After freaking out for a few minutes over his appearance, Jade took a few deep breaths, looking around and making sure no one else was still around. Okay, time to set serious. I need to make a living on this world, and fighting seems to be the thing I should be good at. He sighed at that, not looking forward to it. Hopefully. He really hoped the crafting plan would work out. Looking at the money section again, he decided to see if he could find a general store to buy some supplies, assuming he would need to head out to hunt monsters sometime soon. I need more basic materials too.
Asking around wasn’t too difficult, though some people looked strangely at the helmet he wore after he put it back on. He’d have taken off his armor all together, but found out in a nearby bathroom that he only wore underwear underneath. The local clothing store was his first stop then, the shop keep especially helpful in finding something else to wear. The first thing he bought was a tan tunic, black jacket/cloak, and a blue scarf, as the outfit reminded him of the clothing salesman from Errant, since it looked similar to what he’d normally sell. He put it in the ‘social’ tab of his armor, the chestplate being swapped out for his new clothing. He then bought a token to hide the appearance of his helm, smiling at the common piece of magic as it fit well into his social slots as well. Looking in a nearby mirror, he decided he liked the look of his armor leggings and boots, keeping them on while also paying the shop keep for two other sets of clothes in case his needed to be washed or were ruined in some other way.
His new coloring still freaked him out, but he’d found he got more comfortable with the idea of being on the world, especially after the new wardrobe. He even felt something inside him… settle. His inventory had been easy to pull up, but he felt it was almost instinctual at that point. Hopefully it means my… upheaval or whatever is over, he grumbled to himself, remembering the elf’s words.
Next was the general store, Jade looking to get rations and other necessities for travel. Not always going to be in a town now. Going up to the counter, he looked at all of the wares on the shelves, seeing several miscellaneous potions, tools, weapons, and other such items. He stopped when he saw a rather good looking steel ax, humming to himself. I did lose my last one… though maybe I can craft it?
His thought was cut off as an older lady with bright orange skin came out from the back, smiling gently at him as she stepped behind the counter. “What can I do for you lad?”
“Going to go back on the road and looking to restock,” he stated casually, glancing at the shelves behind her. “What kinds of rations you have?”
She went through the options she had on hand, Jade taking two dozen each of the jerky and nut bars, glancing at the wares around him again. It was a good thing that similar items stacked, taking up one slot in the inventory instead of multiple. He spotted a stack of wooden logs sitting in the one corner, the dark color the exact color of the walls around him, and had a thought he needed to try out. After giving the old lady the copper to buy it, he placed the wood in his inventory and tried to poke around at the edges of it. I should have some kind of crafting list… oh here we go. A new box popped up off to the side of his inventory, showing only one item being available for crafting, the spruce wood crafting bench.
Once selected, the newly crafted item appeared not in the main inventory, but in a new menu at the top of his crafting box, having used up some, but not all of the wood from his inventory. New items populated on the crafting screen, Jade grinning like a loon at the new options.
“Is there anything else you require young man?” the old woman asked, giving Jade a strange look as he blushed.
“Yes actually. Is there somewhere where I can buy more wood and some stone as well?” After getting some directions from the shop-keep, he walked out of the store, the massive grin still on his face. He looked back over the crafting list as he walked, scrolling past the various spruce wood furniture he could make and went right to the various weapons and armor he could make from the dark wood. Maybe that’s how I can survive on this world, he thought to himself, nodding at the simple designs and thinking of the possibilities he had with the other materials he remembered from Errant. All I need are the crafting stations and I should be good to go.

He’d had to visit the local carpenter to get the wood he’d needed, half tempted to buy out the whole stock but holding himself back, remembering the other wood types he could potentially get access to. The stone mason’s shop had been a bit of a letdown, however, Jade dismayed at the rock-like snow and ice the mason sold. When asked where Jade could get some regular stone from, the mason shrugged.
“Only place you’d be able to get that from is the forested area. Don’t know if you’ve noticed, but the only things we have around here is snow and ice.” Feeling a bit dejected, Jade decided to head to the center of town, hoping there were some food stalls he could buy from to fill his disappointment. He still bought some snow and ice bricks, of course, though he couldn’t craft anything with either before he had the correct crafting station.
Once he arrived at the center of town, he noticed the structure in the center of the square, his eyebrows raising at the familiar looking diamond statue. Sure, this one was a grey color, made of what looked like ice, but it otherwise looked like the plinths that could help people fast travel to other villages in Errant. Food forgotten, he rushed up to the statue and placed a hand on it, frowning at the message he’d received.
[Plinths remaining: 1]
“Not going to get anything more out of that newbie,” a feminine voice called out, Jade biting back a groan as the pink girl and her entourage stroll up to him. “Though why you’d bother, I’ll ask of you later. Every other major town’s Plinth says the same thing.”
“Do you just love the sound of your own voice, or did you have a reason to bother me?” he asked, just wanting her to go away as he felt the magic inside of him tug at a part of his inventory.
“Yeah. Where exactly did you get this?” she asked as Jade pulled out the magic mirror from his inventory, looking to the object in her hand. It looked similar to the silver coins he’d handed over earlier to the bartender, though lighter in color and looking more polished. A platinum coin…? he thought to himself before he glanced at the money section of his inventory and noticing the 998 next to the coins in his inventory.
“Did… did you steal that from my inventory?” he asked quietly, his gaze on her turning to a glare.
“Of course not,” she huffed, her cheeks turning a darker shade of pink at the obvious lie. “Only criminals would have that kind of power. You didn’t answer my question though. Where did you get it?”
“None of your business.” Jade spotted her brother walking towards the group, turning back to the mirror in his hand as he figured the situation would resolve itself shortly.
“Of course it’s my business. No one has these coins in this town other than nobles, and you look nothing like a noble.” He ignored her as he stared deeply into the mirror, feeling the magic inside of him respond to it as it started to glow.
“For the last time Kim, leave the newcomer alone.” Her brother got right up into the pink lady’s face, Jade only noticing it out of the corner of his eye.
“Oh come on Yondol. He’s stacked.” She waved around the coin in her hand, attracting even more attention from the wandering passerby.
“And what, you’re planning on shaking him down for it? Amy, you can’t just walk-“ The elf cut himself off with a gasp as a silver light enveloped Jade’s body, the mirror in his hand now glowing even brighter as he stared at it. For a moment, everything stood still, the townsfolk clearly haven’t seen any type of magic like it before according to their reactions, before Jade jerked back at a screen appearing in front of his face.
[Plinth forcibly activated. Please choose a teleport destination.]
Below that were icons familiar to Jade, each denoting a different biome from Errant. Desert, Snow, Forest, Ocean, Caverns, and Jungle. The only one that was missing was the Mushroom biome. That must be what’s missing, he thought to himself, looking at the Forest icon and deciding to go to that one first to get his stone. Then maybe the others for their wood and see if I can get more crafting materials.
As soon as he selected the Forest icon, the glow started getting brighter and brighter, Jade having to use his other hand to shield his eyes from the glare. Right before he teleported, however, he felt a hand grab the sleeve of his shirt, Jade quickly vanishing from view from the snow filled town.
