speed running quests

The next morning, I awoke with a sense of deep satisfaction, and the fatigue and aches in my body had significantly lessened.

I had already prepared a to-do list for today, and the first task was to summon a live animal from Earth, perhaps a mouse or a rabbit.

Alright, let's go with a mouse. I really hope it doesn't undergo any mutations and transform into a monstrous creature.

'If I don't give it a shot, I'll never find out,' so with some trepidation, I whispered, 'Summon mouse.'

After a few moments, a bright light emitted a glow, and a white mouse materialized near my feet.

It curiously surveyed the room and emitted a squeak in my direction.

This mouse was peculiar. It didn't run away, even after I had touched it. "Hey, do you understand me?" I asked the mouse.

It looked at me and squeaked again. "If you can understand me, nod your head," I told it.

The mouse actually nodded its head and looked at me curiously. 'Wow, now I can speak mouse language too,' I mused to myself.

Now, let's see if you mutate or not. I instructed the mouse to stay in the room and gave it some treats.

'Okay, now we just have to wait and see.'

After Valcy woke up, we headed towards the mercenary guild of that town. I wanted to take some quests that might helped me increase my level.

After walking for a while, we finally reached the Doon Kingdom mercenary branch. The building was built from limestone and wood, and at the entrance, a large insignia of the 'doon mercenary' was carved.

After we set foot inside the building, I saw a few mercenaries already gathered and checking the quest board for missions.

To take any quests from this mercenary guild, we needed to register with them first. I wasn't the one who was going to register, though, as sharing information about their class was necessary with the mercenary guilds.

Valcy would register there, and I would just be registered as her errand boy.

Just after we approached the counter, a brown-skinned woman in a formal black and white uniform greeted us politely, "good morning. My name is Ela. Welcome to the Doons Mercenary Guild. How may I help you?"

"Good morning. I am Valcy Moon Heart, from the Great Forest continent, and I would like to register as a mercenary at your guild," said Valcy to the receptionist.

The receptionist was momentarily dazed after Valcy took off her head scarf. Some mercenaries were also giving her curious glances. It was common knowledge that elven mercenaries were very rare in LuxContinent.

"Ahem, Good to have you here, Miss Valcy. Please place your hands on the appraiser orb," requested the receptionist.

After Valcy placed her hands on the appraiser orb, a blue light glowed from it.

"Wow, an advanced level, and your class is ranger; I will issue your card right away," she exclaimed in amazement.

After a while, the receptionist gave Valcy a metal card with the mercenary logo on it. The card had the imprints of her name and class.

'Wow, that's a high-quality card. Do they have laser printing technologies?' I thought in wonderment. Even though this world is weird and is backward in scientific development compared to Earth, it has magic that is beyond the comprehension of my earthly mind.

After Valcy thanked the receptionist, we headed towards the quest board. It looked like most of the easy quests had already been taken; I saw only the advanced tier and above quests still on the board."

Fetch quest B tier

The most eye-catching quest was the S-tier quest.

Subjugation Quest, S Tier

Kill the bone dragon of the undead valley.

Tier required: S-tier mercenaries and above.

Reward: 100 gold coins from the Ehat high priest.

It looked like this town lacked blessed mercenaries who were B-tier and above.

"I don't think I am ready for an S-tier quest yet, but B-tier fetch quest rewards looks damn attractive, and I know just the right equipment that would help us accomplish our quest," I informed Valcy. "Actually, take that subjugation quest too."

We ended up taking two B-tier quests; the other mercenaries gave us weird glances, probably thinking that we were underestimating the quest difficulties.

Just as we made our way to the exit, a brown-skinned man with bulging muscles and mohawk hair approached us.

"Hey there, my name is Smakalot, a C-tier swordsman and a local of this wonderful town. I believed that a noble ranger needs a real vanguard with muscle to protect her; I wished to join your party," he said with a condescending smirk on his face. He was obviously looking down on my scrawny body. Compared to him, I really looked like a twig, 'but who cared? A bullet to the head for a C-tier ranker was all it would take to kill him in an instance.'

Valcy gave him a side-eyed glance for a second. "Sorry, we don't need anyone right now," she informed him.

Smakalot looked annoyed but didn't say anything else.

Valcy was a smart girl for rejecting him; she was probably thoughtful about hiding my secrets, and for myself, I preferred beautiful girls more than muscle-brained, mohawk men. Well, some might have called me sexist, but I was a man of culture, and I loved women.

After we bought a map of the surroundings, we headed toward the exit gate of the city.

At the gate, we met the same guard from yesterday. After he found out we were registered as mercenaries, he informed us that he wouldn't be charging us any fee for entrance.

Again, we had to walk a few miles from the town to hide my summoning abilities.

After we had distanced ourselves sufficiently from any prying eyes, I brought out the Rezvani Vengeance from the inventory. 'We missed you, stolen vehicle from Earth,' I mused to myself.

We needed to return to the city before 18 hours today because I needed to check on that mouse.

After we got inside the car, we turned on the compass and started our journey toward the Ena Oasis. My urge to shoot some worms was tingling.

Thanks to the car, we reached our destination in just 2 hours; compared to walking or a camel, it would have taken us at least 12 hours.

The Ena Oasis was quite large, maybe 30 by 40 yards of green vegetation. We stopped at the edge of the oasis.

The thing about desert worms was that they liked infesting oases and eating all the green vegetation within a month or two.

I thought that the oasis still looked good; maybe the worms hadn't been infesting for a long time.

"Get ready, Valcy; it's time to murder some worms," I informed her, and I took out our weapons from my inventory and handed over the sniper rifle to her. I thought using incendiary rounds would be overkill for some bugs, 'but who cares? We have more Taliban's and ISIS to loot from,' I mused to myself.

We then equipped all our gear and vests, as well as the military helmets that I had summoned. This time, our enemy was some alien worms that could shoot corrosive acid that could do serious damage to your skin, and strong enough to melt clothes and metal.

Just after we set foot in the oasis, we found our first worm chomping on a coconut tree. It was the size of a domestic cat on Earth. The worm had a bright green color, a small mouth filled with sharp teeth, and tiny horns on its head.

I let Valcy shoot it, and after it was hit, it splattered green blood all around its surroundings. 'It was pretty gross to see.'

I hoped the tiny horns were still intact; we needed to show proof that we had eliminated them.

I looked around the place where the worm had blown off, and luckily, I found a horn.

After collecting the tiny horn inside a bag, we carefully advanced toward the inner area of the oasis.

As we got closer to the center of the oasis, we discovered that the numbers of worms were increasing; even the size of the worms was becoming larger, and some had already half-eaten trees and plants.

We shot each and every worm that we saw and collected their horns.

The worms were slow, but their range of spitting acids was quite impressive. They could shoot corrosive acid up to 10 or 12 feet. We had to keep our distance from the worms, and before crossing any trees, we had to carefully check each branch all the time. Due to this, it took us almost an hour to reach the inner area of the oasis, and there were a gross number of larvae and worms all crawling from inside a large elephant-like corpse.

So, this was the infected animal, and it smelled horrible too. I knew something that might make this quicker.

Yeah, time for some flamethrowers. After a while, I summoned two flamethrowers straight up from a factory on earth.

"Okay, put this on your back," I instructed Valcy. She looked confused but still followed my instructions.

After strapping the fuel tanks to our backs, I had to show Valcy a demonstration of how to operate the flamethrower.

Her jaw almost dropped after seeing fire spray out of the muzzle, which almost instantly cooked the worms, and some worms blasted from the fire.

"Wow, this looks like a lesser version of a red dragon's breath," she said in amazement.

"There is a lot more to see if you stay with me," I said to her with a smirk on my face.

"Okay now, try it out; just don't point that thing at me," I said to her.

Then, together, we started roasting the worms surrounding the large corpse.

After we finished burning all the Larvae that were surrounding the large corpse, we then started roasting the large, rotten corpse. Its body started wriggling as if there was something that wanted to break free from the inside.

"Step back; there is something coming out," warned Valcy.

After an intense wriggling from its rotten flesh, the stomach flesh tore open, and slowly, a creature emerged as large as a minivan and had a look that screamed a house fly and a wasp made an ugly baby.

"Holy sh*t, is that a large wasp or a house fly?" I said it out loud.

"Shoot that thing before it flies off; that's a larva queen," Valcy urgently said.

After snapping out of my stupor, I swiftly handed Valcy's sniper rifle to her and began dousing it with the flamethrower. It seemed that the flamethrower wasn't dealing much damage; instead, it intensified the creature's screeching.

I realized it was headed straight for me, perhaps furious that we had killed its offspring. 'Damn it, there was no information about the larva queen in the quest.'

In an instant, it was about to charge me. 'Boom!' Valcy shot off its wings using incendiary rounds. "Yeah, that's a good shot, baby," I exclaimed with delight.

"I am not a baby; I am an adult elf," she corrected me. My choice of words had clearly left her perplexed. Yeah, why would she understand pop culture references? They didn't exist in this world.

"'Baby' is also a term for a charming lady where I'm from; now, let's take down that monster before it ends us," I urgently explained to her.

I realized I had an assault rifle as well, so I swiftly stowed the flamethrower in my inventory, pulled out the scar-L, and we both began firing at the alien wasp.

Its wings and legs suffered swift damage, yet it relentlessly crawled toward us, emitting ceaseless screeches.

Only when we blew off the larva queen's head did it finally cease its movements. We cautiously approached to examine the remains.

"It would have required at least a B-rank party with three rangers to bring down this larva queen, but thanks to your weapons, it was quite manageable," Valcy remarked, satisfied.

'I guess guns can significantly elevate your threat level,' I thought.

"What should we do with this carcass? I don't recall any rewards or quests related to a larva queen on the quest board," I inquired of Valcy.

"We should extract its venom; alchemists would likely buy it," Valcy proposed.

A larva queen of this size should yield 2 or 3 liters of venom. Yeah, alright, let's proceed," I agreed.

I had to conjure a 4-liter empty glass container instead, as the acidic venom had easily melted through the plastic one.

After collecting the venom along with a plethora of worm horns, we left the oasis and set out for our next destination.

On the way, I checked my status again.

‘This was great,’ I gained two levels just by killing some worms today.

For our next quest, we needed gas masks.

While on the way, we ate some Earth lunches and drank some chilled beers.

Thirteen was the legal drinking age in this world, so I drank two cans by myself, and 'Valcy being Valcy, she drank at least 5 cans by herself' and didn't show any sign of being drunk; her alcohol tolerance was quite high.

After 3 hours of driving, we finally neared the cactus oasis. We had to stop a mile away this time because the toxic gas in the air from the poisonous cacti was potent enough to kill just by breathing it in.

After we put on our gas masks, we resumed driving.

After a few minutes, we reached the cactus oasis and then started harvesting the cacti and storing them in a large bag. The cactus biome in the oasis was quite small, only 15 by 20 yards.

"I think this will suffice; we have already collected 100 pounds," I informed Valcy.

We had cut down almost all the cacti from the biome; I didn't want this resource to go extinct, as the city alchemist relied on it, so we stopped cutting down more cacti.

It took us another 2 hours to travel back to the city. After storing the car in my inventory, we had to walk again with our loot. At the entrance, we just needed to show the mercenary batch, and we were unimpeded by the guards.

I wasn't in a hurry to claim our reward from the quest, so we headed back to the inn.

On returning to the room, I quickly searched for my live mouse to inspect it; luckily, the mouse was still inside the room eating the treat.

As I approached, it only looked at me curiously and showed no sign of running away. "Hey there, little guy, are you enjoying your day?" I said to the mouse. The mouse still looked the same, with no exaggerated mutations on its body.

"Is that your little live summon from the morning? It looks like its aura spiked a little," Valcy informed me.

'Wait what'

Check the summons description.

"Shit, it absorbed mana," I exclaimed.

"You mean this mouse is blessed?" she said in amazement.

"Yeah, will there be a problem later?" I asked her.

She informed me that if the summoner died, the summons died or got summoned back to their dimension.

Huh, that's convenient. At least I didn't need to worry about my pollution. If I died, everything I summoned would get dumped back to Earth.

Now I would need to convince any summoned humans from Earth that killing me might not be a good thing for them. I was sure they would want to exchange their services for things that this world could offer.

In the worst-case scenario, I would just send them back to Earth by reverse summons.

If animals from Earth could survive in this dimension, I thought it was time for human trials. I would think about who to summon tomorrow.

For now, I was damn exhausted. I just wanted a warm bath and a nice dinner.

"Okay, little guy, I am sending you back to Earth. Just try not to die. Your future is limitless with me," I informed the mouse before I reverse summoned it back to Earth.

This mouse was actually living in an abandoned house before it got summoned. It just needed to stay away from cats and birds to stay alive, or maybe I didn't need to worry because this mouse had become smart enough to understand me and also absorb magic. Maybe sending it back to Earth was not a good idea; what if it was radioactive? I hoped not.

'This risk is for the future of Earth, if sentient dimension travel is possible with my summoning ability, Earth's society will have a lot to gain from this new world,' I consulted myself.

No risk, no return, right?
