COH Academy

COH Academy

My head is spinning. My face feels like it's been hit. Despite the discomfort, I don't want to wake up. But the bright light and someone nearby force my eyes open.

"You're awake!" a bright female voice exclaims. She has vivid crimson hair, unusual yet complementing her confident demeanor. She'd be popular with anyone.

"Sorry, I didn't mean to hit you so hard," she apologizes. "I didn't expect it to feel like that..."

"...Beautiful," I mutter involuntarily.

"Huh?" she asks.

"Oh..." I cover my mouth, embarrassed.

The woman looks surprised, then mischievous, tapping my arm. "You're joking, right? Anyway, thank you!"

"Ow...!" It hurts a lot. Just a tap, but it feels like a heavy metal object. I barely keep myself from rolling off the bed.

"Rose, I told you to apologize properly," a man says, approaching the bedside. He's tall, sharp-eyed, wearing a uniform that exudes order and cleanliness. A perfectionist.

He adjusts my position and checks a device. "Normal. Vital signs are safe. This morning, they were dangerous."

"Really?" Rose asks.

"Yes. With medical support, he should recover by tomorrow."

Did I almost die? This room looks futuristic, like a hospital from the future. This isn't a dream. The absurd conversation with the intruder and being sucked into a book... It's all real. The pain is too vivid.

I thought it'd be weeks of recovery, but tomorrow? Unless this is where I fear...

The 28th century, six centuries into the space age. If this is 800 years later, then it's possible. So, who's 'Rose'?

The uniform suggests this is COH (Cradle of Hero) Academy, for the best talents of the United Human Alliance. Is she an extra?

My novel's world is vast. In a futuristic universe, there are many characters. Even with an academy arc, I wouldn't detail everyone. Yet, 'Rose' sounds familiar.

This story originates from a different website. Ensure the author gets the support they deserve by reading it there.

"Ah!" I remember. 'Blood Rose,' 'The Cruel Queen'... But she's part of the 'Miracle Generation.'

They appeared in the darkest times, five immensely talented individuals, the last treasures of the Alliance.

The problem is, this is the academy period, at least 25 years before the main story. The protagonist is a newborn or not even born yet.

I need to check the time, but it's clear the protagonist is just a child. My expression darkens. Intervening early is one thing, but this is too much!

I can't even complain to the protagonist who might just have been born.

"Are you really okay?" the man asks.

"There could be brain damage," Rose says. "Remember, he was hit by your punch. No one would be fine."

"What?" I look again at the man checking the device. If she's Rose, then he must be 'Barton Stingray,' the 'Cold-blooded Slaughterer,' known for killing countless aliens. He's the opposite of Rose, yet they're a good team.

Seeing them in real life excites and awes me.

"Heart rate has increased. Pituitary hormone secretion has risen," Barton says.

"Is it serious?" Rose asks.

"Emergency medical support might be needed. The system is automated, but it wouldn't hurt to notify ahead of time."

"Wait a minute..."

First, I need to stop this rampage. I raise my upper body, waving my hands to stop Barton from manipulating the medical device.

Fortunately, they both focus on my actions like model students.

"I'm fine," I assure them.

"Thank goodness!" Rose exclaims, relieved.

"Really?" Barton questions skeptically. "Personal judgment is difficult to serve as an objective standard of value, especially considering the impact of this ignorant punch… Argh!"

Hey, are you okay? I heard something exploding just now. Rose is the strongest physical fighter among the Miracle Generation.

Anyone who can take a punch from Rose and still be okay would be hard to find throughout the universe.

Ah, now that I think about it, should I be worried? Given that I'm lying here, it seems I just finished sparring with Rose. I'm worried.

Fortunately, Barton quickly regains his composure. With superhuman patience, he endures the pain, his face turning slightly red, showing signs of tremors from the sudden muscle contraction.

"Don't worry about this fool," Barton says to Rose. "Anyway, I'm glad you're okay. I hope you recover quickly. Lemon."

"Ahem," Rose coughs, then adds, "Ack! Don't ignore even minor injuries. To recover quickly, you need to pay close attention to the body's warning signs."

"Alright, alright," Barton concedes. "Come here and have an ice pack. Lemon, you should stop resting now."

He came like a whirlwind and disappeared like a storm. Their departure significantly eased the tense atmosphere. Even my anxious mind calmed down a bit.

Now, it's time to confirm the most important thing. I recall the name they mentioned: 'Lemon.' There's almost no chance that this is my real name. It's probably a nickname or a shortened version of a longer name.

I look around for clues. There isn't anything within reach that could be helpful. Instead, I notice a set of academy uniforms hanging on the wall beside the door they had left through. On the upper pocket of the chest, bright thread embroidered the name: 'Leonard Monarch.'

Leonard Monarch. It all comes back to me. Multiple scenes flash before my eyes like watching a film. From the moment I was born to being knocked out by Rose's fist. At the same time, I understood why I ended up in the body of this 'Lemon' person.

He's dead. The Lemon who sparred with Rose didn't just almost die, he actually died. It's a common occurrence in an academy that emphasizes practical training. Why wouldn't it be? The purpose of the COH Academy is to train superhumans who can effectively eliminate the enemy, aliens. The United Human Alliance is well aware of this and accepts it as an inevitable result.

But for me, it was shocking in a different way. 'A character who exits the stage.' In my writing, Lemon definitely died.

Who saved him? The damn protagonist who jumped out of my story and brought me here? Or was it me, who intruded unexpectedly and saved Lemon's body from imminent death? I don't know.

'Ah, anyway, what should I do?' It's bleak. In this world, it's not unusual for people to die anytime, anywhere. While I didn't necessarily wish for talents that would be considered insane, Lemon is a bit of a problem.

He's not just an extra. He's an extra who died before the curtain even went up. Of course, his acceptance into COH itself proves that he's one of the top talents of the United Human Alliance, 'one in a million.'

But still...
