Chapter 12

Chapter 12

One elf surrounded by humans. All gazed upon him like he was a rare animal. While Erik and Lhaindir were staring at each other the weather suddenly worsened. The sky was covered by fast-forming dark clouds, day turned into night but no rain came with the clouds.

The world stilled for a moment and then there was a thunderous bang. Lightning flashed straight from the heavens to the ground but unfortunately someone was in the way and that someone was Erik.

Before anyone could react lightning struck his head. The unlucky Erik now had dishevelled hair and his uniform was ripped and charred in many places. The mighty general turned beggar in a mere flash. The clouds dispersed and night reverted to day like nothing happened.

His subordinates were rooted in shock until someone started screaming, “Medic!!! Medic!!!”.

The medics soon arrived at scene, immediately checking Erik’s vital signs for irregularities but even after checking they couldn’t find anything wrong with him even the normal after-effects after getting struck by lightning weren’t present. This baffled everyone at the scene, was their general impervious to lightning?

Coincidentally, Erik received a notification the same moment he was struck. When Erik finally awoke from his lightning induced stupor the first thing he did was to read the notification.

[My champion Erik, we don’t have the patience to watch you learn languages, consider that lightning a gift of mine. You can now understand all languages. Also about that gutsy Elf who followed you, either bring him into the fold or kill him. -Your most awesome God of War, Ares]

Naturally, Erik was incensed after comprehending the content of the message. He jumped up to his feet and started screaming all profanities he knew of towards the sky. On Earth he would have been characterized as a harmless lunatic but on Valeria he was a dangerous madman since the gods were real.

Naturally Ares couldn’t hold back and another lightning bolt came from the heavens to strike Erik. Suffice to say, Erik directly fainted. Everyone present on the scene were scared witless. They all had a single thought,” Is this revenge?”.

Due to having had his body strengthened Erik turned into a perfect sandbag for Ares, a mere lightning bolt could only stun him for a short while.

When Erik opened his eyes again, he found a message waiting for him.

[Now, now let’s not be feisty. We wouldn’t want lightning to strike again, would we now? Now get on with your “quest”. WE ARE BORED. -Your most benevolent God of War Ares]

Erik literally had the fear of god struck into him. This time around, he could only mumble under his breath.

When Erik finally got up and proclaimed that he was fine, everyone visibly relaxed. But the next words from Erik’s mouth raised the tension up again.

Erik turned to the elf lying on the ground and with a voice that could freeze hell ten times over asked, “Why were you following us?”

The elf named Lhaindir was frightened to death by Erik’s question. Due to the fantastical events happening in front of him that ignited his curiosity he completely forgot that he was surrounded by humans.

He was in a life or death situation but the only thought he had was “Curiosity killed the elf.”.
