At the EOD Building.

"Wonder wen Mackenzie's going to come back?" asked Sam

Jack replied, "I don't know. It's all because of your girlfriend's mother. Anyway I'm glad to be back at work. Better than sitting around the house doing nothing. Also, Sam? Do you know why I like the town of Clearlake?"

"Is it because of down-to-earth, friendly folks who'll play you some nice music and be very polite!" said Sam

Jack was about to reply but their boss at the EOD Clearlake office told them of a labor scam and with everyone else being on a case. Jack and Sam were told to investigate a labor dispute of people working in a mine but getting terrible pay or just not being on record.

Jack and Sam went to the Clearlake mines and went into the main office.

"How do you want to do this?" asked Jack

Sam replied, "As they taught us in the Marine Corps... The Shock and Awe way,"

"Before I continue," said Jack, "A. I'm not going to get a general purpose machine gun and you getting your M85 DMR. B. We're suppose to be investigating and see what's going on. But just keep a eye out!"

Sam did as he was told by his best friend and he kept a eye out and Jack went inside of the office and he opened a vanilla folder that's sitting out in the open. Jack opened it and it's as they were told the workers are being paid pennies on the dollar a hour and they're being paid two bucks a hour.

"Hey motherfucker what do you think you're doing!" said a angry male's voice.

Sam identified himself as a E.O.D. Agent which lead to a fist fight but due to Sam's training in the Marine Corps he easily defeated the guy.

"Hey Jack are you done in their?" asked Sam

Jack replied, "Yeah just finished. Found something interesting!"

Back at the EOD building the two sat at Jack's desk.

"Yup that's the most incriminating things," said Sam while reading a piece of paper

Jack replied, "Yeah having on paper that you're paying your employees a dollar a hour for eight hours a day is a violation of the 1972 Fair Pay Act. Miners have a minimum wage of $8.50/hr to maximum of $20.75/hr. I make $14/hr which is in middle of what's allowed of what we're allowed to be paid,"

"I make $17.40/hr ," said Sam

Jack replied, "Wait? What? How do you make three more dollars than me?"

"Because I'm the tactician of the two of us," said Sam, "You're more or less the dumb muscle and I think of plans that doesn't involve just shooting everything with my pistol,"

Jack replied, "That's straight up bullshit!"

"Yeah but I'm not the type to run and gun with a Tommy Gun like you," said Sam, "If we're in a gunfight I'm going to try and have them to give up or out smart them while you prefer to take a assault rifle and put rounds down range hoping to hit the bad guys! No wonder you were and are a Machine Gunner in the Marines"

Jack replied, "And I didn't have a crush on Mitchell's cousin Cassidy while in 'Nam. That was you. Why were you a Designated Marksman? Because you have 20/20 vision, and try to do things from range!"

"I was picked to be a Marksman," said Sam, "Because of my accuracy on the range! I got 95 out of a hundred. But look at Mitchell he has a accuracy of 100 out of 100 and he's a NCO and RTO! But let's get back to the case we're working on!"

Jack replied, "We'll finish this argument later. But yes let's get back to working this case,"

Sometimes i wish I took the civil servant test to be a firefighter, Sam thought, Can't change the past but just go on.

After a hour of reading.

"Come on Jack," said Sam, "Got a address. Let's go,"

Jack and Sam both checked their weapons before walking out of the roating door but when Jack got into the passenger seat next to the driver he hit his head on the door.

At a fancy two story house.

"Let's see what he has to say," said Jack who then hit his head again while getting out of the car.

Sam replied, "Yeah,"

There was a gunshot at them and the two used their car doors as cover and Sam and Jack drew their pistols and fired back.

Sam used the car's police radio to call for help but he also reloaded his 9mm Pistol while Jack covered him with his .357 Mk1 revolver until Jack went to the trunk of the car and retrieved the shotgun.

Another police car arrived and it was Mitchell and Starlight where the former drew his M1911A1 pistol and opened fire to cover his partner who drew her Phoenix pistol (M1911A1) and took cover behind Jack and Sam's car. But Starlight swapped to her back up weapon a P220 Elite.

"What are we doing here besides shots fired?" asked Officer Starlight

Sam replied, "Guy who owns the mines under paying the workers. We pulled up and he opened fired on us. Alright, Mitchell and Starlight will go around back we'll go through the front."

Mitchell and Starlight did go around back but Sam and Jack gave the two covering fire so they could go without getting shot or harmed. When the two got to the back Mitchell kicked in the door and when the gunfire wasn't focused on them then Jack and Sam went to the front door and went in.

No one was in the first floor but they splitted up with Starlight and Mitchell going down into the basement and Jack and Sam going upstairs but they had their guns drawn.

When Jack and Sam approached the top steps their was rapid gunfire which missed Sam by meer inches but he returned fire then let Jack get past him so he could shoot his shotgun.

Before Jack could fire the shotgun their was a dud and it was the guy they were after. Jack thinks Sam killed him but there's no bullet holes in them besides a scratch from Jack's .357 Mk1 revolver but wasn't fatal.

"Better go get the coroner," said Jack

Sam did and the autopsy would be done as soon as possible. Jack thinks Sam did kill him but Sam remained unfazed due to he killed others in war but it was in war and he was doing as he was told and instructed to do.

7:30 PM

Sam was at the EOD Building just filing out what happened when his girlfriend walked in with a place covered in tinfoil and asked how he was and Sam told her that he's fine but thinking how someone died and he doesn't know how.

Hailey was about to reply but the phone on his desk rang so he answered it and it was the coroner and the coroner told him that the guy died by suicide where he took some cyanide pills and he took a lot to make him drop dead instantly. That was a relief to Sam but he wrote it down and the coroner told Sam he'll send over a fax asap.

Hailey told Sam not to work to hard and she'll see him at home but she placed the plate down on his desk. He opened it where it's ground beef casserole with rice with cheddar cheese. He ate it but threw away the paper plate and tinfoil but kept the spoon.

Jack when home early but Sam went home at midnight but got up before Hailey did and went to work just looking through files but felt like if he kept reading his eyes would've bled but he got a headache but he ignored it and kept on going.

In the end the mines continued to operate but a new owner came in and took over and the miners got a higher pay.
