The Letter

The Letter

Arion woke up first. It had been a long sleep - almost seven days. He had gone on his morning flights but the blue beast had not stirred at all. He wondered how they would approach the business of flying… Did this beast know how to fly? Or would it need to learn? Renna would need to learn at least like he had. So many questions.

He wanted to talk to mother, but he was hesitant to do this without Renna. So he busied himself arranging a meeting with Renna’s father instead. It was tricky if he did not want to expose Renna to people who might recognize her. And it was even trickier considering her uncertain abilities controlling and working with her beast. It was very dangerous to take her out to the world not knowing if she could contain the beast - a dragon unable to fly suddenly transforming in an unsafe place would be dead.

He was worried. Going back to Lord Aris’s domain was not an option. He would need to contact him and arrange a meeting somewhere safe. Considering that Renna’s father did not read… It was pretty tricky. But eventually, he figured out a plan and that involved writing to Aron. His whereabouts were quite easy to guess and he did read. But how to approach it, so it would not arouse suspicion, and yet be believable…

> Sir,

>

> We have not met, but I am writing to you with regards to my bride and your sister. She desires to meet her father but circumstances surrounding her departure, as you are surely aware, do not allow her to return home safely. If you would be able to get word to your father through your contacts back home requesting him to visit you at the monastery and subsequently inform us of the time of his stay we might be able to organize a visit. Please address your response to Black Oak Inn, West Landfall.

> P.S I presume you have been in contact with your brother Tom already, whom we met visiting the city during the light celebration. If you have not and have doubts about the sincerity of this letter, please seek him out. He was working in the city, at Red Mare Inn when we met.

Arion read the letter again. Then he folded it up, sealed it and addressed it to Aron Johanson, East City Monastery.

In the wrong hands it meant nothing… But he hoped Aron would understand the deeper implications and contact his father without betraying too much to the priest that would need to read his letter to their father.

He looked at Renna’s beast - it was still fast asleep. He resolved to take a quick flight to the inn by the forest and post the letter. When he returned, she had not woken yet, but he could see signs of restlessness in her sleep. Her eyes were moving under the heavy lids. He let his beast curl up to her and went to sleep. Quite some charmer his beast, he had to admit.
