“My Stats are crazy good right now, but almost all my archer skills are under Lv.3. I should find some time to level them. I also still haven’t gotten a subclass active skill, is it because I need more eyes?” I wondered to myself.
Closing the menu, I found that I was already at the Guild building without knowing. The building had a few battle marks but was relatively fine compared to the town. Walking in I saw that it was bustling with adventurers again, all of them running around trying to find a party, and fighting over requests. There was also a line of at least 30 people for each of the 6 Guild workers. Stepping into line I thought “There must be a lot of good requests after last night’s attack for everyone to line up like this. There wasn’t even much of a line last time.” Taking a glance at the Guild workers with my eyes, I saw that they were all Lv.22-25, while Thaddeus was the highest at Lv.45. “Damn, these workers are no joke, they’re higher level than most of the townguards, even the Captain for Thaddeus. I wonder if there are even stronger Guild workers in bigger cities?”
After a few minutes of waiting I finally got to the start of the line, but when Thaddeus saw me he announced “Attention, this line is now closed. Please find yourself on another line.” Some of the people became outraged and started to complain loudly at him. Ignoring them, he said “This way Sir.” Gesturing at the only door in the building, behind the counter. Understanding, I walked around the counter as he opened the door for me. Seeing me being treated differently, I could feel almost everyone in the room begin to look at me with curiosity and envy. Thaddeus closed the door behind us and led the way down the hallway.
Looking down the hallway, I could see three doors on each side, all evenly spaced. At the end of the hallway was a metal door with 2 rock statues, one on each side of the door. Staring at the statues I could see that they were magic, as their names appeared above them, Lv.50 Golem Guardian. “A door guarded by two Lv.50 golems, I wonder what they’re keeping behind it?”
Taking out a key, Thaddeus unlocked the first door on the left and entered. Following him, I found a well furnished room, with 4 bookshelves on the sides, a couch, a table with two chairs, some plants, and on the high ceiling was a crystal ball chandelier. In the middle of the room was a big wooden office desk with lots of paper on top, and a plaque that said ‘Branch Manager Thaddeus Crane’.
Sitting at the desk and organizing the papers, Thaddeus said “Apologize for the mess, I had to make a report on the attack last night.”
Sitting in one of the 2 chairs in front of the desk, I said “I don’t mind, but why did you bring me here, Branch Manager Thaddeus Crane.” Pretending not to know his name.
“Thaddeus is fine, and I wanted to talk to you about another request, but first.” He then reached under the table, taking out a Platinum bracelet and a large sack of coins, and passing them over the table, “I would like to congratulate you on becoming a Platinum Rank Adventurer.”
Quest Completed Thaddeus’s Request has been completed. Rewards: Platinum Rank Adventurer and 550(+50) Gold
Surprised, I said “Not that I’m complaining, but didn’t you say the reward was Gold Rank? But this is a Platinum Rank and 550 Gold?”
“Sadly Platinum Rank was the most I could convince the Guild, and most Platinum Rank requests are worth 500 gold.” Thaddeus answered.
“Then I should graciously accept.” Taking the bracelet and gold.
“It was very surprising to find out that someone strong enough to kill an Elder Cyclops alone joined the Guild, especially in the town of Asheton. Finding and slaying an Elder Cyclops is truly a rare feat, it would even be hard fight with a full party of Platinum Ranked adventurers, but you are alive and unscathed. If I could, I would’ve given you Mithril.”
The narrative has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.
“Did they only see Oros dead? And not anything else? What a fortunate misunderstanding. Could this be my Luck Stat? That doesn’t make sense, I just got the Luck Stat, maybe it was just ordinary luck.” Depositing my gold and Platinum bracelet in my inventory, and taking the Copper bracelet out—handing it back to Thaddeus.
Thaddeus rubbed his chin, saying “It seems you already know about how the bracelet works, considering you keep it off most of the time.”
“I do, and I don’t really like being watched.”
“It is not a requirement to divulge your real name to join the Guild, even so you make me very curious about you...quite a mysterious elf.”
“Telling him my name shouldn’t be a problem, right?” Saying, “People just call me Eyes.”
“Well Eyes, there is one more thing I would like to discuss.” Giving him a look to go ahead, he continued “The attack last night was unnatural, it is extremely rare that an army of goblins would attack a well defended town like Asheton, let alone 10,000 goblins.” Explaining, “An average large goblin clan consists of around 1,000 goblins, led by a Goblin Chieftain, yet there was only one sighting of a Goblin Chieftain last night.”
“So something else is leading them?”
“Yes, and if I had to guess, it would be that a Goblin King has appeared.”
“A Goblin King? What’s the difference between it and a chieftain?”
“Chieftains are the strongest goblins in the clan and therefore become the leader, while a King is born to lead, making all other goblins under him stronger. As long as one is alive, goblins will continue to increase in numbers in the area, whether they join from another clan or born from captured women.” Adding, “ It’s only been a week since the increased monster attacks have been reported, and they already sent an army of 10,000 to attack.”
Thinking for a moment, “I know I don’t have to help since there’s a lot of Players who could help instead, but I really shouldn’t risk the lives of people like Mr.Hensley and his wife, and the girls in the Sleeping Forest Inn in another attack.” Noting, “I should go check on them later.”
“This will be a Silver or Gold Request from the Guild itself, and I know it won’t help your Rank progress, but there is only one Iron Rank in town right now...”
“So I gotta kill the Goblin King on my own then?”
“No, it could still be risky alone, even for yourself. We don’t know the King’s location or their total numbers, or even how strong they’re main army truly is, so I would like you to accompany a Party that I am personally assembling for the Request. One Iron Rank and four really promising Copper Ranks. If they are forced to flee, I would ask you to at least keep as many of the Copper Ranks safe, they have a lot of potential.”
Quest
Goblin Regicide:
Kill the Goblin King.
Hidden Quest:
Keep all the Copper Rank Adventurers alive.
Reward: ??? Hidden: ???
“I guess he just told me the hidden quest, let's see if I can find out the rewards.” I asked Thaddeus, “What would I get for doing this, if not rank progress?”
Thaddeus thought for a moment and said “You will get a separate reward worth the requested rank, that you don’t have to share with the others, and for the other reward...I’ll have to think about it some more.”
Quest Updated.
Reward: Receive Gold equal to Request Rank.
“Looks like I can find out the reward for Quests.” Accepting, I said “When do we start?”
“Tonight, come back after nightfall, I’ve already informed the rest of the Party, and it will take some time to get the location of the Goblin King.” Thaddeus said, pleased that I accepted.
Before exiting out to the Guild Hall, I turned to Thaddeus “Oh, can you also keep my Rank a secret from the other party members? I don’t want them to think I’m babysitting them.”
“Of course, Guild workers are good at keeping a secret.” Opening the door for me.
Instantly I could see almost everyone in the Hall look at me when I walked through the door. “Oh boy.” Walking around the counter and towards the entrance, I could clearly hear their whispers with my high Sense.
“Who is he?”
“Is he like us or an Npc?”
“Doesn't look that special to me.”
“He’s really hot.”
Smiling at some of the whispers I walked out of the building. Looking over to the Sleeping Forest Inn, I saw that it was almost perfectly fine, then I thought “Hmm, I think I’ll go to Drune’s first, and then rest at the Inn until nightfall.”
Going to the market area I remembered to stop by Hensley’s wife's stand. Talking to her I found out her name was Beatrice Thomas, and as I told her about how Hensley cried, she laughed. Like before, I bought all the fruits again for a gold, this time though she tried to refuse, but I insisted for her to keep it. And also thanks to the Level Up, I was able to store most of the fruits in my Inventory.
Walking into Drune’s shop, I saw Odelia and talking to Drune—while he raised the Twilight Blade sword examining it. Looking around I didn’t see Mako, and asked “Hey old man, where’s Mako?” Walking to the counter.
“Ah, Kid you're here!” Putting the sword down on the counter “I forced Mako to take a break after last night’s attack, and I see that you made it out fine yourself.”
“Actually I was out of town, but there’s something I need to talk to you about, alone.” Looking at Odelia just listening.
“It’s okay kid, Odelia and I tell each other everything.” Smiling at her, and her smiling back.
“Seems like she’s more than just a friend.” Taking out the sack of blacksmith tools from my Inventory.
Seeing the sack, Drune jumped over the counter and immediately ripped the sack out of my hands. Looking inside and then at me, he said in a demanding voice “Where did you get this?”
Recalling the same story I told to Hensley, his face relaxed and then turned saddened. “His last wish was for me to deliver those tools to you.”
Drune still processing the lost, Odelia came from behind embracing him and holding him tight, saying “I met Oros a few times, he was a very kind and talented Cyclops, but he was exiled after the Cyclops Slave Rebellion in the Dwarven Kingdom 60 years ago, and no one had seen him ever since.”
“Are there still slaves in the Kingdoms?” I asked.
Odelia gave me a strange look, but answered my question “Most Elves have never had slaves other than our own Race, not wanting to deal with the hassle of creatures with such short lifespans, but the Dwarven and Human Kingdoms have had plenty." Continuing, "Dwarves enslaved mostly monsters, while Humans enslaved everything else, but slavery has been abolished for 50 years now. Sadly though, plenty of slaves are still sold in the black market till this day.”
Suddenly perking up, Drune shouted “That’s it, Kid! From now on I will be your personal Blacksmith, along with Mako, free of charge. If you ever need me to make something or go somewhere I will do it.”
Quest Completed Oros’s Dying Wish and the bonus Hidden Quest has been completed. Reward: Sworn servitude of the Master Blacksmith Drune Stoneheart and his Apprentice Mako Nomura. Hidden Quest Reward: Tear Of An Elder Cyclops
“Sworn servitude?” Then saying, “So Mako’s already your apprentice?”
“After seeing her interesting new methods of sword making yesterday, yes, but don’t tell her that yet.” Drune chuckled.
“You got it.” Out of curiosity, I looked at Drune level, Lv.70 Drune Stoneheart. “Looks can really be deceiving, Drune is a higher level than Oros was, and he said Oros was one of the best blacksmiths, so does that make him just as good or better?” I thought, looking at the hidden reward in my inventory.
Tear Of An Elder Cyclops
Unique
A crystalline tear shed from an Elder Cyclops, it is imbued with incredible healing power.
Use: Can heal any wound no matter the damage, and can even be used to revive the recently dead.
Item consumed on use.
Craftable
“I found what that Nulla guy was talking about, something to revive the dead, and it says it’s craftable.” I decided to show Drune the crystal tear, and asked “What can you do with this?”
Both Drune’s and Odelia’s eyes widened, Drune still surprised said “Holy crap Kid, you made Oros shed a tear?”
“And he became an Elder Cyclops.” Odelia added, just as surprised.
“Is something wrong?” Unsure what they meant.
Drune explained, “A single Cyclops tear has the healing properties able to match the best healing spells and potions. That is why most of the Cyclops were enslaved by the Dwarven Kingdom.”
Odelia continued, “The problem is, that it is nearly impossible to make a Cyclops shed a tear. Let alone an Elder Cyclops that has developed their eye over centuries to be magical, to become something more.”
“One regular Cyclops tear would be at least worth 1,000 Gold in an auction, and an Elder Cyclops tear with its ability to revive the dead, it could even be worth 100,000 Gold!” Drune said excitedly.
Quickly grabbing the tear back, I said “It’s that valuable?”
Laughing, Drune said “Yes, yes it is. If you allow me, as your personal Blacksmith, I could forge the tear into an incredible set of armour.” Already having an idea what it could do, “I believe it would allow you to have increased healing, and it might even be able to revive you once if I make it perfectly. Though to do so I would need to go seek for a proper forge fit for a Masterpiece.”
I thought really hard about it,“That sounds really good right now, but I’m only Lv.20, the chances are I wouldn’t be able to use the armour for a while.” Deciding I said, “I think I’ll wait for now, I don’t think I’m a high enough level to use a Masterpiece of an armour.”
“Hmm…You’re right Kid, but here’s what I’ll do until then. While you get stronger, I will continue to train Mako until she is able to handle Adamantite, and together we truly will forge you a Masterpiece!”
