Chapter 12: Angelica

Chapter 12: Angelica

Rick followed the river that flowed south through the vast green grassland. When he used his [Far Sight] skill to look out from the river across the grassland, he saw flat land for miles. The flat land looked like a great place to build and farm.

After walking a few miles he reached the end of the river that empties into the ocean surrounding the island. Looking out across the bay, inhaling the salty smell blowing off the water, he noticed white cliffs out on the Peninsula.

Rick began to head over to investigate the rock thinking that it may be marble but was hard to tell from a distance. When he approached the white rock he could tell it wasn't marble it looked like porous white slate but the rock wasn't flaky like slate.

Placing his hand on it, he sent his mana into the white rock and used his [Identify] skill.

Limestone

A sedimentary rock, containing marine organisms skeletal remains such as coral, Foraminifera, and molluscs. It can be used to manufacture quicklime, mortar, and cement. limestone is also used as a soil conditioner to neutralize acidic soils and is added to livestock feed to boost calcium levels.

This is a good find and there is plenty of it here this cliff must be thirty feet high and over a mile long. If I can make mortar and cement it would make the stonework so much stronger.

I remember from my studies that limestone use to be used to build with, even in the fifties they used it to accent some of the newer skyscrapers.

He took out his Pick-axe and cut out a few chunks real quick just to experiment with later.  Once he stored the limestone he traveled across the base of the peninsula to the large bay to the east a couple miles from the cliff.

He surveyed the shoreline and water depth of the bay. When he first saw it on his map he thought it could make a good harbor.

It seems to be deep enough and if we build some docks out off the shore we could bring larger ships right in here to dock then. I like that it is surrounded on both sides by land and that small island near the mouth of the bay also shelters it. It seems protected from storms and easy to defend.

When Rick finished checking the possible harbor location, he turned back north toward a location that he decided to make his first claimed land. On the trek upriver the sun began to set growing dark, using his [Night Sight] he found the location and looked around one more time before deciding to wait until morning to get started here.

I guess I can disconnect for awhile and wait until sunrise here to get started.

Disconnect!

Rick turned his computer on then used the bathroom, and made a sandwich. He sat at his computer eating his sandwich while looking up a few things online. He first checked in on making basic cement and concrete. He read that mixing crushed limestone, clay, shells, and sand into mixed powder and heat it together will give you a cement when you mix it with water. If that cement is mixed with sand and crushed stone it will become cement.

The next few things he looked into were water wheels,  treadmill cranes, Roman road construction and many technologies used in the Medieval Ages. He turned his computer off and laid down for a nap in his bedroom.

When he woke up he laid back down in the [GATE GEAR] and logged back into [Kingdoms Online].

The sun was just starting to peak over the horizon when Rick found himself back in the grasslands along the river.

Rick had found this spot yesterday a bend in the river that gave him an Idea for making a small island in the river.  He examined his mini-map as he thought out where he would dig to make a canal that would separate a chunk of land.

[mini-map of location]

Rick brought out his shovel and started digging a long trench a few feet from the river shore from north to south. He dug it out about 8' feet deep and 15' wide. He figured with the current of the river over time the canal would erode and become wider than he made it so he kept it a reasonable size for now. When he was happy with the canal, he connected it to the south part of the river and then opened the small strip of soil to the north holding back the water from flooding into the canal he just dug out.

[mini-map of location]

Now I have a defensible island in the river to build a small starter home and workshop combo, to work out of while I build the area up.

He opened his inventory and took out one of the trees he cut down and made enough 2"x6"x15' beams, 4"x4"x15' posts, 8"x8"x15' posts, and 1"x6"x15' planks to receive recipes for them.

This recipe will allow you to instantly create a plank (one inch by six inches by fifteen feet long).

That should help me out now to save some time making all these posts and planks individually was starting to become more like work than playing a game.

He now had the recipes out of the way he took out his hammer and nails. After he put the tree he used for lumber back in the inventory he used the recipes to make up a few of each one. Rick grabbed two of the 2"x6"x15' beams stood them up and dropped them across the canal he dug out. He then started sawing off three-foot cuts from the 1"x6"x15' planks and nailed the three-foot cuts to the top of the beams he dropped across the canal to make a small bridge to the island.

With a bridge to the island, he packed up his tools and lumber and walked out onto the island to measure out an area 17'x17' for a square stone tower. With his shovel, he dug the marked area out down 10 feet where he hit the bedrock. Now he needed to buy the stone block from the [Land Management Menu].

I could make a stone quarry up north near the mountain, but then I need to drag it bag and forth miles wasting time. I will just buy it until I buy some laborers I can set up to cut and haul stone blocks. Before I buy stone I need to buy land to unlock the option of buying resources and units. It's finally time to buy land and get started!

Rick stood on the edge of the 17ft wide x 17ft wide x 10ft deep square hole looking down into the soon be the cellar of his tower. He watched as 500 stone blocks spawned on the floor of the cellar in a neat stack of 5x5 blocks a layer of 20 layers.

On the north end of his small island, he used the bricks from the temple wall to make a forge. Using the recipes he made three 8" x 8" x 15' posts he buried two of the posts 2 feet in the ground on each side of the forge. The third post he used long screws to secure it on top the other post running horizontal 8 ft above the forge. Removing a smelting pot and the chain it hangs from, Rick hung it from the post above the forge of frame he just built. He stacked firewood inside it and let it burn until a good coal bed was in the bottom of the forge. He lowered the smelting pot to sit in the heat of the forge and start heating up.

I'm worried about building this tower by just stacking these blocks dry. If I order clay then cook it with crushed limestone and sand I can mix it with water to make cement and use it to mortar these blocks together

You have purchased 500 pounds of clay.

5 gold pieces have been withdrawn from your inventory.

Rick took 200 lbs. of the fresh spawned clay broke it into small pieces and dropped it into the smelting pot, then closed the lid allowing it to cook out the moisture. He then used more of the temple wall bricks laid out tightly together on the ground to make a 5ft x 5ft brick floor as a flat clean work area to crush the limestone and clay on. He scattered the limestone on the bricks covered it with some of his cloth, and used the blacksmith hammer to crush it to powder. With the help of the blacksmith tongs, he removed the hot dry clay and crushed it with the hammer on the bricks with the limestone powder. When the dry clay was also crushed with the limestone he collected them both and sprinkled both clay and limestone powders back into the smelter pot to continue cooking and returned the lid on top of the pot.

After he closed the pot lid, Rick took a walk down to the river shore and dug up sand and picked up clam shells scattered along the water's edge. He added the gathered beach sand to the smelting pot to cook with the limestone and clay. After adding the sand to the smelt pot he started to crush the collected shells to also blend in with the other cement ingredients.

When all the moisture was cooked out he blended the baked chalk like powders together and brought the smelting pot to the river with his inventory to mix water into the pot until it reached a consistency of peanut butter.

Time to get some use out of my masonry skill now that I have cement to work with.

Oh crap, I just remembered I need a mason trowel to spread the cement. Let me see what I have to make do here in my inventory.

Rick combed through his inventory and brought out one of his wider-faced stone chisels to use until he could get his blacksmith area setup and make a few mason trowels for him and his soon to be laborers.

With the smelting pot full of cement in his inventory, he climbed down into the excavated cellar hole.

Down in the square dirt hole, he began laying the stone blocks out across the floor while cementing them together. Half an hour later the floor was laid in flat and the joints fit together tight.

Rick allowing the floor a few minutes to dry climbed out of the cellar hole and moved all the dirt he dug out for it across the bridge with his inventory. He added the cellar dirt to the huge mound of dirt he collected while digging the canal to make his tiny island.

All this dirt will be used for something eventually, for now, I will just leave it here until then, or it gets in the way.

After relocating the dirt he climbed back down into the cellar hole and started stacking and cementing the walls that would be the cellar walls and the foundation that the upper tower would be built on. He worked his way around the stone pile pulling blocks off as he went to eventually finish cementing together all four of the walls.

Now it feels like a room down here, and not a just a dig dirt hole.

Rick hauled the iron smelt pot full of cement back to the river and added a little more water to the thickening cement mix and stored it away in his inventory while the foundation walls mortar joints dried from a dark gray to a light gray.

When the cemented joints finished setting he jumped back into the cellar to continue his work.

I am starting to notice that allot of things in the game seem hmm, sped up? This cement would never dry this quickly in the real world unless it was exposed to extreme heat. I guess it this could be a good and bad thing?

Now I need to run the floor joists across the room to enclose this cellar and finish the first floor.

By counting the stone blocks to measure, every two and a half blocks he would chisel out a (2" wide x 6" high x 4" deep) slot carved into the center of the wall blocks on the east and west sides of the room.

Rick used a recipe to make seven (2" x 6"x 15') floor joist beams and slid them into the wall slots horizontal with the floor. He had previously cut all the joists just long enough to slide them into the back of the carved slots, and then across the room to pull it into the other opposite facing slot.

That worked out well, the beams will sit securely in the blocks this way. I never have to worry about the joists coming unfastened from hangers with this design.

Once he had the floor joists sitting snug inside the chiseled block slots, he made a simple wooden staircase with a small enclosed storage closet underneath it. When he finished the construction of the cellar staircase he walked up to the top stair.

Rick made enough planks to cover the first floor and then cut them down to proper lengths. One by one, he laid the cut planks out and nailed them to the newly fitted joists.

I need to learn how to make natural wood stain later to cover all these raw planks and beams. It would look allot nicer for one and protect it from the elements.

Well, now I have the cellar and wood floor above covering it, I should get my blacksmith area setup so I can start smelting gold.

fufu, it looks like it is finally time to test out the [Demigod's Dialect] and make myself a large "cheater" forge that can run without fuel and a bellows.

I want this forge to work like a modern oven just push the button and presto, instant fire!

Rick stacked up stone blocks and cemented them to resemble a  (4' ft tall x 3' ft deep x 8' ft long)  rectangle planter against the south wall.

He then used his hammer and stone chisels to carve a circle into the interior blocks at the bottom of this hollow stone planter.

Love what you're reading? Discover and support the author on the platform they originally published on.

With his [masonary] skill and runic knowledge, he could make a symmetrical circle like this free-handed.

Around the inside of the finished chiseled circle, he neatly carved in series of runic inscriptions and magic symbols with one of his smaller chisels used for detail work.

If I can carve circles and symbols this neatly I should be able to sculpt stone or marble. I guess that is one more thing to add on to my ever growing future to-do list.

When the rune was complete, he placed his hand over it a began to feed it mana while he said;  "gjalla megin sifjar gaefr vinda"  which best translates to [ bellows ability affinity mild wind ]. The whole rune began to flicker with blue light as he spoke the words and finished empowering it.

Now to test it out, and pray I didn't make a mistake, I really don't want to remake this rune.

Rick placed his hand on the rune again and said the word; " fyrsta " [translates to Begin]. The rune powered up to blast out a good breeze that blew his hair back as he examined the glowing symbols at work. When Rick was satisfied it was working perfectly he placed his hand on the rune again said; " letta "  [translates to Stop].

Sweet. this rune is working perfectly I can move on to the next step.

Picking up the hammer, and a wide stone chisel he cut two of the blocks into, eight  3" inch thick slabs. He cemented these eight 3" thick slabs over the open mouth of the hollow stone planter with a gap of 1" in-between them to allow for airflow from the wind rune below them.

It looks like a stone block barbecue grill now with all the open one-inch slots on top between the slabs.

Rick began then carving two more runes into the surface of those 3" thick stone slabs with a near three-foot spacing apart from one another.

The two runes are compeletly carved out now, I just need to use the runic language to empower them.

Rick placed a hand over each one of the fresh cut runes, and fed them mana while saying; "frammi bruni megin sifjar sterkr aldrnari" [translates to produce heat ability affinity strong fire].

With the completion of the fire runes he now had to chisel a runic symbol chain between the three allowing them to connect on a single circuit.

When he finished connecting the runes into their circuit, Rick carved out and connected one last small rune on the front of the forge, which is used to turn the circuit of runes on and off by touch.

Rick placed his finger on the small rune on the front of the forge to turn the forge circuit on. The small rune lit up and air blew out from inside the forge through the slots up, and around the two fire runes stoking the hot flames they produced.

Holy crap this thing works great but It puts out a hell of a lot of heat. I guess in the winter if it gets cold this will help warm the tower.

Rick then hung three of his smelting pots over the new forge allowing the fire runes to heat them up.

With the forge now complete, he made a cemented stone block pedestal next to the forge and secured a thick piece of wood on top of it to set an anvil on. When he had the anvil and forge squared away he wanted to make a workbench.

With the recipes for the 2"x6" beams and 8"x8" posts, he built a 8 ft long solid heavy duty bench with a tool rack built attached to the back of it, and six drawers that pull out from the front.

I need to start smelting that gold now, my money is almost gone. I want to order more resources, and buy a few laborers to help out here.

Rick filled up one of the smelting pots with gold and left it to melt while he walked down to the river where he saw some large slabs of stone earlier that had been cut out of the ground from years of water erosion.

He found a large thin slab and squared it off to about 6ft x 6ft and took it down to the cellar using his inventory. Extracting it to the floor next to the forge, he knelt down on it.

Searching through the inventory he brought out a hammer and iron punch to tediously tap out 1300 gold coin diameter indentations to use for casting gold coin blanks. Slowly scooping up molten gold he filled the 1300 coin cast and left them to cool.

When the coin casts cooled down some he removed them to refill them with more gold.

Rick brought out one of his coin presses and set it on the workbench and pressed out the first 1300 coins and examined a few of them.

What an improvement the coins they had been making looked like a lump of squashed gold some struck wit a stamp. These coins are flat and round with a centered face and back. They may not match up to modern coins but I am happy with them for now.

When the first 1300 were complete and he finished looking them over it was time to get serious. The next few hours he continued to make gold blanks and press them out ten more times.

Rick opened his inventory to admire his new currency balance that read out 13,000 gold coins.

Wow, does that look nice 13000 gold coins in my inventory ready to spend!

I am starting to see a trend though, the VIP options are all expensive.

The developers must have wanted to offer a little extra to VIP accounts without breaking the balance of the game.

Wait a minute here!  If this game were in a Japanese manga, isn't this now the time the MC would create a cute little neko girl, and dress her up in a short maid outfit?

Let me see here...

Show Valkyrie race!

Valkyrie Race

The Valkyrie are beautiful females who have all died in battle.

They are reincarnated exceptional warriors, who have had a good alignment in their past life.

They now live in spirit form, on a separate plane of existence with no memory of their past lives.

Unlike Valkyrie of Norse Mythology, they do not have wings or serve any god or goddess.

The Goddess Faith had once revealed to them that they may be selected to serve one of her Chosen someday.

Every Valkyrie now has only one wish, to serve one of the Chosen, and live once again in the world of the living beside them.

This Valkyrie description sounds like one of those (save an animal) commercials, "for only a one-time payment of 100 gold you can change the life of these poor Valkyrie today!"

I do like their description they sound like great fighters, but isn't kind of sad that they are stuck waiting for years, to maybe be picked to serve a Chosen?

It would be nice to have another fighter around in the event of trouble, and not just laborers and craftsman.

Show Forsaken Race!

Forsaken Race

The race of Forsaken.

They are white-skinned and black-haired. They have excellent vision and are extremely agile.

The Forsaken tend to lean toward evil alignments.

They abandoned their goddess who created them in their imprudent arrogance.

They live in scattered tribes on an undiscovered island.

Forsaken generally chose rogue type classes.

The forsaken sound like they would make good assassins, or spies.

I really don't need either of those right now, and that description they are so arrogant they turned their back on the goddess who created them.

They sound like a handful of trouble so only one choice left.

Show Hero Adventurer class!

Hero Adventurer Class

A Hero Adventurer is a Veteran adventurer with exceptional physical skills and high initiative who trains to improve his/her general usefulness in various situations.

Their attributes are based on Strength or Dexterity. They show versatility in listen, search, heal, and stealth skills.

They are all-rounders, rather than skilled specialists.

They can train a weapon until competently mastering it though.

Hero Adventurers work well with a [Rogue] [Fighter] [archer] type sub-class.

"The rules of survival never change, even if you're in the deepest dungeon or a boundless sea."

The Hero Knight is the supreme force on the battlefield.

The Hero Knight mainly uses the lance, sword, and spear, but are proficient with all melee weapons and with all armors.

The Hero Knight is an Expert Rider.

"I promise on my faith that I will in the future be faithful to the Lord, and never cause him harm ."

Hero Ranger Class

The Hero Ranger is an accomplished skirmisher, in melee and range, capable of skillfully dancing in and out of battle.

Hero Rangers excel in stalking and stealth.

The Hero Ranger is proficient with daggers and ranged weapons.

The Hero Ranger is trained to use light armor, medium armor, and shields.

The Hero Ranger seems to be moving shadow in the trees and thick vegetation.

“An ordinary archer practices until he gets it right. A ranger practices until he never gets it wrong.”

I really don't need to look at the Battle Dancer I am positive it is a Blade Dancer variant of some kind. The Aura Knight is just a support class knight that buffs allies with auras.

Show BladeMaster Class!

BladeMaster Class

Many warriors may train in the blade, beyond that of the average soldier.

But none can match the sheer prowess of the BladeMaster.

Though not as versatile, BladeMasters are paragons among those who wield their chosen instrument.

All look on in awe as they artfully, and brutally, decimate their enemies with a skill and precision that most cannot even dream of matching.

They specialize in doing large amounts of damage in a short time.

"Here, let me show you how it's done. If you survive, maybe I'll give you a few pointers."

There we go daddy likes!

The Hero Knight sounded good for a first class but I think they be a little to battlefield oriented. The BladeMaster sounds like they can kick butt out in the wilderness or on the battlefield.

You have purchased a create a custom unit.

900 gold pieces have been withdrawn from your inventory.

Your unit will spawn at your [System Gate].

Rick was standing in the cellar of his unfinished tower, and just completed the purchase of Angelica.

Then there right before him in the center of the [system gate] a girl slowly shimmered into the world.

Once the girl had fully spawned in he could see that Angelica was standing in a sleep-like state with her eyes closed.

Rick, while patiently waiting for her to wake curiously began to look over the new face before him.

Angelica looked to be in her 20s, she stood about ( 5' 10") tall with an athletic build. She has straight white hair with thin black highlights and a face that rivaled top models in the real world.

She was wearing long white semi-transparent dress and looked like an angel, just like her name, Angelica.

Just then she lightly stired, and opened her eyes to look around the room then to at Cedric.

Angelica then gave a startled yelp, before Rick could say, or ask anything tears began to stream down her face.

She continued to look around the room, and then to examine her hands before her silver colored eyes etched with shock.

Covering her mouth with her hands after looking at them she fell to her knees sobbing.

Rick quickly walked over to her and knelt down before her.

"Hello Angelica I'm Cedric, now please tell me what is wrong why are you crying?"  [Rick]

Is it that I pulled you away from your life in the astral plane?    [Rick]

Rick removed one of the silver goblets from his inventory and filled it with water and put it in her hands.

She gazed down at the cup for a moment and began to calm down some.

When she looked up her face was flush from crying and tears still stained her face.

Angelica raised her head to look at Rick and shook her head from side to side.

"I was in that place for I don't know how years alone."  she told him with tears in her eyes.

"I had all this knowledge about the world that I know I once lived."

"I would wonder why I have this knowledge, and what happened to me that I ended up alone in that place."  [Angelica]

"Then, one day I heard a voice that was not my own, the voice told me she was a goddess!"

"The goddess wanted to tell me she was proud how I once lived my life, and that someday I would get to serve one of her chosen in this world."  [Angelica]

Rick removed a scrap of white cloth from his inventory and wiped her eyes dry as she continued her story.

"I was so shocked at first that I had heard another person speak to me for the first time in this life or death..."   She said; her words trailing off as she regathered her thoughts.

"Then as I recalled her words I became excited about my future. I'd often wonder what my Lord and life with him would be like as time passed unmarked." [Angelica]

"When I began to wonder over time if what the goddess told me would really one day happen, she called out to me once again." [Angelica]

"The goddess said her name is Faith and that she was going to send me to meet someone."  [Angelica]

"The Goddess Faith told me that I was special so she was going to send me to serve her friend and first chosen."   [Angelica]

Rick smiled at hearing her tell him Faith said that they are friends.

Angelica didn't seem to be upset over being pulled away but quite the opposite.

He wrapped his arms around her and pulled her up to her feet while hugging her close.

"I see, yes Faith is my friend, and I am glad she sent you to me."  [Rick]

"You don't worry about anything now you will never be alone again."  {Rick]

After a slight pause Rick said;  "Welcome home Angelica....o-or what will be your home this is only the cellar I need to finish the upper part still, haha."   [Rick]

Angelica continued crying tears of joy in his arms while he rubbed her back smiling down at her.
