Training Techniques

A man is laid down on a moving hospital bed. His face is covered by an oxygen mask, and an IV drip is connected to his arm. Three nurses with their white uniforms are pushing the bed.

This is done with practiced movement and care. A woman is crying as she clings to the bed's metal railings, trying to keep up. Someone pushed open the doors to let them in.

People moved away to provide passage. The patient is being transported to the emergency room. A doctor came, dressed professionally in a white coat, shirt, tie, and stethoscope draped over his neck.

One nurse gave her an overview of the patient's condition. It looks like the patient is in a coma or something. I can't make out some of their words, then the doctors proceeded to shout instructions.

The Emergency Room closes, and the woman was left out.

I woke up early as usual. My life in the Sect started to get better as my nightmares are almost gone. Sometimes I have pleasant dreams of my life from Earth.

I had a dream last night about a scene I watched on TV. It's a scene from the Good Doctor or some movie...I'm unsure because I can only remember some parts of my dream. I only know it was a scene in a hospital.

Uh, let's forget about it. Maybe I miss watching my favorite shows.

Today I will be learning how to train my martial tool. This lesson is exciting because I will be able to understand what is a martial spirit. Experiencing it is something different from reading about it. For me, the martial spirit is still a mystery.

As usual, the day begins with the morning exercise of Qigong. This is called the Elementary Body Tempering Technique. A body cultivation technique taught to all sect members. This technique is one of the reasons God guys sext is one of the top cultivation sects.

This body tempering technique is used to cultivate healthy and wider meridians. The meridians are the passageway of Qi throughout the body. Having a healthy and wide corridor allows smooth circulation of Qi.

This is very beneficial for Qi cultivation and performing cultivation techniques. Thus, Elementary Body Tempering Technique is perfect for a beginner Qi cultivator.

Another reason for its significance is the rarity of body cultivation techniques. Only a few body cultivation techniques exist at the moment. It's because the majority of top cultivation sects look down on body cultivation. They deemed it a primitive way of cultivation and consider it useless.

Body cultivation is considered primitive because of the way it uses Qi. The cultivator must infuse Qi into the body while performing physical exercises. This is done to strengthen body organs, muscles, tissues, bones, etc.

This way of cultivation has slow progress and limited results.

Qi cultivation, in contrast, is the cultivation of the mind and soul. Cultivating the mind and soul is done through meditation. Though there are many different Qi cultivations/meditation techniques. It's a fact that it's faster and has more visible results.

Body cultivation is also considered useless. It's because Qi cultivators believe the buy product of cultivating the mind and soul is a healthy body. It's no longer necessary to cultivate the body. Because by practicing Qi cultivation, the cultivator will eventually have a healthy body. A Qi cultivator can have a stronger body with the same amount of cultivation time.

Thus, body cultivation isn't the primary cultivation way of the Good Guys Sect. The Sect only uses it as supplementary to Qi cultivation. Elementary Body Tempering is the sole body cultivation technique found in the Sect. The rest of the Techniques to be taught or treasured by the Sect are Qi cultivation techniques.

I'm is sorry that you have to listen to all that technical stuff. Let me get back to the "story."

After breakfast, I proceed to the...courtyard. There will be no reading and writing lesson for me today. This is my first day of martial spirit lessons, while others are already their second week.

Reading on Amazon or a pirate site? This novel is from Royal Road. Support the author by reading it there.

Lou Yi said that the teacher only discussed the nature of martial spirits on the first day. Then he will teach the fundamentals of martial spirit training during the first week. After that, students are left to practice on their own. Questions will only be entertained by the teacher at the end of the week.

( I have no choice but to ask for my classmates' "notes."

This is like high school all over again.)

Thankfully, Lou Yi is happy to help me.

"The Martial Spirit is considered the innate talent of the people practicing cultivation. The achievements of cultivators are closely linked to their martial spirit. There are two kinds of Martial Spirit: Martial Soul and Martial Tool. The martial soul is blah blah..."

I already know this part...Can you just skip to the part of how to train it? I almost said it out loud, but I don't want to disrespect Lou Yi, so I let her continue.

"Martial Spirit is a manifestation made of spiritual energy. It takes shape in the physical world. It's generated by a practitioner when cultivating on the martial path."

Whoah...she is getting technical with her explanation. I would have never thought of that. Oh...so the martial spirit is made of worldly energy and spiritual energy. I thought it's made of Qi; it's getting complicated.

"Is Qi the same with worldly and spiritual energy?" I asked her.

"The teacher said that; it's both yes and no. Spiritual energy is what we found all around us. It's the energy we absorb during meditation/cultivation. However, it becomes Qi once it's inside the body." She replied with patience.

"Then our martial tools are not made of Qi, instead made of spiritual energy?"

"That's about right, but... hmmm. I'm unsure since the teacher did not explain further." She replied while holding on to her chin, deep in thought.

"Okay...enough with that. Can we get to the part on how to train our martial tool?" I urged her.

"Our martial tool is a weapon. Just like any weapon, we need to practice how to wield it in combat. However, it's not just any weapon. As I have told you earlier, the martial tool is made from spiritual energy, making it very special. One of its special features is its ability to grow with the cultivator."

(So far, most of what she said I already knew)

"As we grow stronger and achieve higher realms, our martial tool will also grow with us. However, we still need to learn techniques on how to properly wield our martial tools. The Sect provides techniques for different weapons. I already have mine. So after our training, I will accompany you to the Golden Pavilion. There you will choose what technique to train with."

(Oh, this is something new. So I need a training technique for my knife martial tool.)

She paused for a second and asked me. " Do you have any questions?"

"Can I pick more than one technique, and can I choose any technique I want?"

"The Sect provides one technique for free. If you want more, you need to exchange it for contribution points. Also, we are only allowed to enter the first level of the Golden Pavilion. The first level only contains red level cultivation and training techniques. So to answer your question, no, you can't get whatever you want."

(Well, that's to be expected. I only wanted to make sure.)

"If no other question, let me continue. Another special feature of the martial tool is its mystical abilities. We can unlock abilities every time we reach five stars on our cultivation realms. It's an innate skill that amplifies the combat power of our martial tool. The teacher said the skills acquired depended on your martial tool. Each skill is unique, and only the owner of the martial tool can execute such skill."

(Yes, that's how I remember it. Go on.)

"I don't know if I should include this, but I think it's interesting. The teacher has a theory. He thinks there is a possibility that we can control what ability we can get. By selecting the proper training technique, we can influence what ability to unlock. However, his theory is yet to be proven. Cultivators believe that skill is random and only relies on luck."

"What?! Are you serious? That's brilliant!" I exclaimed, surprising Lou Yi. (This is news to me....maybe it can be done.)

"Don't get too excited. It's only a theory, and the teacher admits that it was just a random thought. Anyway, listen carefully because this part I very important. Even though martial spirits are made of spiritual energy, it can be damaged and destroyed. Since the martial spirit is a part of us, we will be affected if it gets damaged.

If it gets destroyed, we will be wounded, depending on the extent of the damage. The only good thing is, it can also be restored, but it will take some time.

To prevent such a thing from happening. We can strengthen our martial spirit by having better training techniques. Or by refining it with the help of a master weaponsmith. The second choice is risky and expensive, but effective. If both methods are not possible, you can avoid using your martial tool and used magic weapons.

Of course, there are advantages to this, but martial tools are more powerful and more comfortable to wield. I won't go more into detail; you can ask the teacher for more if you have more questions."

"Thank you! And sorry for the trouble." I clasped my hand and bowed to her. (She explained everything in detail, so I'm touched because she wasted her time just to help me.)

"Hey, what are you doing? You're too dramatic!!" She said in a panicky voice.

When I looked up, I saw she is blushing.
