Chapter 3 - At Home

Family Kazma, Jin, Barbara and James Page 19

At home – Earth

“Barbara, what in the world should we do? He is talking about becoming blind, recovering instantly and talking to light itself. We know he's special, but it's not normal for him to act out like this.” James said.

As they sat in their nice little kitchen, surrounded by pretty little pictures of them together as a family, cute frames holding pictures of a younger Jin The marble table in the middle of the room didn’t scream wealthy, but it showed they had enough money to go around. Their home has always had a luxurious smell with Barbara being into scented candles ever since she was a little girl.

Barbara tried to soothe her husband. “James calm down. He probably doesn't like the way the boys at school have been teasing him, and he just wants more attention from us.”

James wasn’t having it. “It’s one thing to be upset, but to lie to me..” It wasn’t like Jin, and he didn’t like it one bit.

Barbara sighed and said: “It’s completely normal for kids to be in their little fantasy-land, James. Maybe this situation is taking it a bit far, but we should be there for him support him in his creativity.”

James coughed and a tear rolled down his cheek. “What did they do to him? How could they be so rough on our little angel?”

Barbara softened as she saw James cry. “James, don’t you think you’re taking this too seriously?”

Just as Barbara uttered those words, Jin came around the corner.

“Dad? Why are you so sad?”

James tried to fake a smile at his son, but Jin saw through it. His dad was never one to try and be tougher than his emotions. Other kids may have had bullies as parents but Jin knew his dad was a gentle giant. He walked up to his father and hugged him. “I’m sorry about my accident, I won't use my Abilities again! I swear!”

Barbara frowned a little and asked Jin a question. “Jin, what do you mean Abilities?” James grimaced, knowing that their household would never be the same again.

Kazma Residence - Earth

After the explanation Jin gave about his Abilities, Skills and Resource Pools, his parents were in awe. How could a child explain these concepts, and numbers, with such ease? Even the concept of Mana and Focus, so detailed and convoluted, it would make an adult look like a kindergartner in comparison.

The next part was the demonstration of his Abilities.

This wasn't

Firstly, because he wouldn’t dare summon a wisp. That was because the last time he tried it; his vision was utterly and destroyed. He couldn’t, and wouldn’t show them this particular trick. He loved his parents dearly, after all, and wouldn’t wish any harm upon them, or himself again for that matter.

So, for his demonstration, he took a small scalpel-like knife from his pocket. Before his parents could stop him, he had already pricked his finger. It caused quite a bit of pain but he was ready to make this big sacrifice for his parents.

Jin softly whispered “Advanced Regeneration”, and his finger fully healed. The blood was still there but the tissue immediately stitched itself together and went through the stages of healing.

What Jin didn’t notice, was that all the scrapes and bruises he had accumulated over the last few days vanished as well. The tiny amount of Focus needed for these small injuries didn’t phase him that much and they definitely didn’t tax his huge resource pool. His Focus was back up to full in an instant.

As soon as his mother saw blood, she was ready to call a psychiatrist for her son. They wouldn’t be able to deal with this on their own if it was already this advanced.

But as soon as she tried to get a hold of her son, Jin asked her to calm down. “Mom, just give me a sec please?”

From the moment Jin started with this experiment, James was calm and didn’t move a muscle. The reason for this was that he already knew what this was. He had hoped his son would’ve started his development at an older age, ready to go into the world when his potential showed its head.

James agreed with his son and held out a hand to Barbara. “Just wait honey, please.”

Barbara couldn’t handle the suspense and yelled. “Okay! What would you like me to do, while our son is bleeding?”

Jin calmly said, after wiping his hand with the tissue he prepared for this moment. “Look, it’s like it was never even there.”
