“Although the system is still concealing insults in its words, at least it isn't as bad as before,” said Cassius, feeling a bit proud of how far he had come. “And because I can naturally increase my stats through hard work, stats like Strength, Agility, and Endurance were able to skyrocket above the rest.”

Cassius was beginning to get a little ahead of himself after seeing his stats, but when a rough-looking young man ran by him and easily knocked him out of the way, he realized just how weak he actually was.

“What are you doing standing in my way, you fool!?” the rough young man scorned before spitting next to Cassius and continuing on his way. “Wait up for me, Isabella! Don’t you realize just how much I love you!?”

“Go away, you loser! I already told you that I won’t date an F-Rank Awakened!”

“Oh, come on! Don’t be like that!”

In this world, not everyone was awakened, with only ten percent of the population being classified as such. However, those who were awakened were simply seen as better, superior humans. Many people wouldn’t even so much as look your way if your rank wasn’t high enough, or if you were not awakened. Just like how the wealthy viewed the poor, the awakened disdained the unawakened, and the strong awakened disdained the weak awakened.

Normally, the unawakened could live relatively peaceful lives if they lived in smaller areas or areas where the population was so large that everyone was weaker than someone. Yet, in the larger town of Hoshito, it had just the right population to take advantage of a hierarchy. Unless you were rich or vital to society, if you were unawakened, you were just trash.

Cassius sighed before getting up off the hot pavement. “Even though I’m about to become a senior, I am still the same trash as before,” he muttered. But when he recalled all the times he had been treated as less than air, a blazing fire surged within his body. “With this shitty system, I wish to see just how long everyone can view me as garbage before they’re eventually surpassed by me.”

The tale has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.

He clenched and unclenched his fists before truly starting his Daily Quest for the day. No matter what was to come from obtaining this system, he would keep grinding and becoming stronger. From that moment onward, he vowed to himself that he would become so strong that even the strongest of Hunters would awe at him from below.

“Time to idle,” Cassius declared as he prepared to push himself to the absolute limits.

For the next week, he left himself on the verge of passing out, not willing to go easy on his physical body. From this period of grinding, he got all of his stats above 20, with his system interface now looking like:

HUF! HUF! HUF!

Perspiration flew off Cassius’s chiseled, shirtless body as he performed sit-up after sit-up in his room. This was the last exercise he needed to complete for the day, and just as he reached number 100 in record time, a womanly fragrance pervaded his nostrils as a blonde beauty barged into his room.

“Hey, lend me $10—!” Aya demanded, yet stopped in her tracks when she saw her supposed stepbrother rise from the floor and grab a white towel. She unblinkingly watched him wipe himself down and run his hand through his medium-length jet black hair, finding herself at a loss for words. ‘Was he always… this hot? That fatty… What is going on here…!?’

“Hmm?” A little zoned out, Cassius finally realized someone had entered his room.

Aya was dressed in a baggy white T-shirt and a pair of shorty shorts, with the former unable to conceal the ample breasts proudly displaying themselves to the world. He quickly noticed she wasn’t wearing a bra, but decided to ignore it. Instead, he asked, “What do you need?” in a voice that was both deep and husky, much unlike his previous voice.

“O-Oh, uhmm…” Suddenly flustered, Aya averted her eyes from his abs and defined biceps. “I-It’s just that I need… $10 to hang out with my friends… A-And I…”

Cassius didn’t know what was up with his stepsister, but she probably figured out about his part-time job from their parents. He started it two weeks ago, just before he resolved to change for the better, and Aya likely knew he’d already received his first paycheck.

“No.”

“N-No…?” Aya parroted in confusion.

“I will not give you any of my money,” Cassius repeated, making sure his point got across.

Aya became a little angry at his rudeness, but it wasn’t her money to begin with. And it wasn’t like she’d been very nice to him, so she couldn’t really blame him. ‘B-But without the money, they will hit me again…’ She bit her pretty pink lips before nodding. “I-I understand, I will go now…”

Cassius watched as Aya left his room in a far more distressed mood than when she entered. He wondered what was irking her so greatly, but it wasn’t like they were close or anything. He had no reason to help or give her anything.

But…

“We are family,” said Cassius as he appeared just behind the short girl with a wad of cash. He placed it on her head before walking past her and descending a flight of stairs. “There’s a little over $100 there, but don’t spend it all on those unsavory friends of yours. Sometimes, you can get nice things for yourself, you know?”

“W-Wait… What…? I don’t need this much…” Aya attempted to say, but when she tried to find that warm smile, he was already gone. “I-I was going to pay you back when I got my Hunter license and went into a Gate…” She clenched her chest, feeling something warm spread through her insides. However, when she recalled all the mean things she’d said about Cassius, she suddenly felt like the biggest bitch of all time.

“Why did I say all those things…?” Aya asked herself, a bit depressed. “I was once overweight as well, and I wanted to harm myself every day… Moreover, I didn’t even have a condition like Cassius…”

“Why am I such a hateful bitch…?” She clenched the money in her hands, but rather than feel happy, she only felt something tearing away at her heart. She hated herself—the person she had become.
