Chapter 6 - Can You Fight? (2)

Chapter 6 - Can You Fight? (2)

A crowd of slaves had gathered to witness the fight. Their jaws nearly touched the ground as they stared at the two who had killed their master.

Suzaku’s arm shot to her side to show off her wielder. “Behold! The wielder of my greatness in all of his glory!”

Yushia looked at her before looking back at the slaves with the best show of confidence he could. He asked, “What are you doing?”

She whispered back to him. “This is our chance to be recognized! The bigger we grow, the more leeway we shall be given in future events. These are the benefits of being the wielder of my greatness.”

Among the crowd of slaves was Buford. He stepped out into the battleground and picked up a contract. His contract. “Goodness...”

“Could you burn that one too?” Yushia asked, pointing at the only man he respected in CM-22.

“Why would my greatness do that?” Suzaku asked back. “Slaves are slaves for a reason. My greatness would not make the mistake of releasing criminals back into her land.”

“This one’s different. He helped me a lot and his reason for being here isn’t bad.”

“What did he do to be a slave?”

“He saved children like me. He protected others but was turned into a slave when he was caught.”

Suzaku considered refusing but walked up to Buford and took his contract from his hands, burning it in her own. She handed him the ashes and turned away with a glare to rejoin her wielder. She appreciated what he used to do, but if he were caught again, she wouldn’t be saving him.

“No more freeing!” Suzaku whispered to her wielder. “These slaves will all die in the forest anyway!”

After having seen what happened with Buford’s contract, the rest of the gathered slaves began searching for theirs. Some had found theirs early and began rushing toward Yushia, but he’d already run off with Suzaku into the forest. He looked back once more at Buford and waved goodbye to him. While he wasn’t sure where he was headed, he was sure anywhere was better than here.
