The primates rushed toward the young man, abandoning their high ground advantage to end his life swiftly. Judging by how fleshy he was, the prey in front of them was enough to sustain their pack for two days. There was rarely any easy target left in this jungle, and those which were still around were all smart enough to avoid their territory.
Ken quickly looked around, trying to find any good strategic position for him, as well as any flankers that might catch him off guard. To his delight and disappointment, the apes were not smart enough to make such strategy, or perhaps they underestimated him so much that they felt no need for such hassle. The bad news was that he was in an open field, and that fact meant he had to face all 5 of them simultaneously.
Noticing the first two of the pack were getting close, Ken charged forward, intent on taking the first blood. His spear pierced through the first ape by its abdomen, its scream followed right after. Ken almost wince by instinct, instead he swiped his spear toward the second ape, slamming it to the side.
By this point, the other 3 apes were already in melee, all three attacked from different directions. Ken did his best side stepping to the left, dodging the right most foe while simultaneously hitting the left one with his spear’s butt. His increased muscle strength, along with the momentum generated from his movement proved to be an overkill, as he heard several cracking sounds coming from the ape’s body.
Ken was not safe just yet, as the one in the middle had reached him and bit him by his right shoulder. Ken screamed in pain as the beast tore a chunk of his deltoid muscle. Ken panicked and let go of his spear, grabbing the monkey by its head, he pulled it away from his shoulder. He then slammed it on the ground, and gave its face two heavy stomps, deforming its head.
A surge of pleasure came into his body as the ape died, catching Ken off guard. This opening almost cost him his life, as he barely dodged another pounce from the apes. Ken steadied himself, only the one he swiped away and the one he dodged were left standing.
Ken made a quick work out of the two, fighting them with his bare hands as they were too nimble and close to fight with spear. Taking several scratch wounds but nothing as heavy as the one on his arm.
As he finished the two, ken saw that the ape he stabbed with his spear and the one which bones he broke were still alive. They were unable to move, fear was shown clearly in their eyes. He sighed, then took his spear and gave them a swift ending.
Ken’s whole body was covered in sweat, blood still dripping down his arm. Ken was filled with fear while reviewing the fight. The apes themselves were manageable, as his upgraded status gave him enough power to overwhelm them. It was instead the experience and the pleasure it brought along that almost killed him.
Shaking his head, Ken then opened the notifications.

The last notification was new, as he never fought more than one enemy at a time before this. The system quickly came with an explanation. As a solo fighter, he would receive an extra one percent experience from any successive kills he did in a battle. A quick recalling at the apes’ levels confirmed the system’s explanation.
Previously when he inputted the attribute points, Ken had no time to review his status. Now that he was not in any immediate danger, he was eager to see how much he grew before the fight.

His strength and endurance were clearly much higher than before, his performance in the immediate battle after the upgrade was clear evidence of how much stronger he became after updating his status. He had even received natural increases in both endurance and intelligence after a whole day of continuous fighting. All in all, his day of training outside had been a fruitful endeavor.
Looting the dead bodies in front of him, Ken received 4 ape pelts and a pair of jaw bones. The pair of jaw bones were categorized as a single item. Not sure what to do with the loots, he tossed them along with the pelts into his back sack.
Ken then picked up his water sack and filled it to the brim. While he had Lev’s healing spell waiting at the cottage, he still took his time to splashing water on his wounds to wash the dirt off. He did not want to bet on Lev’s spell against the possibility of infection.
Wounded and tired, Ken was in no condition to have another fight. He then strode east, using his marks to navigate his way home. He had enough fight for the day and his body deserved a rest.
Ken sighed in relief, the pain from his wounds dissipated as his wounds closed in the matter of seconds. Even the biggest wound, the one on his arm was gone in no more than 10 seconds.
“Thanks again Lev, I owe you one”
“At this rate, you would owe me favor faster than I could collect them”
Lev said with a smile teasingly. Ken out a strained smile as he unslinged the back sack, taking out the loots he obtained from his day of adventure. As he put the last item on the table, he offered.
“I got several items during the day, see anything you need or want to take?”
“Its fine, you can keep them. You would need something to sell for money when you arrived at the town. I appreciate the offer though”
Shrugging, Ken then put them back in his back sack, while reviewing his loots. For a day of adventure he got 6 pheasant meats, 5 ape pelts, 4 rat fangs, a pair of ape jaws and a boar horn. Apart from those, he also got a sticky toad’s leg, which he threw away immediately. He could live without it, and without it shall he live.
“That’s a good point actually, how much do you think these stuffs worth? let’s say… use a meal or a night of sleep for measure, lets not include the jaws and the horn, I might have a use for them later”
“I have not been there, or any human town in a long time. But I believe those stuffs would be enough for you to last 3 to 4 days in any human town.”
A day of dangerous work for several days of sustenance and shelter. It was not a bad deal, considering the people in this world can grow much faster than any human or creature in his own world. His life would only be getting better by time as he leveled. At least he hoped so.
He later enjoyed a good vegan meal with Lev, his third one in his two days of stay. His small talk let him know that she was fine with eating meat but chose not to for she had little use of the energy it provided. Yes, people living in a magic world knew about calories, what a surprise.
Ken then made several conversations about fat decreasing magic and stuff, talking about the huge business available if one can do such thing, to which Lev quickly excused herself with a yawn. Ken smiled and bid her a good night, then he went to his own room and have a sleep. Tomorrow would be another busy day.
