Chapter 6: Potion Selector, Suspicion

Chapter 6: Potion Selector, Suspicion

He could only facepalm because this system is always quite direct to the point but is also very weird. 'Why not just let me allocate my points instead of being so conspicuous?' Feng could only sneer as he thought of this.

He saw the labels in the vending machine interface and saw that it matches the currently available attributes in his status screen. Actually, there were only three available products despite the big interface. There were quite a lot of spaces with nothing on it.

Feng wondered if they are going to add more stuff in the future. It was quite weird that he had to use a vending machine, though.

He tried getting one of Strength Potion. The art design is that of a famous energy drink with a bull on it.

The vending machine functioned as it slowly moved the strength potion to the pickup box area. When he saw the machine stopped, he could only scratch his head as he tried to grab the 2D image of an energy drink and he felt his hand actually holding the drink.

It was quite mysterious. There was nothing in the air, but when he touched it, the image became solid.

Feng's eyes could only pop out as the thing looked exactly as the bottle of that famous bull energy drink except the label says "STRENGTH POT".

He opened the Strength Potion and tried to smell the content. It smells exactly like an energy drink. He could only take a swig to see the effects.

The taste was quite nostalgic. It tasted exactly how imagined it to be.

[Strength +1]

A small pop up appeared. "It really works!" Feng gleefully said as he looked at the bottle. It seems to be that way despite being very weird. His golden finger functionality is quite reliable.

"Now the problem is, how do I dispose of the bottle?" Feng could only look at the bottle and thought of something.

Feng took a bite, and it was hard but brittle. Surprisingly, it tasted sweet.

'Is this a candy glass bottle?' Feng said in astonishment. He easily ate the whole thing because it was a pretty small bottle.

He looked at the vending machine interface as he contemplated. He did not know why the potion selector was so elaborate, but he did not have any words. It was quite delicious to get attributes in such a mysterious way.

Feng used the first quest reward bonus as well and all-in on the Strength Potions.

He clicked the button multiple times, and the machine immediately brought the potions to the drop area.

Feng took a swig left and right. He did not know if he could overdose on these 'energy drinks'. He will not know if he did not try. He also snacked on some bottles as he drinks another bottle.

[Strength +1]

[Strength +1]

[Strength +1]

[Strength +1]

[Strength +1]

"Status." Feng excitedly murmured.

[Feng Lv.1 [0/10]]

[Title: Cruel Wolf Killer]

[STR: 17]

[INT: 10]

[END: 13]

[Skills: Appraisal Lv.1, Danger Sense Lv.1]

Feng felt endless strength overflowing his body as he gained a whole 6 strength attribute from this potion drinking session.... Or not.

He actually felt nothing new. He did not even feel his hunger and thirst quenched despite being able to drink and taste the potion's sweetness.

Feng could only throw a punch in the air. He heard the air 'Swoosh' as he punched. It was definitely stronger since it felt like there was a sound effect.

He was not sure if this was just his imagination, but he could only experiment more later, as he was still supposed to be a weak patient.

He looked at the Title section on his status screen and could not help but smile wryly as he remembered this title name "Cruel Wolf Killer". He did not know what this title does, but since he had an extra strength point, he wondered if the title had that kind of effect.

In games, getting titles with effects is one of the most sought functions since they usually boost the game character's power just by having the title. Some give powerful buffs, but there are also titles that give horrendous debuffs. Buffs gives a boost in power and debuffs is the negative counterpart.

Feng did not know if the +1 strength was from the title. He could only pray that it was since the title name sounds ominous.

After doing all of that, Feng could only go back to rest a bit more. His body is alright now but his mental still needs recovery.

In Mr. Wang's office room, one could see two men sitting in front of each other while sipping tea.

"Mr. Wang, what do you think of that boy? A normal human rarely survives a rabid wolf attack, much less a young boy that doesn't even have any offensive capability." Doctor Liang curiously said.

Mr. Wang heard this, as he could only frown while sipping his tea. "All of us have their own secrets and encounters. I would never reach this point of my life if I had nothing that could back me up. As for that boy, I also don't know what methods he used to survive. I already sent a scout to check the situation over there."

The author's content has been appropriated; report any instances of this story on Amazon.

Doctor Liang contemplated, as he nodded. He continued, "I'm curious how he did it, but I'm far more interested in how he survives such grave injuries. Any people would already be dead if they received such deep wounds. That young boy might fool people, but as a doctor, I've studied multiple cadavers with similar wounds."

Doctor Liang was excited as he sipped tea to wet his parched throat.

"As for this young man, his wounds are already not bleeding once he arrived. In fact, his wounds are already closing. That is far beyond human regeneration. A wound like that could only recover slowly for weeks to months before it properly closes. I wonder what kind of encounter he had?" Doctor Liang said in wonder, as he did not expect such a case in the middle of the boonies.

Mr. Wang could only shake his head as he said, "We'll wait for my subordinate to return and think more after that."

The two men went silent and only sipped tea as they waited for the scout to return.

After a few hours, the scout arrived in a haste as they entered the door without even knocking.

"Sir Wang, I have something important to report!" The scout immediately said as they found the two men in the room.

Mr. Wang could only nod with expectation.

"As per your instruction, I went near the danger area to scout whether there is a new situation regarding the wolf's movements in the gathering areas. After arriving, clear marks of claw scratches are seen all over the area. Disturbance of the environment such as trampled grass, plants, and soil footprints were also discovered in the vicinity."

"After looking around for a while, there was no sight of the wolf, so I deliberately took action despite the risk and entered the area. I followed the traces and discovered that traces of a battle between a person and a beast could be seen along the way to a steep cliff. However, that was not the main information from my survey."

The scour gulped in fear as he prepared to continue.

"The scariest part of my survey is that after looking around. The traces of the wolf were gone and there were only the human's footsteps on the way to the bottom of the cliff. I could only follow the remaining traces. Once I arrived at the bottom of the cliff, I saw a corpse of a white-furred wolf covered in its own blood. There was a strange smell in the air, but I could only conclude that it was a smelly herb mixed with the stench of wolf's blood."

The scout exhaustedly concluded his report.

Mr. Wang and Doctor Liang could only feel shocked as they could not almost believe the things that they just heard.

That young man killed the wolf that was causing trouble to the village mountain for the past few weeks!

They had a conjecture that Feng could miraculously escape the claws of the beast through some methods, but they would never think that Feng actually killed a wolf by himself.

This guy is only an herb gatherer, not a trained knight that could go toe in toe with the horrid strength of the beasts. Maybe even a village guard has a miniscule of chance against a wolf, but he would never believe it if someone told them that a young boy with no training fought a wolf and won with herb gathering tools.

That was way beyond comprehension. Mr. Wang's mouth could only pop out open as Doctor Liang could only feel shocked too.

After digesting the news, Mr. Wang ordered the scout to prepare some men to retrieve the wolf's carcass. They could only better take in the reality if they see the body with their own eyes.

The men of the Wang's residence immediately set off while the two could only sit back while contemplating.

Another round of waiting happened, as the two could only look at each other with anticipation.

----------------------------------------

It was already dusk when his men arrived. They were carrying the carcass of the wolf in a horse-pulled wagon.

The two of them were informed that the carcass had arrived. Mr. Wang and Doctor Liang nodded at each other, as they could finally see the beast with their own eyes.

A man removed the large hide covering the wagon and saw the majestic wolf carcass. One could see its beautiful white fur tainted by its own red blood, but the horrible injuries it sustained distracted them even more.

Doctor Liang immediately went to check out the body as he frowned. These violent injuries could only be done through a certain amount of impact. He noticed the wolf was also bleeding on its orifices but the main thing that interested him was the mutilated eye of the wolf.

It was like someone repeatedly stabbed it cruelly. The stabs were not even accurate as it was all over the eye area.

One would usually be in fear and awe in front of such beast, but Doctor Liang could only feel pity.

Mr. Wang also saw the state of the wolf with shining eyes and could only shake his head. He nodded to Doctor Liang and said, "Good work, everyone. Bring the carcass to the storage and we will transfer it to the town later."

Mr. Wang and Doctor Liang went back inside, and they could see each other's grave look.

"That beast is not the usual wolf you can find in the mountains. If I remember correctly, this is an Albino Mountain Wolf recorded in the Beast Encyclopedia. According to the records, every beast, even the common beast, has an extremely rare chance of mutating their bloodline. Once this happens, they will awaken the ability to cultivate mana and ascend to the ranks of magic beast." Doctor Liang said as he tried to remember his studies while scratching his head.

"Based on what I've seen, this wolf had yet reached its adulthood and separated from its pack because of its abnormality. Usually, wolf packs abide by the superior alpha and since this wolf is still quite young, it must have gotten itself abandoned so that it would not contend to its leadership. However, this is only a conjecture, and it doesn't really matter since it's already dead." Doctor Liang explained and clarified to Mr. Wang.

Mr. Wang nodded his head and said, "I know what you are trying to get at. If the wolf didn't die today, the village might've encountered a calamity once it reaches its adulthood. That thing could easily massacre everyone here. A magic beast.... Everyone knows how eerily strong they are, and normal people have no chance of defeating them. A group of knights are to surround this kind of beast just to even withstood a chance."

Doctor Liang gravely nodded as he agreed with Mr. Wang. They did not expect that such a coincidence happened. It was quite the story to tell already.

Mr. Wang stopped and looked at the window as he saw his people working outside.

He abruptly said, "I have plans for this matter. I need you to follow me to the Village Chief and explain."

Doctor Liang nodded, as he also had the same idea. He was also quite interested in this matter and wanted to continue investigating. The whole magic beast is indeed interesting, but the center of this whole debacle interests him the most.

----------------------------------------

The next morning, Feng woke up, as he felt a lot better. His wound was still there, but he could finally move around his arm better.

He went out of the room and saw three people in the lobby area. Feng knew the three of them but wondered why they were there, so he went forward to pay his respects.

The three people were talking about general matters and suddenly stopped when they saw Feng had already woken up.

"Feng, we need to talk about something." Mr. Wang said as he beckoned for Feng to sit with them.

Feng was curious about what they wanted to talk about. 'Was it because of the 10 silver coins? I hope they won't take it back...'

He sat at the side and noticed that the three were staring at him like he was a rare animal.

"Cough cough." Mr. Wang immediately broke the ice as he looked at the village chief.

"Kiddo, on behalf of the village, I thank you for defeating the dangerous beast that almost became the end of the village."

The kind-looking old man said sincerely as he stood up and bowed to Feng.

Feng could only look in confusion as he did not understand what the village chief meant by this.

"We already brought the wolf's carcass into custody that you left beneath the cliff. We sent men yesterday because we needed to confirm the situation there. We also harvested the rare herbs, and you don’t have to worry about your rightful compensation." Mr. Wang explained, as he knew that Feng must have not realized the situation yet.

Feng heard this and finally understood what they are getting at. He nodded to them and said, "There's no need for thanks. I was merely doing my best to complete the job and was lucky enough to beat the young wolf."

"Lucky you say." Doctor Liang said as he raised an eyebrow and gestured at Mr. Wang.

"I would like to hear the details regarding what happened if it's not too much for you." Mr. Wang implored to Feng.
