Jin was a not so ordinary demi-god.

He had many things to do on a day. Things like kill fallen angels, help kittens from trees and make up new niche rules for physics. The latter was just to mess with physicists and their wonky lifestyle. He really didn't like that bunch, as they were always telling him what he could and couldn't do. "It would break time and space!", they said. 'It probably wouldn't', he thought as he had many mishaps before.

This story goes a lot deeper than moments like that, as we begin right at the beginning of his own story. The story of Jin and the Wisps.

School – Earth

Jin sat at his small school-table, surrounded by empty seats. His entire class was at recess, everyone was outside playing. Jin looked around and saw the familiar sight of his classroom, with bright drawings and paintings. The badly drawn monsters and dinosaurs. The woven blanket Miss Hardford used to give to children when they were upset.

Jin had been allowed to draw while he stayed inside. Drawing was his favourite and drawing shapes had been his most-most favourite lately.

But just as Jin finished his drawing of pretty circles and stars, a tiny wisp of light came to be. As this tiny wisp flew around his drawing, Jin felt a tiny bit of power coming into his head.

As he watched the wisp, the wisp watched him.

Moments later it flew into the spot Jins heart is.

At home - Earth

Jin was loving these Wisps!

Drawing them, talking to them and even letting them fly around before they flew into him.

If anyone would observe this child, they would think this was the apex of human accomplishment. Innate sorcery and in a child no less. Jin saw this as a normal afternoon.

But he continued drawing these wisps, and on his 12th try, as he put some real focus into it, two wisps came out of the drawing at the same time!

Jin was amused, he had his first ability! This was something he would definitely tell his parents when they got home. Happy with his ability, he put it to the test!

“Summon Wisp!”. As Jin said these words, his hands put out a small glowing aura, and as expected, his Wisp came forward.

Jin had to choose, what would his parents like more? He wanted to show them the coolest of the coolest trick, so he had to choose the coolest. He softly said to himself, “I want the coolest Wisp...”, while he looked at the options. He waited for a good 30 seconds before saying it clearer. “I want the coolest Wisp!”

“Wow! This is so cool!! My Wisp also has an ability! This will definitely impress my parents!” Jin thought ecstatically. He would for sure make a difference with this Ability.

Jin really wanted to try out his new ability! He used his ability, by saying it out loud. “Summon Cool Wisp!” Immediately after which his vision filled with information about his notification. His soul went numb for a small while. Jin was convinced that his summoning of the Wisp went pretty well.

Jin felt an urge to puke. The sensation was way too much for him. The mana flooded his spirit and soul like a wave of pure cosmic energy. Immediately Jin rushed to his bag, got his animal crackers and ate some to calm down. That made him feel better, after the first flash of discomfort, he knew his animal crackers would always be there for him.

He thought it to be better if he left the wisps and difficult numbers alone, for now, just as a little secret for himself to keep. He didn’t want to get in trouble, now did he?

At home – Earth

Jin felt at ease. His parents were making his favorite, hotdog spaghetti noodle dish. Although you could say he was picky about his meals. Hotdog spaghetti noodle dish however, he was a gourmet when it came to these things. A little too much ketchup and he would deny it outright, too much and his mom would have hell to pay. It wasn’t easy for him, having such a lousy chef, but he would make do.

Jin loved his parents, even with these small imperfections he noticed. He liked them a lot, and not just for what they did for him. They made him feel safe and appreciated. They even made him feel like a superhero sometimes. Not because of the Wisps, as he was yet to tell them about the ‘cool’ beings. He felt they might just get him in trouble. No, they would make him feel like a great explorer, for something as trivial as finding a worm outdoors. They made him feel like Picasso, for drawing some straight lines and sleek circles on a piece of paper. Even when he fell out of a tree, they made him feel like the toughest soldier coming out of a warzone after a year of combat. It was amazing to be Jin, with parents like his.

School wasn’t too great, but it wasn’t that bad either. I mean, you could say Jin wasn’t popular. He would always feel a little different than the other kids. He couldn’t describe what it was either. They didn’t make fun of him or anything, but there just wasn’t any connection between them. He would eventually find out just how different he was.
