Prologue

As the snow fell around them, Diana thought about the last time she and Lorcan were together in the snow. Both of them were.

“The cold still gets to me sometimes,” he frowned at the powder starting to gather around them.

“I know what you mean,” she replied with a half hearted smile. Her raven colored hair fluttered about with a gust of wind, and Lorcan brought his hand up to her chin. He gently pulled her closer and kissed her… on the nose. A giggle escaped her lips as pulled away shyly.

“I’d take a thousand nights cold if it meant I got as many lives with you by my side,” his voice steady and strong with his declaration. A strong sense washed over her that he’d said this before, before he was ever Lorcan. Before he was ever Gavin. “There’s no man or god that could stop me from finding you.” His strong arms embraced me tightly, as if I’d drift away like a snowflake on the wind. But I could never, not to him. In this rough ocean of existence he was my lighthouse on the horizon.

“From this life, to the next,” I agreed, relaxing into his embrace. Hopefully she hoped this time they would have longer. They were fairly young when they met the last time, but they were also dead before they really had a chance to get their lives together.

“I never asked, who was one you met?” He asked after a few more moments of quiet.

“You might be surprised, but likely not considering how I am,” I laughed as I remembered my talk with the Moon.
