“DAMMIT! WHY…WHY COULDN’T YOU LET ME CONTINUE HATING YOU…WHY DID YOU DO SOMETHING SO STUPID…DAMMIT IT ELIZE WHY EVEN IN THE END MUST YOU TOY AROUND WITH ME?!?!”
Even though he was sent back as he had wished for, his memories had all remained with him. He clearly remembered everything that had happened in the 25 years he had spent in “Kings Rite”, especially his final moments with Elize. He subconsciously reached out and traced his lips which still held the lingering warmth of her kiss.
*BANG!*
“Dammit Elize why?”
He swore in a low voice as he struck the wall of the building beside him.
Her final kiss…it was more than an innocent kiss, she had given him her blessing, her heart, her very soul, something any higher order creature could do to a lower order creature, but the gods had made it a skin for an angel to give their blessing to a human. They would not stop the angel from doing so, but the blessings were in direct correlation with the angel’s soul. By giving away her blessing, she gave away her soul and nothing not even a higher order creature can survive without their soul.
“Why…why would you sacrifice everything in the end…now what am I supposed to do with all this hate You took it all from me only to give me everything…just what the hell did you want from me?”
Eian mumbled to himself with vacant eyes as he hung his head against the wall trying to sort out his chaotic emotions.
“Ummm excuse me sir…are you alright?”
A nervous voice suddenly called out bring Eian out of his stupor. Finally, he remembered his surroundings, it was the day of the summons, right now he was a 19-year-old university freshmen walking down the crowded downtown streets of B city.
As he turned around he saw the person talking to him, it was a young man, tall and handsome. He wore the uniform of a solider, he stood straight and the very way he carried himself even without the uniform one can tell that he was solider. Eian had seen many that were part of one army or another in “Kings Rite” majority of them all carried the same air around them and it was no different for this young man in front of him.
Behind the young solider there was a shy teenage girl hiding herself like a scared cat, she was pretty and seeing her hide herself behind the solider made for an adorable sight for most people, however, Eian was not most people and seeing her he automatically felt a sense of familiarity towards her. He knew that it was more than likely that since she was in this area, she would most likely be summoned to “Kings Rite” where he knew her from, but looking into her lavender eyes he could not quite remember who exactly she was.
Seeing Eian turn his vision towards her she shrieked further trying her best to hide behind the young solider. Noticing Eian looking at the young teenage girl the solider furrowed his brows as he frowned towards Eian and placed his hand on the girl’s arm pushing her further behind him taking a clear defensive stand.
“Brother and sister?”
Eian thought to himself. Noticing that the two carried similar facial traits as well as the same platinum blonde hair and lavender colored eyes he realized it was more than likely they were brother and sister.
“I’m fine…”
Finally, Eian opened his mouth and spoke to the young solider before walking past him and casting one final glance towards the young teenage girl.
As Eian walked past the two he noticed there were a lot more people gathered than the siblings, they all moved aside and gave Eian a large breath of space to walk by them, but as he did he could hear their varying whispers, wondering if he had some mental issue, a drug addict or a drunk. Eian was not bothered by their comments, of course they would think something along those lines if a person suddenly just randomly started screaming in the middle of the city for no apparent reason, he could not blame him nor did he have enough energy to waste on such things, instead he offered them a silent prayer of good luck as he kept walking further down the street eventually disappearing into the sea of bodies.
Waves of memories silently assaulted him as he walked through the streets, he grew up in an orphanage, a miserable place that he had once wished he could burn to the ground. He struggled and worked hard to get away from that hellish place and eventually he got his chance when he was accepted into his university. He had just started his classes not two months ago and everything was going smoothly. As he had some talent in business, his economy classes were not too difficult for him and eventually he grew somewhat bored with his classes, but nonetheless he diligently showed up for every class that he had and as soon as his classes ended he would go to his part-time job at a shipping company. After his shift ended he would return home, finish off whatever school work or project he had and go to sleep.
It was a boring life but a life that he had grown to miss over the years, in fact now that he had returned he could not even remember what it was he had found so boring about it, was this life not better than having to fight daily for his very survival.
*sigh*
He could only sigh to himself as he walked forward.
Stolen from Royal Road, this story should be reported if encountered on Amazon.
Eventually he came across an empty park, it was surrounded by well-maintained greenery, there were varying colors of flower beds lying all around the park creating a unique pattern. It was a delicate and serene sight; a calm gentle breeze blew by sending the flowery scents flying around. A beautiful scene in the midst of a chaotic and busy city. Eian couldn’t help but lose himself in the scene before him. Before he would never pay attention to something like this, but now seeing it before him he couldn’t help but think, just how many things did he miss in his previous life that he will never get again?
Loosing himself in his thoughts he walked towards a park bench and sat down still looking at the surrounding flowers. It was the first time in a very long time that he could sit down and release his guard. No fear of something trying to take his life when he was not paying attention, there was no constant struggle for survival, nor a need to check and improve on every skill he had learned, no weapons to maintain, no monsters to hunt to grow stronger, no quests, raids, dungeons or faction wars. All there was right now was just him and the surrounding flowers.
He quietly lowered his head and closed his eyes and allowed himself to drift into a peaceful slumber.
Or, he would have liked it to have been peaceful, however, he was haunted by nightmares, the hellish creatures he desperately struggled against, the people whose blood had strained his hands until the rivers were dyed red from him trying to cleanse himself from their blood. The woman whom smiled even as he drove his sword through her chest, the angel that he hated only to receive her love and life in the end. Each came to him and assaulted him one after another, their faces of love and terror, hate and murder forever etched into his very soul.
He screamed and fought, cried and laughed, his body broke, his mind destroyed, his soul forever tainted in sin, he could do nothing but watch his nightmares as if he was looking through the eyes of a stranger.
“Ah!”
Jolted awake by his nightmares, a low scream came out as he jumped off the bench and instinctively tried to reach for his sword, but his hand grasped nothing but the air beside him which had initially caused him to panic, but he slowly started to remember he was currently not in “king’s Rite”. Sitting back down he couldn’t he couldn’t help but recall his nightmare, especially the final image of the angel that choose death as a final means to show her love for him. There were far too many mixed emotions that he could not fully explain. He had long thought he had thrown away every emotion for her expect for the hate he felt, but now he couldn’t shake her image from his mind, her indifferent expression, her face covered in tears, her final smile. Every image causing his heart to shake.
*sigh*
He sighed deeply as he covered his face with his hands.
When he did the first thing that came to his mind was how soft they were, they were not callused from swinging a weapon around each and daily, the were not scared from the countless battles and hunts he had experience. This world was by far too different from the one he had lived in and would once again live in.
“Yes…yes, tell him I’ll be back soon, yes that should be fine and move my 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. No…”
Hearing the voice Eian moved his hands from his face and looked up to see a woman with fiery red hair neatly tied in a bun, wearing a business suit and talking on her cellphone walk by.
His attention was quickly drawn to the cellphone; it was something that he had completely forgotten existed.
“Hmm”
Eian thought to himself for a moment before reaching inside his leather jacket’s pocket and quickly pulling out his old cellphone. It was not a newer model like the business lady’s, it was a model from a couple years ago, but because Eian had always been somewhat of a loner he did not require it to have much function other than making calls when he needed too, checking his e-mails and playing music as he traveled on the bus or train.
Swiping his finger across the screen, the lock screen switched to the password screen. He paused for a moment trying to recall his password, but then a self-ridiculing smile appeared on his face, his password was quiet simple, it was (1,2,4,3), he couldn’t help but laugh at himself. Thinking of his phone, the password to his phone and even his current clothing, everything was simple, the simplicity of it all was a reflection of him as a person, or rather a reflection of the person he once was.
“Ah…it’s almost time”
He said in a low voice as he saw the time on his phone.
He once again reached inside his pocket and pulled out the headphones for his phone before plugging it into his phone and placing the ear buds into his ear. It was awhile since he listened to music from this world and he might never have the chance to listen to it ever again.
He found the song he wished to listen to and pressed the play button on his phone.
“I keep a close watch on this heart of mine
I keep my eyes wide open all the time
I keep the ends out for the tie that binds
Because you're mine, I walk the line”
The song played as he closed his eyes and sung along with it.
“I find it very, very easy to be true
I find myself alone when each day is through
Yes, I'll admit that I'm a fool for you
Because you're mine, I walk the line”
A light slowly appeared in the sky and started to gradually grow brighter, even with his eyes closed the brightness of the light shun through to his eyes.
“As sure as night is dark and day is light
I keep you on my mind both day and night
And happiness I've known proves that it's right
Because you're mine, I walk the line”
He could hear it, even with the music playing in his ears, the screams of everyone in the city, they were terrified and confused, the could not understand what the light was or what was happening to them.
“You've got a way to keep me on your side
You give me cause for love that I can't hide
For you I know I'd even try to turn the tide
Because you're mine, I walk the line”
“Brothers, my heart’s desire and prayer to God for the Israelites is that they may be saved. For I can testify about them that they are zealous for God, but their zeal is not based on knowledge.”
Eian silently prayed for everyone for unlike everyone he knew the faith that was about to befall them, a faith that could be said a lot crueler than if they were to die now.
“I keep a close watch on this heart of mine
I keep my eyes wide open all the time
I keep the ends out for the tie that binds
Because you're mine, I walk the li…”
The final verse of the song played but could not finish before the blindingly bright light disappeared and with it the music stopped playing. It was quiet, Eian slowly opened his eyes and his mouth. An indifferent voice sounded out at the same time that Eian opened his mouth to speak.
[Welcome to “King’s Rite”]
“Welcome to “King’s Rite””
They both said simultaneously.
