You set your tea back down. "I could use some help, but Canala would have to know that she would be working for a Navigator, with all that that entails."
Faunia snorts. "She is already understudying with Lepa, and is used to dealing with all of my eccentricities and requirements. How much worse could yours be?"
Your eyebrows climb up into your hair. "Medical included?"
Faunia nods, "medical included. Full battery."
You shrug. "Grossing out wouldn't be a factor then, not even after a long Transit. Its the Navigator factor I'm worried about. How well would she handle working for a psyker?"
Faunia shrugs again. "She has helped out with Astropath Tamefusa when he needed assistance."
Your eyebrows couldn't be fixed any higher without surgery. "Old Man Kudo? How did she handle that?"
Faunia sips her tea. "Well enough, I think. Kudo was pretty far gone by the end, in body and mind, and Canala didn't voice many complaints. Spent a bit of time with Chaplain Danus when he was aboard, but nothing serious."
If you encounter this tale on Amazon, note that it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.
"Danus was made a Chaplain?"
Faunia laughs, "Yeah, I didn't see that one coming either..."
The rest of the day passes in languid fashion, and you relish the time you can spend at peace. You get the feeling that the Ignis is going to be an interesting ship to serve aboard.
You arrange to spend the next morning shopping with Canala, alongside Faunia and Lepa. Canala does quite well, and you take her into your employment as your Maid and Steward. She begins her work by heading up to the Ignis with your purchases, robes mostly, and to settle herself into her new quarters adjacent to yours.
Your afternoon is taken up by your new dress being fitted. Urd and her two sisters have done a magnificent job. The dress follows your form, but allows you plenty of room to move in without mincing steps or restricting your movements. The vest has just enough pockets for the essentials, and the kerchief is more than acceptable. The coloration is just right as well, the blue of the vest striking over the white-silver of the dress. You decide that Faunia definitely knows good seamstresses, and she all but drools over the work they put into your dress. Faunia does veto the beret in favor of letting her hair hang down, but other than that makes no changes to Verdandi's designs for her dress.
With your part in the upcoming Founding Day celebrations being little more than 'make an appearance and don't make an ass of yourself', you find yourself with about three days of idle time on your hands. Rather than slowly start climbing the walls in boredom, you decide to do some poking around, to see what you can find. With only three days available, you are limited to the Ignis or to Landing, the capital city of Oasis.
