Normalcy

"Okay, I understand. Collect all the information you can find regarding this new weapon. I'll contact you again." He ended the call and fell into deep thought.

For the past years, the Ministry of Research and Development's focus was on how to make people's lives easier and more comfortable. They've produced machines for mechanized agriculture, medical types of equipment for accurate diagnosis of diseases, environmentally friendly engines, and many more. They never touched anything about weaponry so how come the rumor of a new weapon came from their department?

The thought that the evolution of the Tenebrae was connected to this so-called new weapon crossed the general's mind. This thought only made him frown. As common logic would dictate, this weapon might be something that could also be used against this new version of Tenebrae but this did not sit well with him.

It seemed to him that something was really happening behind the scenes. This matter was indeed not simple. In that case, they needed to be prepared. He looked at the phone in his hand and once again dialed a number.

When the other party answered, he spoke without waiting for a hello. "Inform all the Chiefs of the Enforcer Stations under my jurisdiction for an emergency meeting the day after tomorrow at exactly ten in the morning. The meeting will be held here at Matrix City."

"Yes sir." The other person answered and ended the call. The man immediately went to work and informed all the concerned people of the general's instructions.

If the people in the Headquarters chose to remain silent, he would not be like them. If someone was pulling the strings from the shadows, he would enjoy destroying the plans they had painstakingly arranged and hid. Besides, he had his own research team and intelligence team that could provide him with the necessary data and information that he needed.

Aizel was sleeping when he heard the door to his room gently opening. He opened his eyes and saw that it was his father. He looked at the man with disappointment before he turned to the side with his back facing the general. Leroy knew that his son wasn't in the right mood for a conversation right now. He walked towards his bed and gently gave him a pat on the back.

"She will not come. She didn't even want to hear any of my explanations." Leroy stood up and sat on an empty seat inside the room after his fatherly gesture.

"I expected so." Aizel mumbled.

It was to be expected after what happened. He acted weak and vulnerable even if he was not. That time, he did not have any choice because if he did not take action the enemy might have killed Aliyah. He was just afraid that Aliyah might get hurt.

"What will you do now?" Leroy glanced at his son's unmoving back.

The sole reason they went to Matrix City was because of the information they received. For years, they had been looking for Aizel's lost sister. He did what he did to give the brother and sister a chance to get to know each other but it did not end well. He knew that their method was wrong but they couldn't carelessly tell the young woman that Aizel was her brother.

Aizel wanted to get to know her more because he wanted to build the courage to tell her what happened that year. He did not expect that their plan would fail and now his sister hated him and his father. How he wished that he could still have the chance to correct what they did wrong.

"Let her be for now, I'll approach her again in the future..." he laid down on his back and looked at the ceiling, deep in thought.

"Are you sure about that?" Leroy knew that this moment was very important to Aizel and knew that his decision to step back would be good for the both of them but he still wanted to make sure.

If you spot this story on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation.

Aizel nodded, "Yes."

"If that's the case, help in the investigation of the assassination attempt on you." Leroy folded his hands and let them rest on his knees. He then saw his son nodding at his words. "Okay then, report to me immediately if you find anything."

Leroy left and Aizel stood up. He walked to the veranda attached to his room and looked at his surroundings until his eyes fell on the moon. The moon was bright but strangely giving the feeling of desolation. It was a feeling he always carries within him. He believed that he would have the chance soon. He needed to focus on other important things for the moment. He would retreat for now.

The night ended with Aliyah's side returning to normal. She started to return to her former post at the Enforcer Station. She was glad that the general seemed to have lost interest in her which made her life much easier.

"Wow, you are back!" Loki cheerfully approached Aliyah with his everyday morning smile. "I'm glad you're here again, now we won't be missing one person on our patrols."

Aliyah just gave him a glance and nodded. "I returned to steal your limelight then."

Loki laughed out loud which caused the enforcers present to look at them. "Okay then, now that the star has returned it's time for you to meet the new captain assigned to our station."

Aliyah had heard of the new addition to their station but because of her past assignment she had no time to meet the person. She followed Loki to another office adjacent to the Chief's. They knocked and were given permission to enter by a low voice. Loki opened the door and gestured for Aliyah to enter.

Behind a desk inside the room was a man with clean-cut black hair. He was seriously looking at the documents in front of him. "Stop standing there and take a seat, enforcer." He spoke without looking up.

It took five minutes for him to finally look up and reveal defined cheekbones, concrete jaw, and deep blue eyes that added to his air of elegance. He was also wearing a pair of glasses that further highlighted his eyes.

He stood up and walked towards Aliyah, "You have been working for General Aryster for the past week, am I right?" The speech was direct with no greeting.

"Yes sir." Aliyah answered. An imperceptible frown appeared on her face. She did not like the tone of their new captain.

He looked at her silently for a moment before he turned around and returned to his seat. "How was your experience with working for the general?"

Aliyah did not expect the question. She narrowed her eyes at the man before she gave him her answer. "Alright, I guess." She shrugged her shoulders.

The new captain could sense displeasure from her words but he did not comment. "I don't know what happened during that time, but I hope that you did not lose your touch."

"You don't have to worry, sir. I can still kill those monsters with ease." Aliyah was now leaning on her chair and had a smirk on her face while answering the captain.

"That's good, you'll be assigned to your old team and will patrol the East Area. Your mission is to eliminate any Tenebrae that will appear and to secure samples for analysis. We need as many samples as we can for laboratory testing. The more varied the specimens are, the better." The captain explained.

"I understand," Aliyah nodded. After the command was given, she stood up and left the office without even asking for the captain's name.

Aliyah returned to her team and remained silent while a curious Loki went to her and asked. "So, what did Major Weiss say?"

"I didn't know that he was actually a Major," Aliyah mumbled with her eyes closed, "he told me that I will remain with my old team, that's all."

Major Alfonse Mitchell Weiss returned to reading the document he left on the table. He wore a serious expression as he read the contents of the documents. He was just assigned to the station and now the headquarters sent an order requiring all Enforcer Stations to collect and turn over any rare Tenebrae specimen or sample for further analysis.

He sighed and tossed the letter in the trash can. The Headquarters was becoming more and more difficult to understand. The recent changes with the Tenebrae had thrown the Headquarters into a mess and uncertainty. And now, they refused to disclose any information regarding these sudden changes to the monsters they were fighting.

Before he was transferred, he tried gathering more insider information regarding the progress of the investigation related to the sudden evolution of Tenebrae but people from the Headquarters were tight lipped. He tried probing a bit deeper but it proved difficult as the Ministry of Research and Development became heavily guarded. After trying to focus on his task at hand, he finally decided to call the general and report.

"If that's the case just ignore them. Focus on helping the station. We will solve that matter on my end." The general replied.
