test me. She had seen me fail to defeat the beast and wanted to make sure I was capable of protecting her.
I however was simply not up to the task. After what must have been an eternity of torture she lowered me to the floor. After that she gestured for me to follow her. I kicked the ground as I sullenly walked beside her. I walked slowly behind as we exited the structure I had been born in.
As we walked outside the sun slammed into me like a rock. Thankfully the initial pain passed and was replaced by a dull sense of weakness. I followed my charge toward a small farm with strange colorful plants. She turned to me and started speaking her usual gibberish. “Alright, kobold. You made a mess inside so maybe you'll like being outside better. This is my personal flower garden! I have been nurturing this for years!”
My charge looked proud as she gestured at the farm. She picked up a small metal weapon and handed it to me. I stared at the sleek beautiful figure for what felt like an eternity. The sun kissed metal glinted in the noon day sun as moisture ran down it's perfectly curved handle.
I stared in awe as the item of such beauty was handed to me. A weapon of pure power and grace. The pink one turned to me and for the first time I understood a word. “Shovel! That's a shovel. I use it to garden. You can play with it for a bit.” I stared at the gorgeous weapon for a second before deciding. There was a god in this world. And it was the shovel.
