Ricard leads Glyn’s group into the caverns as they gather around a large stone table. The other older men gather around Ricard as Glyn notices a map of the island spread out over the table. He makes note of the parts of the map that’re circled and marked as he studies the map.
“I see. I think I have a rough idea about what’s going on with this place under Fenwick.” Glyn says with a smirk on his face.
“Oh yeah what’ve you figured out smart guy?” Ricard asks.
Glyn points at a circled spot on the map. “This is where Fenwick is staying am I correct?”
“Yeah.”
“What’s the situation there.”
Ricard pauses for a moment then turns towards the older men. Glaring at him they walk forward nervously.
“Fenwick’s built a manor there for himself and his forces. He’s used a magical spell to make a barrier to keep himself and the others entrapped.” The man explains.
Glyn pauses. “Then we can’t make a proper offensive until we can find a way around this barrier.”
Tisha sighs. “Well, we only have so much time before he realizes we’re here.”
“Right. At best we may only have a day or two before he can overwhelm us.”
“A day!?” Mila yells out looking around in a panic. “But Miller and the others they….”
“This plan was always a gamble. Miller gave the go ahead and it was the only way for us to get here quickly before Miller could overwhelm us. But because of it we’ve separated his forces.”
“His Pawns and Knights are on Jubert Island and we’ve taken one of his Bishops. We know the Queen is against him and that leaves only two Rooks and another Bishop to deal with.” Zanrit explains. “Our odds are better than they were before, but if we’re going to end this soon, we’re still taking on a gamble.”
Glyn smirks. “That’s where these guys come in!” Glyn yells out.
“Us!?” Ricard scrams.
“Come on. Your rebels right, you guys might have some kind of crazy plans or some scouting am I right? Besides you guys need to keep watch over our unconscious Bishop, she’ll be up in a few hours and we’ll need to deal with her, without killing her.”
They all glance at each other before turning away as Glyn looks to them cautiously.
“We’re sorry but….”
“Their scared.” Ricard says. “Having that asshole show up everyone’s cautious of outsiders even if they are from another island.”
“That’s fair. But if we don’t work together to bring that asshole down soon, we’re all dead. The moment he figures out we’re here he’ll sweep the island with everything he’s got until he finds us.” Glyn stares at Ricard who looks into his eyes.
This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road. If you spot it on Amazon, please report it.
Ricard takes a breath. “Fine.”
“Ricard!” One man yells out.
“Shut up old man! This sitting around isn’t good for any of us. The sooner we deal with the mines the sooner we can rescue everyone stuck in the mines.”
“If you’re unwilling to tell then I hope your fine with letting your home stay this same way. You can’t do much if anything on your own, if you could you would’ve.” Glyn says.
Tisha walks forward staring down the older man. “Hey listen. A friend of mine must’ve come here before and helped you guys, right? Well, I’m here to finish what he started because that bastard Fenwick killed him.”
He pauses his tail tucking between his legs. “Our most able-bodied and some others were dragged off to the mines to farm for Mythril. There are two Rooks down there watching over them as we speak.”
“Mythril. Did you just say Mythri!?”
“Yes. A vein of it was found sometime ago and we’ve been carefully mining for it in small spurts. But Fenwick is making us mine more and faster than ever before.”
Glyn smiles unable to hold himself back. “Mythril. Of course, he’d be going crazy for Mythril. But that doesn’t…. wait if he’s trying to expedite the refining process then……”
Everyone looks to him as he paces around the cavern with Tisha leaping in front of him.
“Hey you’re running your mouth and not finishing.” Tisha says.
Glyn stops and looks at the group. “Sorry. I was thinking.”
“Okay what’s on your mind?”
“The Mythril. Mythril itself can be refined to be a perfect magical instrument or something that repels magic. However, the process it time consuming and takes quite a lot of effort. But there are faster ways to get it done however as a side affect it leaks miasma out into the air polluting the area.”
“And that’s what’s happening here?”
“If we keep letting him use the Mythril we’ll be in for a disadvantage on top of that we have two Rooks to deal with down there.”
“So, poison and a powerful enemy quite the pain to deal wish, isn’t it? But we’re headed straight down there, aren’t we?”
Glyn nods. “Obviously. We can claim the mines and it’s possible those Rooks might know how to get past Fenwick’s barrier.”
“So that’s the plan?” Tisha asks.
“Yeah. But we might need a guide….”
Ricard steps forward. “Fine I’ll go.”
“Ricard!”
“If we can help our people then I’ll do what I can to help these guys. Besides we can’t do anything about the mines, at the very least they can. And that Lady Pepper you’ve put your hopes in brought them here anyway!” Ricard yells out.
Glyn smirks. “How about this for a deal. We’ll take care of the Rooks and we’ll collapse the mines and after that then you can make your decisions. But I’ll leave you with this, he’ll still have another Bishop and he can take control over that Queen of his at any moment.”
“We’ll consider your offer. But only if you can collapse the mine and rescue all of our people trapped down there.” The old man says.
Glyn nods. “That was always part of the plan.”
As the group leaves the caverns Glyn turns to Mila who lowers her head as she mumbles to herself.
“Hey Mila what’s wrong?” Glyn asks.
“I can’t figure out what to do. I’ve been trying to help, but I can’t think of anything to do.” Mila says.
Glyn shakes his head. “I know your worried about your brother and the others, trust me I am to. We’ll get this done and then we’ll go back to Jubert Island to make sure their fine.”
“I know Miller can take care of himself and then some but….”
“I’m going to wrap this up as soon as possible. And make sure no one dies. Trust me.”
She nods and smiles. “Of course! I always trust you.”
“I wouldn’t. He may have a brain but he’s still an idiot most of the time. Trying to rush a battle in a day or two is just idiotic.” Tisha says.
“Do you have any other ideas?”
Tisha pauses. “No. I admit your right there’s nothing else we can do. But I don’t have to like it.”
“I don’t like it either. But it’s what we’ve got to do.” The group exits the cavern and stares off into the distance. “Everyone, let’s get ready for a fight.”
