kit chapter2.2 battle

This is my first fight scene Ive ever written so don't be afraid to make suggestions please. I made it a short chapter by itself instead of including it in the last chapter so a can get specific feed back on this portion of writing (the fight).

Thankyou!

================================================================================

I’m still talking to Royells when I look onto the grasslands on the side and see movement. Watching the grass wave I see something top out on a small rise in the grass. Shadow wolfs! I’ve only seen them from a distance and only a few at a time as the kit guard keeps them away from the village. But out here they run wild.

Shadow wolfs will only attack groups smaller and weaker than themselves. Another reason they never attack the village, only an idiot attacks a village of magicians. Their backs are just shorter than the grass allowing them to hide anywhere in the planes.

The only notice you get of an attack is what I’m seeing right now. The grass bends in a moving V that approaches you directly where the wolf pushes it out of its way. One V is almost right on me I pull out my hatchet and step my left foot back into a small crouch readying myself to defend.

All of the sudden I see a mouth gaping at me from the grass large teeth approaching my face! 'This is nothing like training with dad' I think to myself, 'this is terrifying' as the wolf lunges I dodge its teeth by bending backwards and sliding/spinning to my left my tail extending out to help keep balance. Looking over my shoulder I see the wolf changing direction quickly for another pass.

This time I ready my axe keeping the axe head even with my eyes ready to swing down or across to block its attack. It springs at me again! I swing my axe at its head but I’m too slow leading the axe to connect into its neck the blade running from just past its jaw and into the top of the breast bone.

Luckily the mana coating allows the blade to slide out of the cut freely and the wolf starts to bleed out. All of the sudden I feel a pain on my ankle 'he bit me', I think looking down at the wolf that had sneak attacked me while I wasn’t looking.

The wolf on my ankle swings his head back and forth trying to knock my off balance and off my feet to where I will be easier prey, and with a final tug I fall on my back looking as that dang wolf approaches on my off hand, the one that’s not holding anything. To finish me off. Its lunging at me so I do the only thing I can I cast my limited magic at it. “Feeraegh!” I say and a small fire is emitted from my hands burning the wolf and lighting a small portion of its fur on fire. That’s the last thing I see before I passed out from exhaustion, my thoughts circling 'I knew I didn’t have enough mana to do that and stay awake'.
