Chapter 15: What is a king to a god?

Chapter 15: What is a king to a god?

His machination had worked, it took him almost 40 years of small proddings all in the right spots but he had done it at least.

He had made the purple girl waste too much causality in one go, it seemed that she couldn't see him as clearly as everyone else, nor could read his environment and the people around him. Anything that was directly related to himself was safe, but he had to have an effect on it, he also needed to have a plausible cause to be involved in that. If these two weren't obvious or clear to at least one person that also had an effect on the stuff he wanted to make immune then it was meaningless. He was too old to deal with this kind of problem. He might be almost a hundred years old, and he might not look like he was over forty years old.

But he still had to deal with some problems, so to be able to deal with this one after so many problems was something to celebrate, he had managed to deal with the biggest problem in his life... At least for now. He didn't know how much time he had, so for now he had to rush it.

For starters he would get the employees out of the way "Contact and recruit the people on the list I am sending you, you need to get everyone ready to work in less than a week" said Alexanders into his interphone to his most recent aide, a blonde girl from some branch of the clan, they came in a double pack so he was using them quite well.

"Sir, these are the top scientists of the world in their fields...And the second best...And the third best...Would you rather I just get all the current Nobel prize winners, their assistants, and the cleaning staff of their laboratories?" she was getting kinda cheeky nowadays so he might just send her into the new black site he would build.

"Also contract builders and architects to prepare the laboratories in the blueprint I just mailed you" he would need the laboratory ready as fast as possible, can't make a new lab if the purple girl is around and can mess with the causality. He wouldn't allow another new lab to be erased from existence just because he wanted to see if the crystal could be used as a power source.

"Sir...These are planes for a massive underground complex, we would need to contract almost all the workers in the capital..." Maybe he would need to adjust the training they got these days.

"I don't see a problem there, just pay them to triple the amount of any work they are doing right now and add the usual fees for fast work" Kids these days, only see problems and not solutions.

In his times...Well, he would probably say the same if he was on that side, but since he was on the side with power and money he would just flex it to solve all the problems that came his way, what was the point of money and power if you didn't flex it at times like this.

"Prioritize the central spire and top floor, then dig all the way to the bottom and build from the bottom to the top, the base must be able to survive if any part of it disappearing overnight, " he was lucky with all the extra causality he was leeching from the purple girl, but he wouldn't risk it "And when the bottom floor is build, move the P sample into the central vault" And since both himself and the crystal would be there, one couldn't be too sure about when problems would arise. If that girl made a ruckus then he needed that base to be able to survive any part of it just disappearing. At least till he knew how to deal with her.

He would move all at once, the important thing was the bottom floor where the ten important laboratories would be, only one or two mattered in this instance, Laboratory 0 which would develop weapons out of this weird crystal that had given him this kind of body. And next to it, Laboratory 1 would try to understand how his body had changed. Of course, neither would know their true goal.

The first one was easy to deal with since there were tons of scientists making a living out of weapon manufactury, the second one would be tricky. There was already someone he had in mind for that work, but she was the descendant of the people that made him like this. Vivian Kellet.

And off-shot of the saintsworth that never was recruited into the fold. No one of that off-shot was brought back into the fold under Alexander's directives, he didn't want to deal with another backslash from the purple girl meddling around. But she was among the best, so he would risk and adopt her into the fold for now.

He would need to pick a laboratory and a good excuse to mingle among the rabble too. Maybe he would pretend to be working on some top-secret project? Perhaps he would be able to work on his personal project and make the next advance for mankind? He did have some ideas lying around and what to do.

The other 7 scientists...didn't really matter that much in this setting, so he would hazard most of them. Maybe iterate some laboratories to have backups in case the purple girl awoke faster than expected.

"Start preparing the backups, they will be running the place for a few years" he needed to deal with the most troublesome things first.

"Sir...The successors of the main branch will be annoyed if you call them backups" Of course, his assistant would find trouble with that.

"Just because you are also a descendant doesn't mean I think of you as a backup" he needed to scold her more, she was indeed getting cheeky "You are more important than them" Still, she was useful, and pretty too, maybe it wasn't that bad to hire these twins "You are eye candy and useful, so you don't need to mind them that much, they are only somewhat useful" for her part the petite blonde didn't bat an eye to his harassment.

"Sir, nowadays CEOs can't get away with harassment" She still defended her honor though.

"Oh right, all that nonsense of rights for the less powerful. Agend a date with HR and tell them to prepare good arguments and penalties for me, and inform my accountant that he needs to find a woman's right group to donate a few billion" How the times changed, only a couple of decades ago his friends could mess around with their aides and the aide's daughters. He never found the taste for it, which was good since half of them got killed by said daughters in the end.

But that didn't matter since those were more an acquaintance than a true friend, can't make friends if they notice you don't get old. And half of them thought of him as the son of his last persona. He wasn't even trying to use new names nowadays either. The Internet made sure to discredit anyone that brought the 'He is a vampire' or 'He looks like this kid that was messing around in the First and Second World War'. Who would believe someone could look the same as 80 years ago after all?

Stolen story; please report.

Not him, that's for sure.

September came and went away, the year was almost over but he was almost ready to start at the very least.

He was somewhat worried about the windows that started showing around more often than before, but at least the purple girl wasn't here, he still felt the connection to her, even if somewhat dimmed by the distance, but he needed the new black site to be secured and away from humanity.

So he did the normal thing and shoved it into the arctic pole. You can't be more isolated than that.

It was troublesome to get so many installations there but at the very least it was secure, the personnel was dealt with too since the last interview where done. He had a few surprises along the way since at the end not only he ended with a descendant of the Kellets, but also with one of the Williams. Isn't this a small world?

He also dealt with the surface laboratories, well only one, but that was the only important anyway, Professor Eversoul promised to be interesting at the very least. Now he only needed to deal with this before the purple girl awoke again.

It wasn't going that bad, granted the first five years were annoying since most of the people on site knew who he was and he had to pretend to be the aloof persona he had been cultivating to deal with the political parts of his life. If he knew beforehand that creating a city would make his life harder in the long side, he would have delegated that part to one of his minions from the elder's successors.

The next five weren't that bad, people got more used to seeing him around. But nothing for it, at the very least it was time to see if the weapon testing was successful or not, so he had some hopes for this.

Even if the most surprising weapons weren't from Laboratory 0 but from Laboratory 1.

Who would think that woman would be able to make a biological weapon out of the crystal geodes he gave her. She made them fast enough too.

And for some reason each time a new one was born his link to the purple girl grew fainter, it seems that these...Things... were leeching her energy somehow. So he didn't mind them that much.

"Test Subject P3, go into the chamber" even if these weren't cute at all.

Little hideous monsters all of them, even at this iteration it wasn't cute at all "Who is a good girl? Who is a good girl? Yes you are!" and the folks of the upside Laboratory somehow got in here again.

These were crazy "Why is it a cat?" and that Eversoul woman wasn't any different "I told you to make it anything but a cat" For some forsaken reason she kept coming in here.

Wasn't this a black site? Weren't they aware that this was classified?

And all she cared about was brutality against cats? Wasn't she against weapon development?

They had all lost their marbles somewhere along the way.

"Sir, whatever you are thinking, you are probably the cause of it" and his aide was still being unhelpful as always. At least he had managed to get rid of one of these pair of cheeky sisters by sending her as a spy into Lab 1.

Not that he got anything useful out of it.

"The test subjects evolve on their own following the memory from the previous iteration and their understanding of how to be more successful on their task at hand" Gotta keep the charade "So since MOST of the viewing crew in their testing kept talking about such nonsense of how cute the cat of their daughter was, the test subject decided that a feline model was the most efficient way to survive in the long run" even if nowadays they didn't make much fuss about his presence and the nature of the project he was running on his own laboratory.

It was fun in its own way seeing them wondering why no member of Lab 2 was ever around. They wanted to ask so much but they didn't do it for fear of being expelled from the site. The only members they knew were himself and the twins Sarah and Jennifer after all. And of those, Jennifer wasn't even a member of his laboratory anymore.

"To be fair, it is more effective at dodging attacks using the feline model, don't know why it thought a crustacean model would be more effective at repelling high caliber rounds from the bolters," said his always problematic aide. Why does he keep her around?

*chuckles* Oh right, she was there to make the jokes he couldn't make since he had to keep the persona of the aloof scion of the most powerful conglomerate in the world.

The next one he would ditch all to the nine heavens and cultivate a jackass clown, he needed a few decades to release stress from dealing with the purple girl.

...it was a mistake.

No, not a mistake "It was a misunderstanding!" yes, it was all a bloody misunderstanding.

That thing wasn't a girl, why did he think it was a girl?

He was too confident in his own criteria, and since no one dared to say otherwise he didn't notice the problems in his reasoning.

But it was way too late to deal with this problem "Sir...The program reported another loss" his aide didn't even make bad jokes nowadays.

He didn't want to see "So we lost Africa, not that any of you know what that is any more" the blonde couldn't even pretend to care about the looks he was getting.

They all knew something was amiss but couldn't point to what it was "I will give you a clue, it has to do with the skin color of the guard of Laboratory 5" They all looked at the tall and muscular black guy on the camera, but couldn't pinpoint the problem in his skin color. Of course, that was hilarious for Alexander who couldn't control himself and was laughing "An extra clue, why is he black and you all are white?" it looked almost for a second, for a glorious second they all had the face of realization.

But it faded quickly enough. They couldn't tie in the little details, of course, they couldn't

At least not with that screaming in the background.

Not that they could hear it "Okay class, next clue~" he really didn't care anymore "How many labs do we have and what are their numbers?~" he would need a serious miracle to fix this.

"We have only one sir, yours. Laboratory 2" He only pointed at the map of the site "Then what are those other spots on the map?" aaaand he broke them again.

"That isn't a map of this place," said the black-haired woman who still was around for some reason, she was on a corner trying to nurse a yellow cat.

"Granted the design of this place could accommodate for that, but you don't have enough qualified people for that many laboratories, with the people here you only got enough for maybe one extra laboratory" added the blue-haired best friend of Eversoul.

"Also, the program finished debugging" finished the woman before going back to a corner to continue trying to help the black-haired woman.

Not that this has many chances of working.

"Really, it was all just a silly misunderstanding...For what is worth it. I'm sorry" said the blonde man before loading a chip into a weird-looking gauntlet.

His left hand donned a gauntlet that was of a blue metal with some silver lines running all the way to the elbow "Really sorry about this kiddo" On his right hand had another gauntlet, it was a mirror design to the left, the only difference was the blue was changed with red, and the silver lines were of a deep black.

For the first time since that almost fateful day 96 years ago, he was praying to the nine heavens and four hells for another miracle.

Praying for this to work. And praying for forgiveness from the purple-haired girl "Don't hate me too much for this, didn't really leave me with a choice" and there it was.

Not the weird looks most of the people were giving him, but the world answering his call at least.

"Just like I remember" A world in gray tones, all gray with a few exceptions of course.

For one he still had color and his gauntlets were giving off electric discharges, on his left they had a toned-down purple color, almost magenta. On his right, it was a strong yellow color. And while that combination should give a reddish color, for some reason when they interlaced it turned...Blue.

Besides himself, in the sky, there were two windows, but they weren't displaying anything. Almost as if they were asleep.

He remembered those two bickerings when he got infused with the crystal infusion, but now they were quiet. He could understand them since the purple girl in the background was still trashing around.

"Nothing more to do now I guess..." but he was stalling, he could see the world disappearing one person at a time, one continent at a time, one more being at a time. And it was soon coming for him too.

He was sure he could survive that but wasn't that sure of how long he could survive in a dead world, so while placed both hands on the cat that no longer had the two professors nursing, since they like everything else were turning into dust and disappearing. He just said "System Start" and with a bright flash of blue light, his conscience dimmed out.

Maybe next time he would be more careful with how he dealt with cosmic entities that could erase people on a whim.

Not likely, but it was a nice thought to have before facing the closest thing he knew to a god.
