A week passes by with nothing of note happening, no more battles so far. I have abstained from creating artifacts inside of the village so my gear is still the same. The group dynamic has changed a little as the second spearman stopped eyeing my gun when he heard a rumour about it belonging to a dragon and now Aelynthi is in a sour mood most of the time. Aelynthi told me about this rumor indirectly when we exchanged words during the rare moments she talked to me, I said nothing to change their view on the origin of my artifact. I am starting to get impatient as not working on my 'artifacts' and not advancing my strength does not bold well in my eyes. My inner mana has reached 5 times ambient but my mana control has seen much more progress, both inner and outer mana control. My bodily fitness has improved in part to all the jogging and in part due to eating fresh food the elves provide: berries, roots, nuts and some vegetables. I keep thinking about meat and whether I am getting a good source of proteins, though I am in excellent physical health with clear muscle definition on my body, slightly broader shoulders than I remember, so all is good.
This morning I was pleasantly surprised by the person who woke me up.
"Lets go."
Yup definitely Kate, straight to the point and emotionless when there is nothing of interest. As we walk we meet up with Aelynthi on the outskirts of the village, Aelynthi looks at Kate with the same way a person would look upon their hero. I had my suspicions before but this may explain why she is not happy with me, as I, a human rank 0 mage, am Kates student. Aelynthi starts talking about something. Kates response is a nod and Aelynthi smiles while she performs some kind of ritual towards me... and we continue walking with Aelynthi next to me with Kate in front. So, Aelynthi is with us now? Alright I guess, how did this happen? Wait is this related to the lifelong servant thing? I ask Kate "Why is Aelynthi following us?"
"She is your servant."
"When did she become my servant, I never agreed?"
"I did."
"What? Don´t I hav.." My speech is interrupted.
"You will do as I say or face the consequences." Consequences?
I am stunned, Kate has never been like this before, almost hostile. Did something happen during her trip? Is her interaction with me a facade? I can only guess. I stop myself from asking what are the consequences...
Talking to Aelynthi did not give any more information on this topic, so we walk in silence back to the cave. As Kate floats us up I notice there are stairs that lead up to her cave, most likely they are there for the elves to be able to visit when needed.
Inside the cave Kate informs me that I have good enough grasp on magic, so the real 'teaching' begins. How do dragons teach... well I found out, by combat, repeatedly. First Kate wanted to see my physical combat abilities, well I disappointed her and as a rank 0 mage like me mostly uses body magic, we did not touch the subject of combat magic. I was told to forget about magic until I can stand on my own two feet like a man... The job of beating me up physically under the excuse of training was left to Aelynthi, who did so with a face of pleasure. Knowing that this process of training me to dodge and take hits will take a long time, therefore any spare time I get I spend on thinking up ideas for future weapons and experiments. Before getting started on working on artifacts, I build a small cube house in which I will do all of my future experiments to avoid a noisy elf and catching unwanted attention from Kate which may be futile as I do not comprehend what Kate is capable of doing with her magic.

I tested out the transmission and receiving of radio signals, it was a success and very easy to do. Problem of information transmission solved, now I need to capture information and to represent it. Sound was easy, I used a graphene sheet suspended in a rock for the recording and transmission, just record the vibrations in air and then repeat said vibrations using another sheet.
Onto visual information, as I have already experimented with EM radiation, it was easy to make a sensor that records the intensity of visible light in different parts of the visible light spectrum. The only difference between this sensor and a camera is that a modern camera has millions of said sensors. As making millions of separate sensors did not seem like a good idea, I took a cube the size of 1 cm made out of granite and solved the problem with a more complex enchantment. By dividing one of the surfaces of the cube into a grid of 1000x1000 pixels and having each pixel record the visual information, I created a camera. As for the screen, taking a surface of 10cm x 10cm and enchant it so it divides its surface into 1000x1000 pixels like the camera but transmit visible light instead of absorbing it. Directly connecting the screen and camera resulted in a device that did not show anything but a blank screen, I forgot to specify the angle at which light should be absorbed and to add a refresh rate as I have no idea how the information transfers using charged mana but limiting the use is always a good idea.
Now I have a directional camera that records infrared, visible light then a screen that represents this information perfectly. Adding mana signature within the visible spectrum was impossible as a mana signature is not EM radiation but is a reaction of mana to intent. Now I know that when I activate my mana sight all I do is allow the visual receptors in my eyes to receive ambient mana reactions to my intent, in other words ‘see mana' using my intent guided inner mana. I have realised why mana sight was so blurry and almost useless unless up close, my eyes can not act as a lens when dealing with a mana signature unlike it does with light. At this moment I have a breakthrough and do the same camera enchantment on half of a sphere. Additionally I take note to improve my mana sight using this knowledge. The half sphere gives me an image that ideally captures visual light with a field of view equal to the half sphere or in other words 180 degrees and removes the need for the enchantment to take the angle into account. Next I concentrate on representing mana using visible light. I make a new screen to represent intensity of visible light in black and white while adding an overlay of mana signature, red for below ambient mana levels and blue for above ambient mana levels. This results in the dragon being marked as a red dot as I see no mana from her, I am light blue with Aelynthi being a shade darker.
My excitement is through the roof as I can now clearly see mana signatures and a representation of its threat, red signifies control of inner mana to such a level that my intent gets no response so obviously extremely dangerous, blue shades represent inner mana density vs ambient mana. I decide to add this viewing option to my goggles with an additional overlay of temperature in shades of green but with a low intensity so that everything does not become green colored. I guess this new viewing mode will be my go to combat mode and I will add an overlay mode where the image is not black and white but just has the color overlays on what I normally see. I believe my combat awareness will be much better now as I will be able to see spells, mages and body heat. Of course it is possible to cloak mana and body heat, most likely such advanced artifacts are non existent because you would need knowledge about visualizing mana which could be common amongst mages but knowledge about infrared EM radiation would be much rarer, unless of course other sentient beings from other technological civilizations randomly pop up on this planet like me, so I have no clue.
