Chimera, Part Five

Chimera, Part Five

With a flash of light, Ano was behind Sylvester. Emanuel smiled, and took a fighting stance while he faced down Sylvester. Sylvester locked eyes with Emanuel, choosing him to be the greater of the two threats that now surrounded him on both sides. The blue light that surrounded Sylvester's body dissipated, forming once again into his eight hands. He was not fully healed, and still felt the aching pain in his stomach where he was struck, but this was as healed as he was going to get for now. A chair flew at Sylvester from behind, but without looking one of the hands caught it, and nonchalantly tossed it to the side.

Sylvester's Modus is named Lavender Fields, after the location where he first asked his high school crush to go with him to prom. When used with Organion, it is a Kettle Family Modus that allows him to create up to eight hands, each of which possess the ability to move and act autonomously, in accordance with a simple directive that Sylvester must focus on while using his Modus. As a result, Sylvester appear to be able to react at inhuman speeds and with inhuman accuracy, but in reality it is his own hands acting independently. Additionally, because Sylvester must focus on his directive, he is himself limited in the actions that can be taken while using Lavender Fields.

Emanuel and Ano dashed at Sylvester from opposite sides, a flash of blue light briefly painting the walls of the classroom. A clash of martial arts ensued as the two laid out blow after blow- Emanuel performing deft strikes, one after the other, using a newfound sense of speed to strike as quickly as possible without letting any of Sylvester's hands get a solid grip on him, while Ano relied on his overwhelming strength to overpower any hands that got in his way or grabbed onto him. Sylvester's eight hands responded to each blow in kind, blocking, catching, and redirecting any and every attack. This clash continued for nearly thirty straight seconds, each of the fighters possessing the stamina and Organion to push through the assault for as long as possible. The attacks continued to fall and be blocked, but as time went on the combatants' speeds began to fail. In time, Emanuel's wrist was grabbed, and a sly hand pulled Ano's foot out from under him. With his foes immobilized, Sylvester smirked as his hands turned red again.

Lavender Fields, like all Modi, has two functions: one for when Organion is passed through the morneum- the Organion Modus- and one for when Chalion is passed backwards through the morneum- the Chalion Modus. Due to the inexperience of Chrysanthemum Class in its usage of Haonus, only Maria has tapped into the power of her Chalion Modus. When used with Chalion, Lavender Fields becomes a Wheel Family Modus, and creates hands as well- but a completely random amount of them, all of which are given the simple directive of attacking. These hands assail everything within a three-meter radius of Sylvester, who is unable to direct their direction, and must simply rely on luck for his hands to strike his opponents. However, the hands strike with such speed and force that each blow is potentially lethal to a one-star Feeder, to say nothing of a repeated string of blows. With his experience with the Modus, Sylvester has learned that the best way to handle his Chalion Modus is to allow it to run for as long as possible, minimizing his chances of missing by maximizing the number of attacks he makes.

Blue light surrounded the two boys as they prepared for the attack they now knew was coming. The hands that held the two of them in place disappeared, and out came the rain of strikes that had nearly killed the four students previously. Emanuel, having better control of his Haonus in general, focused his Organion directly forward, creating a wall of crackling blue light that protected him. Ano, meanwhile, continued to rely on his overwhelming volume of Organion to soak up much of the blows. As each strike fell, the two of them were pushed back slightly, and the grand total of the attacks caused the two of them to fly outside of Lavender Fields' three-meter radius, but they were surprisingly unharmed. At the moment Sylvester no longer felt the impact of his blows against the boys, he stopped the activation of his Modus and immediately resumed healing.

Stolen story; please report.

Emanuel paused to recuperate, taking stock of the situation. Even if he was allowing Sylvester to heal, it would do no good to keep him damaged if he wasn't getting any more damage through. He was thankfully uninjured after that bevy of attacks, and had all the time he needed to think. Emanuel tried to connect the dots between his previous attack, which landed, and the string of blows he landed now, which went unguarded. As he did, he scanned the area around Sylvester, noting the devastation of the chairs and desks in the room, but only to a certain range- Emanuel noted this range, and also noted how strange it was that he was able to escape from such a powerful attack completely unharmed.

Ano appeared next to Emanuel in a flash of blue light, which traced the edge of Lavender Fields' three-meter radius. Ano may not be the brightest, but he at the very least had functioning eyes.

"So, what's the plan?" Ano asked Emanuel. "You seem to be doing a whole lot of thinking over here, so let's get a game plan going."

"Nothing yet."

"Wha- Nothing? For real? C'mon man, he's healing up!"

"I know! It hasn't even been a minute yet girl, give me a fucking break."

"Sorry, geez."

The two paused, looking intently at Sylvester and at the scene around him. Emanuel tried to make constellations from the rubble, but was struggling to do that and come up with a plan at the same time. He did, however, make a mental note that Sylvester was unable to heal and maintain his eight hands at the same time. What this meant, Emanuel could only guess, but it was good information.

"This is kinda unfair, isn't it?" Ano asked playfully, breaking the silence. "He's got a Chalion Mod and we don't."

"I mean, it's two against one. We should have this."

"Skill issue it is, I guess."

"Real helpful." Emanuel paused, watching the man's chest closely as the amount of blue light around it seemed to wane. "I think we need to go for another attack."

"What kind of attack?"

"Anything. If we keep up at least some pressure, we'll be able to keep him on the back foot. If we don't, he'll eventually fully recover, and then he'll be on the offensive. You go to his left, I'll go for his right."

Ano nodded, and dashed into position. Sylvester immediately noted that the fight was resuming, and stopped his healing in order to re-summon his hands. He winced as two balls of Organion flew at him, but his hands made no effort to catch or block them- they weren't aimed at him. The Organion hit two chairs behind him, and a line appeared between the two chairs."

"Canis Minor," Emanuel said, summoning his spirit.

"You're gonna make a Feeder now, are you?" Sylvester mocked as he stared at the spirit, which he'd only seen Emanuel summon at practice before. He looked at its claws and teeth, and gulped fearfully- as much as he wanted to intimidate Emanuel, a Feeder now would be the last thing the three of them needed.

"Maybe I will, maybe I won't," Emanuel smiled as he approached Sylvester. He hesitated as his feet crossed the radius of Sylvester's Mod, but he found his determination and stepped across. Something told him that after this next clash, He'd understand exactly how to defeat the man that stood before himself and Ano.

Sylvester once again took a fighting stance as Ano and Emanuel approached him, circling around until they were in position, but keeping a safe distance of one meter. Sylvester turned to face Ano this time, but as he did the two began to move back into position. Sylvester sighed, seeing how annoying they were going to be, and instead turned to face the spirit. Canis Minor, to his surprise, was sitting handsomely just outside of the range of Lavender Fields.

Great, Sylvester thought to himself. I'm totally going to forget about that guy, aren't I? Better try and keep him in line of sight the whole time, and let my hands do the blocking.

Sylvester stretched his back, first towards Ano and then towards Emanuel, and then locked eyes with the wolf. He smirked to himself, and had two of his hands give each of the boys a taunt.
