Chapter 1: Welcome to the Starter Village

Chapter 1: Welcome to the Starter Village

Feng, a totally normal peasant in the boondocks, is currently lying in the grass field with a piece of grass in his mouth. Based on his current expression, Feng is suffering from a severe disease called ‘boredom’.

‘The sky looks beautiful in this world. The fresh air fills my lung, every breathe is very refreshing. The only thing missing is me flying around, enjoying the heights, and seeing the beauty of the land from above.’

Feng mutters as he chews on the piece of grass out of boredom.

The matters in the world are definitely unpredictable as a young man at the peak of his age finishes up his tertiary education, ready to join the engaging world of real-life society. However, as soon as he woke up from his deep, satisfying sleep, he found out that the world had already changed.

‘A person of today can easily change and be a totally different person tomorrow. The human heart is truly as unpredictable as the world.’

A belief that Feng always live by as he encounters different people in his daily life. However, he did not expect that the world would be as fickle as a human heart. It is very unscientific as the moment he woke up; he finds himself in a totally different, creaky old bed. His room looking decrepit as he heard creepy crawlies at the ceiling.

It is truly unbelievable, as a man of science, left speechless since he already had an idea of what happened.

Several lines were omitted as the frustrated Feng swears on the world that he still had a lot of anime and novels to consume back in the old world.

After a few hours of contemplation and wonder, he accepted the fact that he truly got into another world by accident or some schemes of who knows what they want him to do.

“As the wisdom of the ancestors says, go with the flow.” Feng said while wryly smiling on the piece of old looking bronze mirror, looking at his appearance.

Even his looks are the same!

He did not know whether to laugh or cry since he had some expectations of enjoying a new blessed countenance that will be his new source of income and live a life of a gigolo.

Feng left disappointed as he coped on him not having to adjust to having a new face since he had his usual averageness.

Moving on, he found out that he was currently living in a small place that looked like an abandoned home. The painting was peeling away and the layer of dusts… One could only feel breathless, literally...

As for how the Feng of this world lived in this house before he arrived, he absolutely did not know.

Time passed by as Feng tried to adapt to the new world, looking like a hardcore survival at the moment. Information, food, and water are the things he sought importance for right now.

As he went out of the house, he found out that he was currently living in a countryside looking environment. There were lots of greeneries, everything looked very simple and humble.

Even the path where he is walking on is basically just soil, not the usual concrete road that Feng often walked on.

“Good morning, Feng! Did not expect you to be up already. Thought you would skip work today and just wanted to play around. Who would’ve guessed that you were so hardworking, waking up this early?” A cheeky looking guy spawned suddenly at the side.

Feng was absolutely terrified at the moment, since he just wanted to look around. He did not have any memories of the Feng in this world and did not know who the hell this guy is.

Feng scratched his head and said, “Ah, that. I was just gonna go somewhere today and not work. I’m busy and I need to go, so see you later!”

He immediately walked in great strides, not waiting for the guy to reply. The cheeky looking guy could only scratch his cheek as he saw Feng avoiding him.

“That guy… He must’ve still felt really embarrassed because of yesterday’s incident. We already told him it’s fine. Jeez…” The cheeky looking guy said in a low voice while scratching his head.

Feng, who was already quite far, had a sigh of relief as he saw that the guy did not follow him. “I need to be careful about my movements right now, but I also seriously need food and water right now… so blast it! Whatever comes, I’ll just deal with it.”

Feng thought while walking as he finally saw a water well. He can see that there was a bucket with a rope attached to it on the side. As he saw someone just passed by with a bucket of water, he knew he has a source of water now. As for food, he thought of checking his pockets and could grab 3 small copper coins.

He walked around as he saw the small architectures and thought that they really looked like old medieval houses that he saw in movies. He saw post signs and thought that he finally discovered something cool. The letters on the signs were weird, but he understood them. He also remembered that earlier, he could comprehend words when the random guy suddenly called out to him.

If you discover this tale on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen. Please report the violation.

At the side, he saw that there was a bread shop with plain looking bread. The assortment was definitely not the best, but they did plenty in the shape department.

He bought a baguette-shaped bread. Actually, he did not have enough money but the old man taking care of the store said 3 small copper coins are fine since he is a family.

He did not know why they would treat him like that, but he was going to take advantage of it and just repay the man later. Currently, food is a priority. He could only give his utmost gratitude as he went off with the bread.

Going back home, he immediately got a bucket and went back to get water. After carrying the bucket of water into a clean vat in the house, he could finally consume his first ever meal in this world. Although it was dry with no supporting dish, it was enough to satisfy his hunger. He did not know whether the water was potable, but it looked very clear and does not smell, so he also had his first refreshing drink.

“This is probably the essence of ‘isekai’. Experiencing new things, whether it's bad or good.” Feng mutters as he wondered what will happen from now on.

Feng was definitely not the type of character who was longing for a different life especially the type of life, where you suddenly have to rely on yourself and go independent. Everyone sought for an exciting life, but Feng was never the type of person who would go out his way to leave his comfort zone.

He lived in the care of his lovely family. Although it was not perfect, it was home for him and probably the place where he felt the most comfortable.

He also had games and anime at home. Experiencing the vast thrill of the fantasy world while just lying on a couch or on the bed. For him, that was happiness.

Of course, he was not just going to live life being lazy, that was why he pursued education, to protect the things he wanted to do by being able to support himself and his family if he ever finds a good career.

In a sense, he lost a lot when he got transported to this world. It was like going back to zero. Alone in a new world where he knows nothing, and no one knows about him either.

Memories of the past appeared in his head as he was scared and anxious that they might suddenly just disappear as if they were just illusions.

Although there were a lot of things was on his mind, Feng was already determined to adapt to this new world.

The famous question for transmigrators is whether they want to go back to their old world or not, and Feng already knew the answer

“I’ll do my utmost to find my way back to my family, but I’m also not stupid enough to not establish a home in this world, if that is impossible.”

Feng enclosed this idea in his heart as he began to fully accept his new fate in this world.

----------------------------------------

Days passed since Feng encountered quite a lot of difficulties on his daily living, but someone really saved him from half of it.

Introducing, the cheeky blonde guy that always spawn out of nowhere, Stupid Chen. He learned the name of this guy when he was going out the next day looking out for a job to earn money or find food.

Stupid Chen suddenly appeared again out of nowhere and greeted him. He told him they were almost late to the work site, and they were going to get a sermon from the supervisor called Mr. Wang.

They indeed got the scolding as Mr. Wang kicked them in the butt and got prepared to do the job for the day.

Feng was really glad that Mr. Wang explained properly to them on what they needed to do for the job because he would be as clueless as the guy next to him.

Their job is to go out into the mountain and pick some herbs with a minty smell. They also got instructions on what they usually look like and where they are usually spotted.

The cheeky guy at the side looked like he absolutely did not listen to the instructions and just went and grabbed Feng out of nowhere. Stupid Chen then dragged him all the way to the mountain near the village.

It was quite the distance, but Feng felt the difference in the body, as he noticed he would pant like an overheated dog if it was in the past.

Feng and Chen arrived at the usual spot where the herbs they needed were gathered. Feng found out that these minty herbs were not as rare as he thought them to be.

He saw Chen with his basket full already and was shocked with his speed. "You already done?" Feng exclaimed, as it was not even that long since they arrived.

Chen heard this and just muttered 'Yeah' while picking his nose.

Feng immediately went towards him and found out that the 'herbs' in this basket are just common weeds and plants.

He could only look at Chen with a dark expression as he flicked on Chen's forehead. "You understand that these things you collected are not herbs, right?"

Stupid Chen was rubbing his forehead as he exclaimed, "They're not!?" with his eye almost popping out.

Feng could only look in Stupid Chen in disdain while also wondering if this guy is just trolling or had air for brains. Chen threw the contents of his basket and went around again. He was fast and immediately went to Feng again to check.

Feng's face darkens even more because he found out that the basket is still full of different assorted plant life, except for one herb that they needed. He interrogated in exasperation, as Chen could only scratch his head in embarrassment and admitted that he could only rely on Feng for this one.

Feng had a deep anguished sigh as he wondered how this guy survived until now.

He picked up the remaining herbs around and made Chen carry both the baskets. After getting a good number of minty herbs, Feng and Chen went back to the village and turned in their spoils.

"Here's your 20 small copper coins. 10 for each of you. Come back again tomorrow. If you don't want, then don't." Mr. Wang said after snorting.

Feng looked at Chen and Chen could only nod to Feng. After they walked away from Mr. Wang's residence, Chen could not help but smile as he said, "Mr. Wang is always so shy. He helps us so much but acts like he doesn't care."

'That's him acting shy?' Feng thought to himself, but did not refute.

They went back to their own home to rest and that was pretty much Feng's daily job. After that day, he continued on his job, and he would often go around greeting everyone and finding out information.

After a week, he was able to find out the names of the people around him so that it would not be awkward when he needs to talk to them later. Most of the job could be credited to Stupid Chen since he always talks about other people, even without Feng asking for it. He was recently feeling more comfortable in his daily living.

Feng thought that his life nowadays was hard, but also relaxing in a way. What he did not know was that his life in the other world will finally start for real.
