35 - It's a bird! It's a plane! It's...!

GalvanGal raced across the sky with Delsin in her arms. Her super-hearing confirmed the instability of the crane and her electro-reception detected the presence of many people still in the park including Aaliyah.

At first, those people cheered at the sight of GalvanGal. Those cheers turned to screams when the crane noticeably tilted toward them as it broke off its foundation. Rings of light encircled every attendant in the park. Aaliyah trapped them for the sake of preventing a stampede but that made the horror in their faces no more bearable. She had to have faith in her comrade.

GalvanGal set Delsin down on the stage and bolted back into the air as the crane plummeted toward the park. She grabbed hold of the bars of the tower mast. From there she spread her magnetism across the crane to distribute the strength needed to push against it. More than just heavy, it was the accuracy needed to spread the electricity up the metal lattice of the mast, over the cab, across the jib, and down the trolley pulley that took away precious seconds.

On the ground, Delsin raised giant dirt hands that reached for the sky. As much as GalvanGal had slowed the crane’s descent, it still slammed into the hands hard enough to crack them. The impact knocked her out of her grip and into the grass. As loud and scary as it was, the crane was held in place. If GalvanGal was not here to slow it down, the crane would smash straight through the hands. If Delsin was not here to catch it, GalvanGal would not have been able to stop the crane before it crashed. It was only by working together that they were able to save everyone.

With the situation relieved, Aaliyah released the crowd from their shackles and the attendants began evacuating the park. GalviaGal scooped up Delsin as he tried to sneak away with the crowd.

“Hey, hey Aaliyah, listen, there were these bad guys who attacked Olympus who had weird armor and some of them even had mutant powers. Do you remember Delsin? He’s a mutant that controls dirt and he’s way better at it now. Did you not hear about it?”

“No, we felt the tremor, but we did not receive word of an attack.”

“That’s weird, it was the same for us too, not the tremor part but we didn’t get an alert like we should have, maybe its another mutant power. Anyway, I think I need to go back to Garrick. Can you hold this guy in a bubble for me until I get back?”

“Sorry, I can’t let you do that,” said Delsin, “my Geokinesis magic is what’s keeping that crane in place. Who knows what I could do with that oversized tonfa in my grasp? Even if you knocked me out, that would just take away the pillars holding back a man-made meteor.”

“Huh? Are you trying to hold this park hostage or something?” Hannah squeezed tighter on him.

“Well, yes, I am the bad guy after all, and I still have a job to do that involves hindering the GalvanGal for as long as possible.”

“What is the job you came here to do?” asked Aaliyah, though she had a feeling that she already knew the answer.
