3 - A night to remember

3 - A night to remember

Silas and Renult finally arrived at the gates of Glassthread village, but something seemed different, the whole place was in motion preparing for something big.

Renult went to ask the nearest labourer he could find.

“Oh you must be travellers then? Today is the day of the banquet to celebrate the engagement of his daughter Kathrine to a promising young noble from sentinel township named Lorent”

“Kathrine!”

“Lorent!”

Silas and Renult exclaimed simultaneously

“Kathrine is my fiance how could the village lord do such a thing, I’ve been missing for a while sure but it has not been years, who is this Lorent Silas? I will go hunt him down immediately”

Silas considered for a moment, “Yes we can kill him, from memory his cultivation was not strong enough to even hover, hopefully that has not changed much since. I too desire revenge against him and his close ones Lorent is Torg’s older brother”

Ting must be giving him 100% of his resources and focus now that Torg is missing.

First I will cripple Lorent as revenge for all the dirty work he and his kin forced me to do like a slave, then I will march into Ting’s lavish office and crush his skull against the wall, not even the All-Heaven sect standing behind him will stop me.

“Good… Good..” Renult said through clenched teeth, “Clearly the town lord no longer desires my skills in pill crafting, good, I am free from my duties in this little township. Silas lets go interrupt this little celebration they have going”

“Lead the way.”

[1 hour earlier in the upper courtyard]

“Kathrine this is for the best, even if Renult were here he was simply a measly lesser earth realm cultivator, is that who you want to be stuck with for the rest of your life? Lorent is actually already a Blue earth realm cultivator at the age of 29 his potential is limitless!”

“Yes Yes Kathrine, plus Lorent is actually a desciple of the great sky forger Ting! Who would dare bring worries to as a member of the All-Heaven sect and his disciple’s people, your prospects are limitless with such a backing!”

Kathrine listened on with an absent expression, she knew the maids attending to her meant well but she considered this twisted fate to be too much to accept, she had planned ending her own life but she didn’t want to let the people that did this off the hook that easily. So one night after careful consideration Kathrine had snuck into her lord father’s chambers to snatch an ancient relic that would help her get revenge.

Once prepared, the maids led Kathrine to the outside of the banquet hall, this was the moment she had been waiting for, with a shaking hand she primed the relic that in reality was simply a tool that would overload the mana in ones body causing a massive explosion while also killing the user.

Kathrine held the relic and forcefully shoved open the door, but what she found on the other side left her puzzled, there was no announcement of her arrival, nobody even looked at her, all eyes were fixed to the main entrance hall where two men where positioned. Lorent was the closest to them he stared with a terribly furious expression at the two.

“You are not the only cultivators in the grassland region, what makes you think you may act as you please at my grand ceremony?”

Although furious, Lorent didn’t immediately get violent, a cultivator with a backing shouldn’t be easily angered, and he understood that. So he decided to get a read on their power while pretending to talk.

“Perhaps there is a misunderstanding and you have a reasonable explanation for barging in?”

seemingly Lorent had completely failed to recognise Silas, after all he could never match the image of that pathetic worm to the steady looking, hovering cultivator in front of him. He had also never met Renult and had only heard weak decriptions of him.

“Misunderstanding… Hah..” Renult scoffed in disgust.

“brother, if you seek revenge for me I would be in your debt, I have skills as a pill crafter, you will not be disappointed” he whispered.

“Say no more Renult, I have my reasons for hating this scum anyway”

Just at this moment the Lord of Glassthread, Kathrine’s father emerged.

“Renult, your time has long passed unfortunately you are no longer welcome” he said as his plump face twisted into a morbid smile.

furthermore you will not be given your payment as you failed to remain in Glassthread for the contractual time, please leave at once, Lorent and Kathrine have business to attend to.”

“You bastard….”

Renult’s thoughts were a mess at this point how could he do this! just as he was about to rush in to fight a hand plopped down on his shoulder.

“Let me handle this”

Silas moved towards Lorent while pooling his mana into his legs, feet and to a lesser extent his fists.

“You send this man to do your fighting for you Renult? It seems like the descriptions of weakness I have heard of you are true, I will show you what it means to mess with a disciple of the great lord Ting”

Suddenly the mana Silas had pooled in his legs shot out with extreme force shooting him forward like a canon ball towards Lorent’s head.

Without enough time to dodge Lorent conjured an energy based shield wall in front of him, he had learned this new technique after breaking through to the Blue earth realm, it was completely unbreakable by any cultivator below the Green earth realm.

As Silas’s fist approached the energy barrier something incredible happened, the energy Silas pooled into his fist repelled the energy inside the barrier with such for that it shattered without even touching it. Shards of solid energy shot flying across the room cutting up Lorent’s face in the process, but that wasn’t the end to the attack.

Silas’s fist continued forward and eventually met with Lorent’s bloody face, the impact made a loud impact sound reverberating throughout the entire banquet hall.

Each and every high ranking noble had an expression of shock and awe as they saw this powerful figure get punched in the face by this stranger, some even stood, stumbling backwards in fear.

Although Lorent’s face was now covered in blood he was nonetheless a Blue earth realm cultivator which meant his physical resilience was very strong. Lorent spat out a mouthful of blood and without saying a word conjured an energy sword and thrust towards Silas’s dantian.

In response Silas shifted his energy into his palms and released a powerful blast which temporarily threw Lorent off balance. Grasping this opportunity, Silas threw another punch towards his opponents chest, this time however, Lorent had no time to conjure up defensive measures, attempting a desperate dodging motion. This proved fruitless and was caught by Silas’s fist on his left shoulder.

*ccrrrrraack*

Lorent’s arm dangled from his torso, now a dead weight, unable to bear the pain he collapsed to the ground.

“Renult, you may do the honours.”

Renult approached the pitiful looking Lorent, the anger on his face slowly being replaced by satisfaction.

“Yo.. You cant kill me! My master is a disciple of the all heaven sect that goes uncontested in our whole SouthWestern territory, you would dare anger them? I think not.”

As Lorent talked his confidence grew, however, unluckily for him Renult was no coward, especially with the help from a Blue earth realm cultivator like Silas.

As this sorry excuse for a cultivator laying on the floor was about to open his foul mouth to speak threats again Renult stabbed an energy spike into the centre of his forehead finishing him for good.

The massive hall was now dead silent, nobody could have expected this simple engagement would turn out like this.

“Renult!”

breaking the silence a desperate but joyful cry resounded from the back of the hall.

Everything had happened so fast Kathrine barely had any time to actually come to terms with the situation at hand. She rushed over to Renult and hugged him passionately, all the while still holding the ancient detonation device in her trembling hands.

“I was never going to marry him you must believe me.”

“Of course I do, you don’t need this relic any more, we will be ok now.”

Kathrine’s father, the Glassthread village's lord, had previously thought that his daughter would be marrying the most powerful cultivator in the whole region, how quickly these aspirations turned to dust in front of his eyes.

“You… You killed him…. he was Blue earth realm and you killed him just like that. What kind of a monster are you? What is your cultivation?”

Renult began to move towards the town lord after hearing him speak but stopped hearing Kathrine’s beg for mercy.

“I will be taking Kathrine and leaving this place, if you put a toe out of line I will come back to slaughter you.”

And on that final word the three left through the front door with the fearful eyes of hundreds of nobles upon them.

The hall remained quiet for what felt like hours after the small group had left, no one daring to offend the Village lord who was currently as white as a bed sheet. Eventually he mumbled something about contacting sky forger Ting who was recently appointed new lord of Sentinel Township, the All-Heaven sect would be hearing about what happened.

Nobody knew the events that unfurled on this night would end up having rippling consequences for years to come.
