Chapter 8: EMERGENCY!

Chapter 8: EMERGENCY!

"SOMEONE TURN THAT GOD DAMMED ALARM OFF ALREADY!" screamed the tuxedo-wearing orc.

For once he was an imposing figure in the middle of the room (Not really), the room in question was in a complete and utter chaos, even if the people in the middle of it looked calm.

All around people were running from one workstation to the next carrying holopads with all kinds of information.

For their part, the people at the table with the orc were quieter. The black-haired woman was just scrolling on her holo screen while several mechanical ants were awaiting their turn to give her new data "Not here either..." she was scrolling on the logs searching for something and sending away mechanical ants to other members of her staff so they could also double check her findings....or the lack of them. To be fair it wasn't on her normal work to search for a needle in a cosmic barn. And these logs had too much information for the small amount of time they had to comb through them.

To her left was a blue-haired beauty "This one is also clean" For her part she was looking into the medical files of the workers on site, even though her work was mostly on genetics, she still had a minimal amount of medical knowledge to find faults on their files, and these files had enough data to make a first world top of the line hospital feel like a clinic on the slums. Extra points for those who had the complete tracing of their bodies done already. Since they had more info than needed.

"...." To the right of the black-haired professor was quiet, almost as if no one was there, not the blonde kid, nor his assistant. Or at least not a current one, since right now a petite woman was sitting there combing through the data sent her way from Lab 2.

It was Jennifer the old assistant of Alexanders, since she used to work for him they had delegated her to do that work. She already knew most of it since she had spent most of the time 'Debugging' and 'Fixing leaks' or so that kid said in their meetings.

Of course "I told you all he wouldn't live to the level of work we expect of a leader of a Laboratory" the usually ignored head of Lab 3 said "Why would they put a kid on that spot...Now he doesn't even come to help us fix this!" and usually he would be ignored too.

But since the situation was critical "If you can do his work, we don't mind giving that spot to you" said the normally calm blue-haired beauty of lab 1.

"I wouldn't mind giving you all our slots on the priority list if you can give us a timetable for fixing this either" The black-haired woman from lab 1 also added her part.

"And of course, I wouldn't mind sending you to the bottom of the barrel if you don't live up to those expectations Mister Williams" came the orc to finish the conversation "We don't have the time for petty jealousy if that counter reaches 0% we are done. No power on this planet will save us." said the orc while pointing a holo screen on the middle, it had started going down a few hours ago and now hovered around 1% with a few extra decimals going down and up continuously.

"If you all finish bickering I wouldn't mind a few extra hands around here ♪~ " came like a savior from the heavens the voice from a new mechanical ant that landed on the table, it showed a blonde kid with an oversized white lab coat "Kinda need more workers since the guys from Labs 8 & 9 weren't enough" this blonde kid looked out of place in the picture, couldn't have more than 12 years but still was ordering all kind of clerks around and had tons of holo screens around him while speaking to the round table.

Of course, said the kid was the youngest prodigy in the world and currently head of Lab 2 in the site 'Alexanders', and while the complaints of having a kid holding the same level of power as a grown-up adult on the site were expected, he had done more than enough to justify his spot on the site. He did have enough experience as most of the senior scientists on the site. And knew enough of his fields to device their current safeguard to their impending doom.

Even if said safeguard was currently below 1% efficiency and going down...Even if said safeguard was about to fail dooming them all. But they believed in his work and most of the labs were willing to lend him aid, they trusted in him to fix it. After all....what kind of brother wouldn't do his utmost to protect his little sister?

They all knew that since his little sister lived in the middle of ground zero he would do his best to keep the safeguard online...But why does his little sister live on ground zero? How did a 12-year-old have the experience to use almost 20-year-old equipment as if he had it since its release? Why does that matter anyway?

All those kinds of silly questions are boring after all!

Who cares anyway?

Alexanders knew all that stuff cuz he is smart!

As expected of Alexa's big brother!

Yes, all is how it was supposed to be! Nothing weird here at all!

"OF COURSE IT'S WEIRD YOU IDIOT!" screamed Alexanders to the heavens.

"You okay bossman? Want more mango juice or something?" said a muscle head assistant inside the holo screen, of course, they didn't have time to deal with the weird shenanigans of Alexanders.

"We will send helpers from Lab 3 since they are the ones with less work." said the orc into the screen before dismissing it. They didn't have time to deal with this after all.

They might not have enough time to update their wills either at this pace. "We might need to go into the site and deal with...that thing again." said the Orc, they all looked at him like he was going mad. And since the screen showed how the counter was finally going below the 1% and coming close to the 0% they understood it too

"....do we really have to go... Everyone? I could stay to monitor stuff from this side..." said the head of Lab 3.

Not a single one of them wanted to deal with...That.....

Not even Professor Eversoul, and she went into the site on a daily basis, her room was there like Professor Kellet "...Do we send Alexa a message so she can leave the house?" asked Professor Eversoul.

"Shouldn't be necessary" said the petite aide of Professor Kellet "If Alexander's theory is right they might be waiting for you already" and then she showcased his screen.

There was a video feed of a little girl trying to outrun a red floating screen while covering her ears, she was running in circles in the living room with her eyes closed. It was amazing the level of nimbleness she had since she was dodging plushies, chairs, and a foot table. They couldn't read what the red screen said, but it was obvious that one wasn't one of their holo screens.

For starters, their holoscreens didn't look solid enough. And that one didn't have an anchor point from where it was being projected, it looked like it was tethered to the little girl, but no connection between the two could be seen.

"So we must go, all of us...Someone send a message to Alexanders, we will meet with him on site in 20" said the orc before standing and going out of the room.

Neither Professor Eversoul nor Kellet didn't had much to do for their preparations "...We should pick up the stuff that we left in the office, if we are going home early we should at least bring our stuff" Said the black-haired woman.

"...Not sure what that will help, but sure," said the blue-haired beauty, she only gave a single nod to the petite assistant before leaving, said assistant was writing messages to Alexanders telling him to return to the site as soon as possible. They knew he would most likely have to run while working on his holo pad, so he had to be ready to move his work. That would annoy the kid without a doubt, so the petite assistant had a smile on her face...

For his part, if they were going to deal with that thing "I....will see you guys later, must go and grab a few things from my locker" said the normal-looking head of Lab 3, they all knew what he was going to get from his locker...And they all knew it was a meaningless effort. It didn't work before and even after all those iterations it most likely wouldn't work now. But a man had to do what a man had to do...Even if that was using a personalized handheld railgun to try and kill the closest thing to a god humankind had found in the last millennium.

"LALALALA CAN'T HEAR YOU, LALALALA CAN'T SEE YOU" For her part the little girl was still running away from reality....Or running away with reality? Nowadays the difference was negligible. She didn't like when Grandma was in these kinds of moods "You can't do this today! We were going to the amusement park this Sunday!" of course, this wasn't the only reason for his tantrum.

And of course, she knew, they all knew, that's why her twin brother was working so hard!

To make time!

To Have fun!

To enjoy family life!

That's the reason momma worked hard even though her original work wasn't supposed to be on Lab 1 but on the extra labs!

She didn't even want to be on this side of the site, to begin with!

It was all Grandma's fault!

If not for her and her weird inception thingy they wouldn't have to deal with all of this, granted Auntie was already on this side of the site...So was her brother...They didn't even suffer that much...And her twin brother kinda enjoyed more of his work after it...And Momma and Auntie said he was their only hope...." We are kinda screwed aren't we?" said the little girl getting just a little out of character.

But even so, the little girl had faith!

She believed!

She believed that her twin brother would come and save the day!

He had mysterious ways to deal with problems after all!

He always seemed to have an answer to everything, so she would have faith "Brother will find a way, he is like that! " said confidently the little girl once again in the right character setting "He is just like a cockroach in this type of case!" if nothing else, the little girl was brimming with confidence in his rather rude statement.

But on the other hand, Grandpa was confident in his plans, so the little girl couldn't help but be worried, especially if that screen was telling the truth.

Notice:

System saturation achieved critical levels, system will start turning offline in 15 mins

That didn't look good, not good at all "Can you take this away Grandma ?" asked the little girl "It kinda annoys me..." It was kinda of annoying and running in circles in the living room while fun, kinda lost its meaning if they weren't paying attention to her anymore, she had her fun annoying mister pig after all...Well, he wasn't a pig anymore, but an orc now.........Not that it mattered much though. He was a fine Orc now and she liked him better this way (Not really).
