Interlude: The Lawmakers Fate

Day 5, Year of the Catastrophe – Wednesday, 4th of May, 2020.

3:42 am – Church of St. Ulrich – Kingdom of the Dead – church fair hall –

It was the middle of the night. Silver-blue moonlight shone through the glass windows of the Church of St. Ulrich. The colored glass gave it an eerie look, that was fascinating to look at. Dozens of believers had gathered here a few days ago, but the church walls and god had not protected them. The undead outside had not been able to penetrate the walls or the large wooden doors, but they didn’t have to. Every single person inside had turned on their own. Everyone but one.

Allyna Saprobic and her grandmother had gathered here with other seniority when they became wind of the catastrophe. A few horrible hours of defending her grandmother from a turned priest and two elderly men, the thing that killed Allyna was her own grandmother. She had turned slowly, yet surely and a bite into the right shoulder later Allyna was destined to die. She managed to flee upstairs to the second floor in the church fair hall. After barricading the staircase it did not take very long for her to accept her looming death. The only thing that made her really depressed was the fact that she too would become a mindless creature like the people downstairs, killing others and walking around even after long being dead.

She did not want to turn into that, so she grabbed a rope of soft cloth that was used as an ornament at the windows. She tied it to the balcony and the other end to her neck. She would rather be undead and hanging from this, than running around harming others. It was the last thing she actually could do. Sighing she sat on the balcony, seven to eight meters above the ground. Her body felt very hot. It was burning. When she let go and fell, her neck snapped immediately.

Since then almost four days had passed. Now in this beautiful moonlight night, Allyna was still hanging from said cloth rope. Her heart had stopped beating, the pressure from the cloth rope did not allow her to breathe. Then she died again.

Immediately she revived, her neck fully functional, her heart beating and her mind grasping for air. Her hands shot upwards, pulling herself up on the cloth rope, that was tied around her neck. She gasper for air immediately. Then she cursed. How many times did that make now? A hundred? Two? She could not remember. The spot on her shoulder where she had been bitten before, radiated heat. She did not know why, but it also happened every time she came back to life. Desperately, she tried to climb up the rope but she was just not strong enough for something like this. Halfway up, her power gave out, letting her slide down. Too weak to pull herself up again, she could not breathe. The lack of oxygen started the vicious cycle again. It would take some minutes for her to suffocate, before she would revive again. And again. And again.

She was in hell and hell was toying with her. Surrounded by an army of undead zombies in a church, hanging from a rope that would support her for years to come. And the universe would not let her die.

As the urge to breathe grew familiarly intense, she struggled, but soon she felt on the edge of passing out again. There was only one thought on her mind:

“Someone, please help me!”
