Chapter 12

"I guess so," Wei Xiaodan doesn't feel like refuting anymore. He knew arguing over useless stuff would only waste his time.

Wei Xiaodan crawled out from the bed, and began searching for the door.

Mevis predicted such a thing and wasn't surprised anymore. Wei Xiaodan was truly a stubborn one. With a frown, Mevis finally asked, "Are you going to try and cross the other border again? What's wrong with you? Did you forget that you almost lost your life. If I didn't saved you in time, you would be a corpse now."

"Better than doing nothing." Wei Xiaodan said with a deep meaningful smile. "But why did you saved me again? I thought you would never lend me a hand again if something happens?"

"It would only be this once. There won't be another."

Wei Xiaodan shrugged his shoulders and said, "Wasn't there a saying, if you were given a second life, you should put it to a proper use? That's what I'm doing right now."

"You cannot cross the other border with stubborness alone. You need a true strength."

Wei Xioadan sneered and said mockingly, "There's nothing I can do about that. After all, I'm just a measly human. Even if I desire to get stronger, it wouldn't be a reality unless I train. Also, our body's too fragile. Even a falling giant boulder kill us, let alone weak creatures."

"That's why I'm telling you to become my disciple. Are you deaf?" Mevis said with a frown.

"I'm not insane enough to trust the words of a devil. Where would you find one who'll willingly trust a devil, with horns on its forehead?"

"That's discriminating, did you know?"

"So what?" Wei Xiaodan finally decided to fold things. He bowed his head to Mevis after finding the door to the outside, and continued, "I appreciate that you've saved my life a second time, however, I really can't become your disciple. I promise to pay back this debt if I could leave this place still in one piece."

Wei Xiaodan opened the door and walked out. His departing back made the devil burst into another fit of laughter.

"He never ceased to amuse me." Mevis licked his lips and stared deeply into his departing back. Like a child who's addicted to a newly released candy, his eyes were brimming with heart shapes.

Wei Xiaodan walked out of the room with an uneasy feeling. Although he wanted to return to earth, it seemed an impossible task unless he accepted the offer of the devil and really became stronger than he was now.

Returning to where he left off, Wei Xiaodan spared a glance to the black tree on top of the mountain. Just like earlier, not a single flame was touching the black tree. It gives him an impression of it being mysterious.

After thinking about it for so long, Wei Xiaodan finally decided to take a step forward. And immediately, his body lit on fire.

"Urgh…." Wei Xiaodan groaned painfully as he clenched his teeth. He brought his foots forward again while enduring the pain, as a groan naturally escapes from his lips.

By the 10th step, Wei Xiaodan stopped at his track, and began panting heavily. He rested his arms on top his legs, amd stared to the never ending road, still couldn't see the end of it.

At this moment, Wei Xioadan suddenly realized something. Last time, whenever he was taking a step forward, the temperature would increase gradually, giving him less time to think. But now that he had only taken up to 10 tiled of steps, the temperature stopped increasing and remained at its current state.

"Strange. Could it be that the temperature would increase at every step?" Wei Xiaodan seemed to realized the point, and when he tried to see the end of the road, his brows tremble still not being able to see it's end. "I'll probably die before I could return to earth then."

Although he didn't want to admit it, reaching the end seemed to be an impossibility. Even though he had only taken 10 steps so far, his mind was already at the state where it's about to break.

"What would happen if I step backward?" Now that he knew that there's no point in going forward, since nobody would save him for another time, Wei Xiaodan started researching about the strangeness of the other side.

Fortunately, no danger occured when he did took a step backward. Instead, the heat torturing his body lessened, and also some of his already charcoaled skin began recovering it's color.

"Then, can I cope with this heat and get used to it? If it really becomes dangerous, I could just retreat. So, it wasn't really a problem doing so. Rather than doing nothing and wait for my demise, I guess this would be a better choice then." Wei Xiaodan sat on the ground, the dirt touched his clothes but he paid no mind over it. And when he finally gained a little amount of focus, he started meditating on the ground.

The heat was burning his body continuously, but it wasn't affecting the temperature. Unless he really do take a step forward, only then the heat would get even more intense.

What Wei Xioadan was trying to do was an impossible thing. Because he wants the cell inside his body to cope over the temperature swirling around. Although his stomach was growling from hunger, he could only endure it. Of course, the same thing works for the heat as well. As he grew even more starved, his stamina decreased inconsiderably as well as his endurance. But at this point, he realized he's growing stronger. Stronger every minutes that passed.

Days and nights came, he never left his seat, and deeply focused on keeping his head sanity. If the same thing happens to others, then surely, they would have lost their mind and killed themselves. But just who is he? He's Wei Xiaodan, the man who's vengeance for gods will never fade. Unless the existence of gods ceased to exist, only then would his growth stopped continuing.

By the time Wei Xiaodan woke up, his body was glowing under the heat in some kind of visible golden flames. His tolerance over the heat had already skyrocketed, and the temperature could no longer torture him.

"How long has it been…?" Wei Xiaodan stared at the sky, his eyes full of sorrow. The sky was still bathed in crimson blood, which made him frown his brows a little. At this moment, he's starting to missed the Earth. While he was meditating, there were times he would see his family's death over and over again. Over those times, his thirst for vengeance grew even more vicious before he knew it.
