Chapter 28 The Red Moon Bandits

Chapter 28 The Red Moon Bandits

"I see. So, if you can't do something yourself, you should team up with someone who can?"

Hearing Silva's response, the young man's nodded.

"You're right, no one can do everything alone. Alright, I wish you the best of luck."

  "Yes, thank you."

As the young man smiled at Silva and was about to walk away, he seemed to remember something and turned back.

"Oh, right. The Red Moon Gang I mentioned earlier operates in the area between Merfelen and Alou, targeting the highways and villages. If you're heading that way, be careful."

Watching the young man leave, Silva pondered deeply.

(Bandits appear in the direction of Alou...)

The direction of Alou was one of the towns along the highway from the Imperial Capital to the eastern border, and it was Silva's next planned destination.

  At the Blacksmith

"This is no good at all! It'd be cheaper to buy a new one, kid."

The blacksmith barked at Silva, who had brought his sword to be sharpened.

  "It's that bad?"

"Yeah. What the hell did you do with it? The blade's completely rounded, it's just a stick now."

(This is bad... I didn't expect it to wear out in just one day...)

Silva was certainly more familiar with handling blades than an average person, but even he hadn't had much experience cutting flesh with a blade so often.

"Well, I used it for hunting..."

"Look at this. The blade's all dull with blood and fat, and it's this rounded. How long have you neglected its maintenance?"

"Just today. I bought it new yesterday..."

Hearing Silva's words, the blacksmith's eyes widened.

"Don't be ridiculous. There's no way it'd get in this state just from cutting ten or twenty times! It'd take cutting over a hundred..."

But seeing Silva's face, the blacksmith realized he wasn't joking.

  "You're not joking... are you?"

  "No."

"Sorry, but I don't have anything better than this sword here. We specialize in casting."

That was something Silva had already figured out when he entered the shop.

"Well, never mind the sword. Give me a reasonable one. But could you sharpen these?"

Unauthorized use: this story is on Amazon without permission from the author. Report any sightings.

Saying that, Silva took out ten chakrams dulled by fat.

"What's this? Are these weapons too?"

  "The edges are blades."

It seemed to be the first time he had seen such a weapon. The blacksmith picked up the chakram with curiosity.

"Well, these aren't as bad... When do you need them done by?"

  "If possible, by tomorrow morning."

"Hmm, if I take an hour per piece, I could have them ready by around ten tomorrow morning."

(By ten, huh. Well, I'll take it easy at the inn, stop by here, and then head to the guild...)

"Alright. Please do that. How much will it be?"

"Let's see... Since you're buying a sword too, how about 400 barts?"

Having earned nearly 2000 barts from the supply and extermination quests today, this wasn't a significant expense for Silva.

(The sword here is cheaper than the one from the Imperial Capital's blacksmith because it's a cast sword...)

"Alright, I'll come by at ten tomorrow."

After saying this, he paid half the amount and left the blacksmith's shop.

  (First things first, food...)

Carrying his hunger with him, Silva disappeared into the town of Merfelen.

...

On the third day since Silva Schneizel had been summoned to this world, it was nearing noon. Silva was walking along the road leading to Aru.

Today, Silva had woken up later than usual. After a quick breakfast, he headed to the blacksmith to pick up his weapons, which he had left for sharpening.

(A band of thieves... I hope I don't run into them...)

Silva recalled his earlier visit to the guild that morning before setting off for Aru to accept a quest.

"Come on! Anyone with the skills should definitely take on this quest!"

A middle aged man, whom the receptionist had referred to as Gilts the previous day, was shouting loudly in front of the bulletin board outside the guild.

Silva pushed his way through the crowd and looked at the notice posted on the board.

  Notice:

We are forming a subjugation party to eliminate the band of thieves known as the "Red Moon Group," which has been sighted between Melferen and Aru.

  Conditions:

Complete extermination of the "Red Moon Group" bandits. All members must be killed or captured.

  Rewards:

A reward of 50,000 baht per bandit. Eight members have been confirmed. If more bandits are identified, a reward of 50,000 baht will be paid for each additional member.

Upon the completion of the quest, 50 achievement points will be awarded to each member of the subjugation party.

  Period:

Within half a month from the formation of the subjugation party.

Approved by: Melferen Guild Branch Head, Acles Rekine

As Silva read the notice, he overheard the conversations around him.

"Hey, it says 50,000 for each one you take down! That's 400,000 for eight of them."

"Wow, the guild's really going all out, huh?"

"They had no choice. Apparently, Goraes failed... The guild's reputation is at stake."

"What? Even 'Rock Crusher' Goraes failed?"

"Yeah, he was dealing with another bandit group."

"Ha! He went on the subjugation without even investigating? What an idiot... But that's just like him! He's strong, but his head's empty."

"Hey, hey. If Goraes hears that, he'll tear your head off!"

The men around seemed to be mercenaries or adventurers.

"I'm terribly sorry, but all delivery quests between Melferen and Aru have been suspended. Even urgent deliveries are restricted to those ranked E or higher, so we cannot offer them to you Mr. Schneizel." the receptionist informed Silva.

"Is it because of the thieves?"

"Yes. The guild suffered a significant blow to its prestige due to this failure... We've been pressured by the lord and the guards as well... Oh! I'm sorry, please forget what I just said."

"No, no, that's fine. So, is there any quest I can take?"

"Let's see... We currently have three types of subjugation quests at I rank and at H rank."

"With an I rank quest, higher ranked individuals can take it without gaining achievement points, but the reward is doubled, right?"

  "Yes, that's correct."

  "And what about the deadlines?"

"Subjugation quests below B rank have no deadlines as a general rule."

  "Oh, is that so?"

"Yes, so I recommend taking subjugation quests below B rank if you can."

"Then, I'll take all the subjugation quests available at Single H rank."

"Understood. Please take a look at this," she said, handing over a book.

  "And this is?"
