Chapter Six: On To The Next Town!

Of course Yondol and Amy wanted to do some shopping before heading off to the next town, just in case if they needed anything that the next town couldn’t offer. Jade obviously grabbed some wood as well, the collector in him wanting each of the various types of wood for decorative purposes. I want to settle down eventually of course, he thought to himself, sighing as his anxiety have a brief wiggle. No main character stuff for me. Just a nice quiet life crafting things, like I always wanted. Jade shrugged to himself, arriving at the meeting location with a smile. Never thought it would be making weapons and armor for adventurers, but thems the breaks.

After a few minutes of Jade perusing the food stalls, the siblings finally arrived back from their errands, both looking cautiously at the Plinth. “We should wait for night…” Yondol muttered, Jade giving him a nod as he swallowed the bite of kebab he was eating.

“Fair. What should we do in the meantime?” Amy was already perusing the food stalls as Yondol and Jade discussed.

“The guild?” Yondol suggested, Jade giving him a sour look at that.

“We’re not going to run into more weirdos there are we?” he asked, glancing over at Amy as she walked back to the men with a lot of food in her hands.

“Should be fine. We probably need to register our contribution anyway. Don’t want to miss out on the slime rain rewards.” Jade groaned at that, Amy giving a giggle.

“Fine.” As they walked to the guild building, Amy asked several questions about Jade’s crafting ability, Jade giving the rundown of how he had the crafting space to build anything when he activated the ability. He’d gone over the basics for them before giving a smile.

“I’m hoping to see about giving more detail to the items to see if it does anything special. At the very least it should make the items look better.” Yondol gave a nod at that, swiping one of Amy’s meat sticks to chew on.

“Sensible. Magic doesn’t always give you all the details on how it works, so it’d be best to experiment with it.” The rest of the walk was in silence, the city obviously bigger in size if the distances between things was anything to go by.

They soon reached what was obviously the guild building, as it stood several stories above the surrounding buildings. It was made from the grey stone and wood like all the other buildings were of course, Jade contemplating seeing if his crafting powers would allow him to work on making better buildings. Maybe then there’d be more variety… Once inside the main part of the building, the party went to the bar, marveling at the different selections of drinks lining the walls.

“Evening,” the bartender sweetly said, her smile bright even as Jade shivered at her appearance. She looked the most inhuman, her eyes way too big for her face which accented her longer nose, not to mention the fox ears flicking on top of her head. As she leaned on the counter, her fox like tail lazily flicked behind her, her boobs nearly falling out of the cleavage of her shirt. “What can I get for you all today?”

“Something non-alcoholic and sweet for me,” Jade replied, looking over to the sibling as they gave their preferences, though Amy gave him an odd look.

“You against alcohol or something?” she asked, picking up her ale and giving a sip.

“Just don’t like getting drunk Bad stuff tends to happen when I do.” Amy let it at that as Jade picked up his drink, smiling at the fruit taste. “Hey, any way I can buy a barrel of this stuff?” he asked the bartender, the fox-like girl giving him a smile and pulling out a menu.

It took him a little while to decide which drinks he wanted barrels of, not wanting to have to get overcharged every time he wanted to go to a bar. He also decided to see if he could get some sand at the next town, knowing he could make glass mugs and potion bottles, wondering if he could make his own glass cups as well. He knew the furnace allowed him to make glass, but he wasn’t sure if he needed more skill in glass making before being able to make something custom with it.

After a few drinks and the barrels getting added to Jade’s inventory, the party paid and stepped up to the nearby counter, Yondol and Amy giving a kind of badge to the receptionist. Jade frowned at that, having not heard that he’d needed to be registered with the guild. “I… uh…” He looked awkwardly at Yondol, the elf giving him a confused look.

“Never signed up before?” the plain receptionist asked, noticing Jade’s growing panic. “Not a problem. You can get the rewards for spontaneous events just fine. You want to sign up? You should do fine on the tests, if you can handle the slime rain.”

“No thanks,” Jade replied, ignoring Amy and Yondol’s stares. The rest of the transaction was easy, Jade pulling out the slime chunks so the receptionist could see how many they killed. After getting paid a whopping 50 silver for their trouble, the three headed back to the bar, Yondol getting close.

“Another secret?” the elf whispered, Jade grimacing at his amused tone. “It’s fine. We can sign up when we go to another town yes? Don’t want you losing out on rewards.” Yondol clapped Jade on his back, Amy giving a sour look as her questions got avoided once again. “Anyway, we can hang out at the bar until nightfall. Should be less busy and we won’t be noticed then.”

As soon as the sun set, the trio left the guild hall, walking through the mostly empty streets to get back to the Plinth, Jade pulling out his mirror as they arrived. “Ready?”

“Ready,” the siblings replied, both grinning as all three linked hands. Once again, Jade touched the Plinth and activated the mirror, choosing the Ocean village as their next destination.

In a flash of light, the three were gone, none noticing the shadowy figure watching from an alleyway.

Once they arrived at their destination, all three looked around, the town once again looking the same as the last two, though the wood was an almost white color and the stone had been replaced with multi-hued bricks. Jade walked up to one of the buildings to take a closer look, as it almost looked like… Coral! They use the coral bricks here? He looked around excitedly at that, inspecting the walls carefully as the siblings mimicked his actions.

“Definitely want to source some of this,” Jade told them, both nodding before Yondol gave a large yawn.

“Should probably find an inn to sleep in for the night,” the elf stated, Amy and Jade nodding their heads in agreement. It took a few minutes to find a random passerby in the sandstone streets, getting directions to “The best inn in town!” though Jade was skeptical about that statement.

When they arrived, Jade quickly paid for a room each, the siblings looking shocked but Jade just gave them a shrug. “I have enough to handle it.” Once he found his room, his eyes passed over the coral decorated furniture before he fell right into the bed, soon passing out from the day’s excitement.
