I stepped out of the gate of my station, and into the world. It was bright and sunny now, and I could smell the fresh scent of flowers growing in the Spring. Villains were supposed to hate nice things, but to be honest it was calming for me. I made my way down a dirt path that led directly to a city built for villains and other monstrosities.
I passed a sign that said ‘You are entering Deathville, enter at your own peril’. Ah Deathville. It had a dumb name, sure, but it was home. It was also the capital city for villains, and as such housed the Ancient Villains Society, or AVS.
Deathville was built to look as intimidating as possible. The architects who had built it were demons, hired to mimic the architecture in hell. The result was a very unpleasant look. The tall buildings were made with dark and twisted material. Even the richest looking buildings would make a hero think twice before going in. The common-folk, mostly villains who couldn’t hack it in the business, or simple monsters not wanting to be killed by a young hero looking to make a name for himself, lived in dirt mounds, and the only other buildings looked more like old shacks that had lost their shape from years of not being used.
I entered the central courtyard, which was where the AVS was. “Mr. Villainous, please come with me.” Roger was a strange creature. He had a long nose that made him look rather like a weasel, but long fangs that made me think of a vampire. I always assumed he was some sort of lesser demon.
He led me down a winding corridor in the ASV building, and opened a door to the Chancellor’s office. He was a vampire, about as stereotypical as they come, black hair, long fangs, and red eyes. I wouldn’t say that out loud of course, or he’d probably prove me right by sucking my blood out.
“Ah, Mr. Villainous. Please take a seat.” I sat in a dark leather chair in front of his desk. He looked at me, his hands folded and eyes flickering. If I wasn’t used to this whole evil thing, I’d probably crap my pants.
“Hello, Chancellor Keddrick. Why have you summoned me?” I asked him, trying to keep the excitement out of my voice. I was going to get this promotion!
“You don’t know?”
I shook my head.
“We see how you’ve been fighting these new heroes. This last fight was the final straw. You simply cannot be allowed to keep killing new heroes, we have a pact with the Hero’s Academy. We’ve talked about this before.”
Okay, maybe I’m not getting this promotion.
“Need I give you another speech about what it means to be a villain? It’s more than killing, it’s about the long game. You allow these hero’s to win now, and when they are stronger they will cause bigger fights, and therefore allow us to cause more destruction. After all, if there aren’t any heroes to fight, why go to the trouble of burning towns and taking cities?” The vampire looked at me sympathetically and paused.

“Look Frederick. I want to help you, but you aren’t ready for a promotion. You need to learn what it truly means to be a villain so that you can live up to your family name.”
Villainous. That was my family name, and part of me always resented it. No matter where I go, or what I do, I have the word villain attached to my name.
“Chancellor, I don’t want to be a villain.” He locked eyes with me.
“What? Don’t be ridiculous, you murdered those heroes without a second thought. Of course you want to be a villain.”
Roger walked in the office again, “Chancellor, you have a meeting scheduled in five minutes.”
Keddrick rose from his desk, and waved me out of his office. I took a walk through the city, I needed to think. All my life I was told I was supposed to be a villain, and here I was still technically in training. I hadn’t even chosen my specific class yet, still using a hybrid of all of the basic aspects of the villain classes. I didn’t want to be a villain though. Yea sure, killing came easy. But that’s just part of life, and I only killed heroes. I couldn’t stand to kill innocent people. Heroes were just so naive.. so incompetent. And yet they got everything I ever wanted. Fame, fortune, a life. My only job was to cause pain and suffering so that some hero could come around and kill me.
I found my way to the city's bar. I needed a drink. Something that would burn through my stomach, and trust me this bar had it. When I walked in I found my old teacher from the Academy, Professor Springston. He was a Dark Elf, which as the name suggests is a dark looking elf.
“Frederick, what brings you here? Shouldn’t you be working towards a real job instead of that internship you have?” Villains go to the Villains Academy where they learn the basics, then they get an entry level job like mine before becoming a real villain, free to whatever they wish so long as it causes destruction and pain.
“Nope, looks like everything you’ve taught me is going to waste. Chancellor’s not a fan of my fighting style, nor the fact that I keep killing all the new heroes.” I spit the last word as if it were poison.
“Perhaps I have more to teach you yet!” The old Dark Elf smiled at me for once.
“What do you have in mind?” I asked him.
“We’ll go out of the city to train, just me and you. You need to develop a fighting style, and get an idea of the class you want to choose. You’ve always been resourceful, which is good, but right now you are using more than the AVS wants you to use. As far as the killing goes, you’re doing everyone a favor.”
He was right, I needed to choose a class.
“I have an idea in mind for a class, if you can call it that. I want to be a mage with a greatsword!”
“I’m not sure that can be considered a class, but I have a few ideas in mind.” He said as he got up. “Come with me. We start training now.” I followed him outside, I guess we start training now.
