Chapter One Deja Vu

Chapter One Deja Vu

Deja Vu

“Get the fuck out, J”, a mildly annoyed deep voice states half between exhaustion and frustrated. The door opens automatically to reveal a powerfully built latino man with emp threading across his nose and on his cheeks and a modified topknot.

“Come on Jackie!” J whisper-shouted back. It came out far more whiny and higher than she wanted. She was not having a good day. She’d had a dull headache since she started dealing with Pepe’s bullshit actually.

“Nothin’ personal J, but you know what your brother is going to say”

“Fuck him! And Fuck you Jackie. Fucker ships me off to Atlanta, thinks he can just bring me back here and gets you to look after me like I’m some kinda pet, obediently following along with whatever he says.” J vinted starting out strong and ending in a near mumble.

“J you know it ain’t like that. He’s looking out for you. You fuck’d up then and this, this right here, is you fuck’n up worse.” Jackie responded, sounding every bit the big second brother she wished very much she did not have.

“I can handle myself, and this is my score!” J petulantly stated.

“Some score, stealing from Arasaka! Do you have a death wish?”

J fained getting out, only to suddenly grip the wheel and attempt to floor it. At which point the vehicle shorted itself out. Some Kabuki magic this piece of shit turned out to be! J raged internally while Jackie reached in to drag her bodily out and to her feet.

“That’s the security system, we gotta bounce now!”

As if to punctuate his statement, NCPD cruisers sped into the parking structure slamming on their brakes surrounding the parking space.

“NCPD drop your weapons”, a nonplussed recording played over the vehicles external speakers. While cops popped out of the vehicle, weapons trained on the pair.

“Stay where you are!” The female cop pointed her weapon at Jackie as he raised his hands in a calming manner.

“Hands where I can see them nice and slow.”

“On the ground MOTHERFUCKERS”

J and Jackie were then grabbed bodily by a pair of the Cops pinning the to the ground with one arm held locked behind their backs.

Lying flat on the ground J started to once again feel a sense of deja vu. She had been feeling it since she saw Pete at the bar and now it seemed to be accompanied by a growing migraine.

“Jackie Welles, my old pal from the hood. See you haven’t grown an ounce wiser.”

“Hey, ‘grunt’ detective Stints. Been a while huh?”

J’s migraine grew more pronounced, accompanied by a strong sense that she’d seen this all before to the point she could even remember what would happen before it happened.

Inspector Stints

Same Shit

Speaking of your mugs familiar too

“Inspector Stints”

“Same Shit”

“Speaking of your mugs familiar too”

Her mind blanked. As she mumbled on autopilot, “How bout’ that a pig that chatters.”

Left for Atlanta, looking for a slice of…

“Got into some shit with that Valintino boy you gutted and your brother sent you packin’ to Atlanta. Fell in with those Slicer Nomads, how’d that work out?”

She blanked once again as the dialogue didn’t match up.

“Fuck you” She blurted with some heat as what he said registered.

“Oh, yeah the slicers got diced. Funny how trouble seems to follow you. ” Ignoring J’s hate filled glare as he continued as he bent down looking her in the eye.

I’ve always maintained it’s the same for all you termites in Heywood. Born her, live here, die here.

“I’ve always maintained it’s the same for all you termites in Heywood. Born her, live here, die here”, Stints continued looking off into the distance.

It’s not the same. She thought. The situation is the same, everything matches up… accept me.

Her mind seemed to simmer.

“Looks like I was right.”

“Rat got you tong…”

“Enough of the chatter, what now?”

“Gettin’ booked, gonna do a stint~ heh, get it?”

“Hey, c’mon Stints ‘grunt’ ”, Jackie cut in. “Give us a break, huh. You lock us up, we’ll just jerk off till trial, and then what?”, Jackie continued with a bland tone. “Worst case, we get some months. Hell standing room only in el bote, we’ll probably get out early.”

“Are these the thieves?”, A sophisticated Japanese accented voice seemed to command silence, as a small asian man entered J’s line of sight. Dressed in fine Arasaka silks, there was no question who the owner of this car was. J cursed silently as the situation just got more complicated but she seemed unmoved. She could tell how this was going to play out.

Looking down he scoffed as he inspected his would-be carjackers. “Ordinary, street trash.”

“Fuck he’s here.” Stints whispered barely audibly to J’s hearing.

Stint snapped to standing facing the Arasaka corpo, head slightly bowed hands on his belt. “Got ’em in custody Mr. Fujioka. We’ll be taking ‘em now.”

“It’s a waste of effort. I have no time to testify or play at an investigation.”, Fujioka replied disdainfully.

“Are you suggesting we let ‘em go sir?”, Stint replied with incredulity.

“I am suggesting you toss them into the sea. Cuffed, legs broken so this trash doesn’t float”, Fujioka replied, turning and walking away at speed. Confident his orders will be followed.

Sighing, Stints turned “You heard him.”

“Fuck” was the last thing she heard from Jackie as J was knocked unconscious when a metal baton smacked her in the face.

J came back to herself sitting in an alley with Jackie. “Honestly, for a second there things looked iffy. Wasn’t sure we’d worm out of that alive.”

“Tell that bastard Stints, the next time Jacobs smacks me in the face with a baton I am going to make him eat it.”, Reaching up she grabbed her nose and set it back in place, for the second time that day, with an audible crunch.

“Easy there J, you know he had to make it look real.Stints wouldn’t do us like that without a reason.”

“You sure about that Jackie”

“He’s Heywood born and bred, he hates those suits as much as you do, but that was an Arasaka exec. What the fuck were you thinkin’?”

The story has been illicitly taken; should you find it on Amazon, report the infringement.

“Yeah, yeah rub it in. I was just doing a job.”

“A job? Who for, we both know the fixers around here ain’t going after an Arasaka for something as small as a boost.”

“From Kirk, I got the job to steal those wheels from Kirk” She answered in a small voice.

“J we taught you better than that, you're working for that slug!? Haru is going to beat my ass”, Jackie ranted pacing back and forth.

“He doesn’t have to know about this.” She cut in quickly. J definitely did not want her over protective gang’r brother getting involved. Bad enough he made her look like a bitch when he shipped her out to Atlanta, this would be the end of her rep.

“Yeah, we’ll see. Why are you workin’ for that slimy bitch, you know he can’t be trusted.” Jackie sat next to him.

“I didn’t exactly have much choice.”

“What the fuck does that mean.”

“Pepe owes him big and can’t afford to pay. So I kinda stepped in.”

“Pepe as in your choom who’s bartending? Why’s he lettin’ Kirk boss him around like that.”

“His little brother, Luis, got sick. Had to pay for treatment. Kirk was the only one who’d lend him shit. I mean Luis is only twelve. How else is Luis going to cover a doc, you know they took one look at him and said it cash up front.”

“Sigh, yeah. Yeah I know. Why’s he letting Kirk boss him around like that.”

“You heard what they say, he’s backed by cartels.”, J shot back in a questioning way.

“Kirk? No, no, listen, I know those cartel types, and I can guarantee you none of ‘em have even heard of Kirk. I’ll staight’n this out. El cabron gotta learn… you don’t do people in Heywood dirty.” Standing up he reached down, grabbed J’s hand and pulled her back to her feet.

“Come on, let’s go have some lunch”

“Just like that?”, she questioned

“Just like that.”

“You're not going to tell Haru are you?”

“That depends.” He stated.

“On what?”, she questioned warily.

“I got this car that needs some repairs. Oh and T-bug could use some assistance with some coding project, said she could use a hand debugging, or some shit.”

“Sigh, I’m going to be doing bitch work for a week aren’t I”

“Prob’ly more like a month so settle in.”

Jerking his neck causing it to crackle. “Come on I’m fuck’n starving.”

“Well I could go for one of Mama Welles famous Enchiladas.”

“Damn straight. Her Chilli sauce is fire”, annoyed deep voice states half between exhaustion and frustrated. The door opens automatically to reveal a powerfully built Latino man with emp threading across his nose and on his cheeks and a modified topknot.
