Chapter 4: Returning the Sword

"Young Master." Ren San entered, greeting respectfully.

"You're here. Since you are, come with me for a walk," Mu Chen glanced at Ren San and said indifferently.

"Yes, Young Master," Ren San responded crisply.

Mu Chen scrutinized Ren San, who was unremarkable in appearance and somewhat dull, but at least he was obedient and reasonably strong.

Qi Si, noticing Mu Chen and Ren San coming out, immediately approached them. Mu Chen's eyes flickered with disgust upon seeing Qi Si.

"Young Master, where are you going?" Qi Si caught up and asked.

"Why, do I have to report my whereabouts to you?" Mu Chen replied impatiently.

Qi Si's face changed slightly, "I'm just concerned about your safety, Young Master."

Looking at Qi Si, Mu Chen said, "Concerned about my safety? If I really were in danger, what help could you possibly provide?"

According to the original owner's memories, whenever he got into fights, Qi Si would only make a few feints before hiding aside to watch, fooling the original owner who was too dense to notice.

Ren San gave Qi Si a cold look and followed Mu Chen out.

Several servants witnessing this scene looked at Qi Si with mockery, pity, or schadenfreude.

Ren San asked Mu Chen, "Young Master, where are we going?"

"To Hu's Weapon Shop, to return this sword," Mu Chen replied.

Ren San looked surprised, "Return it? That doesn't seem like you, Young Master."

Mu Chen simply smiled, "When you're broke, you're broke, right?"

"Master Mu, welcome. What can I do for you today?" The owner of Hu's Weapon Shop greeted Mu Chen as he approached.

Mu Chen handed over the Bi Shui Sword to the shopkeeper, saying, "I'm here to return this."

The shopkeeper's face changed, "What's wrong, Master Mu? Are you dissatisfied with the sword?"

Mu Chen smiled, "It couldn't be given away, so I'm returning it."

"Master Mu, are you sure? This sword is one in a hundred. Returning it means losing ten percent of the yuan stones, and if you decide to buy it back later, it won't be for the same price," the shopkeeper reminded.

Mu Chen smiled, "Still, I'd like to return it. I thought it was nice before, but now, for some reason, it just doesn't seem right to me anymore."

The shopkeeper smiled awkwardly, "Alright then."

"Oh, isn't this Master Mu Chen?" Chen Moran came over with a fan, accompanied by Zhuang Yu.

Mu Chen couldn't help but narrow his eyes. According to the original story, Mu Chen would have had a major confrontation with Zhuang Yu over the returned sword, engaging in a fight with Zhuang Yu's protector, the second-generation ancestor Chen Moran. Unexpectedly, without seeking them out, he still encountered them.

"Ah, Young Master Chen," Mu Chen responded indifferently.

Zhuang Yu, upon seeing Mu Chen, showed a fleeting look of disdain before hiding behind Chen Moran.

Mu Chen noticed Zhuang Yu's look and a cold smirk formed inside him.

On one hand, Zhuang Yu enjoyed the benefits of Mu Chen's affections, while on the other, he despised Mu Chen for being a worthless second-generation ancestor, playing the virtuous victim while engaging in hypocrisy.

As Mu Chen's gaze moved away from him, Zhuang Yu felt an unusual sensation stir within him.

"Young Master Mu, what brings you here? Buying another sword? No, wait! I heard you've been tight on funds lately. Can you still afford a sword?" Chen Moran asked with a hint of scorn.

"No, Master Mu is here to return the sword," the shopkeeper interjected.

Chen Moran laughed, "Really? Master Mu, have you become so destitute that you're selling off your possessions?"

"Yes, I've become that destitute. Young Master Chen, are you considering offering me some charity?" Mu Chen replied lightly.
