Chapter 4.5 : Break

Chapter 4.5 : Break

Liya POV

"My name is Liya. I'm 4 this year!" I stretched my hands out and made a... 4! with my fingers. Papa and mummy looked happy. I was also happy that they were happy. We are all happy together! My uncles and aunties looked happy as well as they stroked my head. We were all very happy.

Then suddenly, there was this loud boom and aunty and uncle looked outside the window. Liya knows of the loud booming sound. It was whenever the skys turned dark. But today, the skies are all blue and pretty.

"Are thoese...mo..moo..." my aunty stuttered.

"GET LIYA UPSTAIRS" Daddy's loud shout made me afraid. I wanted to cry.

I found myself in mummy's hug. It was super nice and comfortable. Liya really likes it when she gets hugged. I wish that I can be hugged everyday.

As mummy carried me upstairs, I could see mean monsters bursting in from the back door. I have seen them before in cartoons and games, they are bad monsters that want to hurt people!

They wanted to hurt my Papa! "STOP" I screamed as loudly as I could for mummy to stop, but she wouldn't listen to me! She continued to run up the stairs...

Mummmy hurriedly pushed me into the wardrobe in my bedroom. It was big and Liya liked to hide here whenever we played hide and seek at home.

"Sweetie, let's play another game of hide and seek okay? You must keep quiet and not come out until mummy says so" mummy told me. I'm a super good girl so I listen to Mummy. But Liya needed to pee.

I nodded and told Mummy okay. Mummy then attempted to head towards the door.

I could hear papa scream and shout along with uncle and aunty downstairs. What happened? Did the monsters get them? I can't help but start shaking. Papa is the strongest so he will be okay...

I hurriedly hid as deep inside of the wardrobe as I can. But I could see Mummy outside as the door flung open. A bunch of horrible lizard-like creatures came in. They pushed Mummy down onto bed and made horrible sounds. Then a giant monster with a huge sword appeared and cut off their heads, it stopped the evil lizards from bullying mummy. Then its sword headed for Mummy.

Mummy's head rolled onto the ground.

Liya did her best to keep quiet. Mummy will call her to come out. So Liya kept hiding.

The Unknown has taken an interest in you.

Liya did her best to stop making noise. Liya could hear her heartbeat. It was loud. Liya tried to make it sound quieter. I held my breath and tired all I could. Liya had to be as quiet as Mummy so that she will call Liya.

Mummy wasn't making a single sound. Even though her eyes were open. Mummy was quiet.

Liya saw the sun go down. Liya was a good girl. Liya made sure she didn't make any sound. Liya was as quiet as her Mummy now. But Mummy still didn't call her. Was she mad that Liya took so long to keep quiet?

The Unknown remarks your talent.

The Unknown gives you his blessings.

"You are annoying" I didn't like the blue screen.

The Unknown assures that he is here to help.

The Unknown urges you to leave the wardrobe.

You have gained a new Skill: Thin Presence(S)

Liya couldn't understand the hard words. Liya will continue to stay in the wardrobe until her Mummy called her. Then the whole place started to shake and Mummy started coming towards me. Her head turned and turned as she headed towards me in the wardrobe.

"Mummmyyy" I cried out as I left the wardrobe. "I was a good girl" I told Mummy, but she didn't answer me. Mummy looked super pale and I know that Mummy is sick, I needed to find a doctor to help her.

I carried Mummy in my arms. I needed to find a doctor.

Walking around, I found Papa, uncle and aunty sleeping. They didn't respond to my calls. I walked forward. I kept walking ahead and calling out to people. The moment they saw me, they screamed and ran away. Why will no one help me and mummy?

I was walking and walking. The sun had already began to rise. I saw an uncle covered in blue. "Hey" I called him, hoping that he will help.

The uncle crouched down and hugged me. I felt warm. It was relaxing. I liked the feeling. "You're alright now" the uncle had a really nice voice. He reminded me of papa. Mummy's hug was really warm too...

Normal POV

I found myself washing off the blue liquid on my body. I could see the young girl next to me doing the same, as she scrubbed against the red liquid on her body. The soap smelled like lavender. Here I was, with an unknown child, rinsing off the blood of some monster in a stranger's house.

The child who was soaked in her mum's dried blood was awfully quiet. She must have alot to think about.

Turning on the tap, the cold water washed away my sweat, dirt and all the blood. It felt refreshing having the cold water flow down my back. I looked at the child next to me and decided to help her wash the liquids away. Taking some soap into my hands, I scrubbed away gently on her bruised arms, body and legs.

A little while after, I could see her shiver from the coolness of the water. The child seemed to have a lot to say while staring at the liquid flowing into the drains.

"Uncle" I hear her begin to speak.

"I'm hungry"

Letting out a relieved sigh, I hurried up and brought her out of the showers. We dried ourselves using the towels nearby and begin to wore clothes. As her clothes were still being hung out to dry, I just had her wear an oversized t-shirt as a makeshift dress. She had a short Bob cut with red hair and a cute looking face. However, her eyes seemed rather lifeless and sometimes I couldn't help but to loose track of her.

I wore a plain white T-Shirt and long jogger pants that the previous owner of the house owned. Looking through the kitchen, I found some canned tuna and bread. I offered it to the child who quickly gobbled it up. It was quite a sight to see as she devoured her meal. She noticed my gaze and attempted to offer me some of her bread. I petted her on the head and told her to carry on eating.

"What's your name?" I asked her.

"My name is Liya. I am 4 this year!" she exclaimed with tears in her eyes. I smiled as I gently stroked her head. She soon started to cry and kept repeating that she was a good girl. I felt my heart twist into a knot. There was a sour taste in my mouth as I looked at the girl. There were probably many other children out there in a similar state...

I wasn't some hero that would go around finding them and taking them in. It was already hard surviving by my own. Liya continued to eat her meal after recovering a little.

I stood up and looked around the house in search of bandages or any ointment that could be applied onto her wounds. I noticed a tug on my pants and saw Liya gripping my pants tightly. She was a strange child. Her footsteps were so silent that you couldn't even hear it when you were nearby. She had this almost vanishing presence as if she was just part of the natural environment around you. It was hard to tell if she was even breathing at all...

"I'm not going anywhere, don't worry" I told her, but she continued to hold on tight. Feeling quite embarassed because of her cute behaviour. I then decided to just carry her in my arms. Her legs were bruised and cut from the debris and overuse. Walking should have been horribly painful for her.

I managed to find some plasters and a first aid kit stored at the corner in the kitchen. I should have really tended to her wounds first shouldn't I? I could only lament at my oversight and lack of concern for the child. Asking her to sit at the sofa, I kneeled down next to her and began to apply the ointment. Then it disappeared, vanishing into thin air as a blue box appeared.

You have used an arnica based cream! Target's health has improved! (12>20)

The message surprised me and some of the bruises on her legs glowed and disappeared. It made me curious, as I asked her to show me her status.

"Can you say the word "status"?" I asked her, as she tilted her head.

"Stae tas?" she responded.

Status

Health: 20(30)

Mana: 110(130)

Condition: Injured

Title: Legendary Talent

Skills

Thin Presence (S)

Endurance (D)

Mana Breathing (A)

Blessing: The Unknown

There was a skill highlighted in yellow. I didn't know why, but her status was truly outrageous for a 4 year old. She had 13 times the amount of mana I had. Even her title was praising her talents. I took out a bandage from the first aid kit and placed it next to her.

You have used a bandage! Target's health has improved (20>30)

It seemed that the system would automatically apply the healing and treated the first aid kit as if it was an item.

You have fully restored the health of another person!

Title gained: Healer

I found it funny that the system was awarding me for healing another person. The system seemed to be reacting more frequently these days. It was as if it was getting more ingrained to our world.

Number of divine beings watching you: 0

The messaged popped out of nowhere. It was strange. Until this point, the system was almost unreactive.

"Uncle" Liya called out to me. She looked completely different now that she was healed. The scars were gone from her body and she had a much better complexion on her face.

"Thank you" she said. I saw a face a child shouldn't be making and decided that she should take a break for the rest of the day. Bringing her to a bed on the 2nd floor, I made sure that she fell asleep and was comfortably tucked into bed.

I could hear my stomach growl while I looked at the setting sun in the distance. Half a day had passed since I killed the goblins. We were now far enough that I couldn't see the destroyed mall. Around the house was another 2 streets of landed properties followed by office buildings, malls and shops surrounding the area.

I needed to procure food, water and a bag to carry them as we moved. The house was rather empty, with the only saving grace being the lack of monsters around. I'm not sure if it would be wise to travel with a child towards my friend's house, in fact, I didn't know if it would be even safe to do so. Perhaps it was better here than anywhere else?

Looking at Liya comfortably asleep in bed, I decided that I'll do all the searching and traveling tommorow. For now, I should get some rest as well.

Sitting on the ground and leaning against the bed, I closed my eyes. Letting the exhaustion and fatigue take me, I could feel my sore muscles relaxing. The hunger in my stomach gnawed at me for a moment before the tiredness finally took me away.
