Chapter 9 - Extremely urgent

Back at the company, busy until evening.

Gu Beixian loosened his tie with a lift of his hand, his eyes cool as he looked towards his assistant, "Did you find out what I asked you to?"

The assistant replied, "President Gu, Shen Huai doesn't have a nickname. His family just calls him Shen Huai or Little Huai."

A trace of coldness in Gu Beixian's eyes seemed to dissipate, as if this was expected.

Ah-Yao is the man deeply buried in Su Hua's heart; before her divorce, she wouldn't casually be seen with him in public.

She's young, but always acts with proper measure.

Gu Beixian pushed his chair back, stood up, and with one hand buttoned up his suit, saying, "Someone else will attend the dinner with President Huo tonight, I have other matters to attend to."

"Understood, President Gu." The assistant began organizing the documents on the desk.

Leaving the Gu Corporation building, Gu Beixian drove to the antique street.

As the sun set and the sky darkened, he sat in his car and called Su Hua, "I'm outside your shop, come out."

Su Hua's voice came through the phone with a hint of surprise, "We're out eating, a colleague's dinner gathering."

"Who's all there?"

"Everyone from the shop."

"Is Shen Huai there too?"

"Mhm, he's the young master of our shop."

Thinking of the two chatting and laughing together at noon, a subtle displeasure began to rise in Gu Beixian's heart, yet his voice remained calm, "Call me when you're done, I'll come pick you up."

"Thank you." Her tone was restrained and distant, as if deliberately keeping a distance from him.

Gu Beixian felt a bit uncomfortable listening to her, his grip on the phone tightening slightly.

After ending the call, he dialed Xiao Yi's number, "Come out, let's drink."

"My brother, it's so early, you want to drink now?" Xiao Yi's voice was lazy and indulgent, as if he had just woken up.

Gu Beixian's voice was crisp and deep, "Bring the company seal and the land sale contract, be at Today's Drunken Restaurant within half an hour, don't be late."

Xiao Yi shook off his sleepiness, "Alright! Brother, I'll be right there!"

Half an hour later, at Today's Drunken Restaurant, Drunken Fragrance Pavilion.

The room was bustling with people, busy signing contracts, completing procedures, and transferring funds.

After the work was done, everyone left, leaving only Gu Beixian and Xiao Yi.

The fair and handsome man lounged in his seat, his arm loosely draped over the back of the chair, his beautiful peach blossom eyes sizing up Gu Beixian, "Feeling down?"

Gu Beixian took a sip of his drink, his tone nonchalant, "Not really."

His hand holding the glass was cold, white, and slender, almost too beautiful.

"Jeez, you're out here drinking sullenly and you say 'not really'? When others are feeling down, they go out to find women for pleasure, but you, you go and buy a plot of land. Big spender. Next time you're feeling down, remember to find me, The Old Master still has a few plots of land in his hands," Xiao Yi teased.

"Don't treat me like a cash cow. I was planning to sign this contract anyway, just a week early," Gu Beixian put down his glass.

Xiao Yi picked up the white porcelain bottle to refill his drink, "I heard Chu Suosuo is back in the country, you two have been getting quite close lately?"

Gu Beixian's eyelids flicked, "If you have something to say, say it directly."

"Su Hua is a good girl, don't let her down," Xiao Yi looked at him seriously for once.

Gu Beixian tapped his fingers lightly on the table, smiling faintly, "Back when I wanted to marry her, who was it that despised her to death, saying she wasn't good enough for me? What's changed now?"

"Back then, I thought she was greedy and vain, willing to marry anyone for money. Later, I realized that wasn't the case; she genuinely cared for you. Any gold-digger would have taken the money and run in a short time, not slaving away to take care of you for so long."

Gu Beixian's deep eyes darkened, "She is quite good."

"Then why are you still..."

Gu Beixian looked down, his gaze fixed on the clear liquor in his glass, his voice very faint, "A fine young lady, forced by her family's financial troubles, married me three years ago. She never said it, but she must have felt wronged. After wronging her for three years, I don't want to continue doing so."

Xiao Yi was surprised, "Is that why you want to divorce her?"

"Pretty much."

Xiao Yi felt regretful, "Such a good girl, can you really let her go?"

"What else can I do?" Gu Beixian's expression was impassive, but a dark shadow lurked in his eyes.

I can't keep her trapped by my side, watching her suffer through nightmares, calling out for her Brother Ah-Yao in her sleep.

I can't stand to see her in pain.

Nor can I tolerate the humiliation; I'm a man, one who can't stand sand in his eyes.

But when it comes to letting go, I can't bear to.

Quite a contradiction.

Gu Beixian brought the glass to his lips and downed the remaining liquor.

The strong spirit was like a knife, slicing through his throat.

Stuck in his chest, it burned.

Suddenly, there was a knock at the door.

Xiao Yi called out, "Come in."

The visitor pushed the door and entered.

An oval face, delicate features, dressed in a white chiffon princess blouse with bubble sleeves tucked into a tight skirt, adorned with a full set of Cartier jewelry, a Chanel coat draped over one arm, and carrying an Hermès ostrich leather bag.

It was Chu Suosuo.

Seeing her, Gu Beixian's eyes cooled slightly, "How did you get here?"

Chu Suosuo swayed her slender waist, walking behind him with a coquettish gait, her arm draped over the back of his chair, leaning in, her lips brushing his ear, her breath fragrant, "I heard Brother Beixian was here for dinner, so I came to say hello."

Gu Beixian's ear tickled from her warm breath, he shifted to the side to avoid her, and seeing that she had no intention of leaving, he said emotionlessly, "Take a seat."

"Thank you, Brother Beixian." Chu Suosuo pulled out a chair to sit down, draping her coat over the back of the chair.

The waiter immediately set a place for her.

Gu Beixian pushed the menu towards her, "Order whatever you want."

Chu Suosuo glanced at the full table of dishes, pushed the menu away, and smiled sweetly, "No need to order, I love everything Brother Beixian loves."

Xiao Yi rubbed his arms, feeling goosebumps all over.

Chu Suosuo turned a plate of sweet shrimp towards herself, her big eyes brimming with water as she looked at Gu Beixian, "Brother Beixian, I want to eat shrimp."

Xiao Yi pursed his lips, "Don't you have hands?"

Chu Suosuo puffed her cheeks, looking aggrieved, "I've never peeled shrimp myself, my parents always did it for me. When I used to dine out with Brother Beixian, he would peel them for me."

She reached out, caressing Gu Beixian's arm coquettishly, her voice dripping with sweetness, "Brother Beixian, I want to eat the shrimp you peel, please peel them for me."

Gu Beixian glanced at her from the corner of his eye, withdrew his arm, put on a disposable glove, and started peeling a shrimp from the plate.

For some reason, the image of Su Hua peeling shrimp for him came to mind.

Her hands were skillful, the shrimp meat peeled out, leaving the shell intact.

He had tried several times but never succeeded.

Once he finished peeling one, he pinched the shrimp meat and placed it on the plate in front of Chu Suosuo.

Suddenly, Chu Suosuo leaned down, catching the shrimp in her mouth, deliberately including his fingers.

Her tongue lightly circled his fingertip, sucking and kissing.

Her eyes, wet and full of longing, gazed at him, filled with desire.

Quickly releasing his finger, she smiled seductively, bit into the shrimp, and said softly, "The shrimp peeled by Brother Beixian is so delicious."

Gu Beixian's expression paused momentarily, uncertain of his feelings.

He removed the disposable glove and tossed it aside.

He then picked up a disinfectant towel from the table and wiped the finger she had sucked.

Xiao Yi felt goosebumps all over, wanting to slap her away. She's already flirting shamelessly before the divorce is even finalized!

Flirting in front of him, treating him like he's invisible?

Xiao Yi grabbed his phone and sent a text to Su Hua: Sister-in-law, your husband's drunk and acting crazy, not in his right mind, come pick him up. We're at Today's Drunken Restaurant, on the third floor in Drunken Fragrance Pavilion.

Su Hua was at the Kyoto Grand Hotel dining with colleagues when she received the message and called Xiao Yi to get more details.

Because Gu Beixian had always been good with his liquor, she had never seen him act out while drunk.

The phone rang once before Xiao Yi hung up.

Su Hua pulled up Gu Beixian's number, about to dial.

Suddenly, another text from Xiao Yi popped up: Sister-in-law, come quickly! ASAP! Extremely urgent!

Su Hua's heart skipped a beat.
