Tears started rolling down from their mother's cheeks.
"You... *Snif* I'm happy that we finally have you," the old woman said while laying a hand on Emcy's shoulder.
'Don't touch me, you old hag! Soon you won't be all that relevant anyways!'
He took her hand off of his shoulder as gently as he could muster.
"I don't really remember all that much from before I hit my had, so could you please explain our current situation?" Emcy asked his sister, completely ignoring his mother.
"Of course, that makes sense, with how dumb you were before, there is no way you could remember anything..."
'Normally, something like this would make no sense at all, but since I was just reincarnated, I can basically say anything, and they will just believe it or even come up with their own theories. There would be a thousand more subtle ways to go about that, but then I wouldn't know how they would react. That's why it's better to go for the bluntest way possible.'
His sister cleared her throat.
"Let me just explain from the beginning.
We are a humble family living in the outermost regions of the kingdom..."
'Why does she suddenly talk like that? Wasn't she normal just a second ago?'
"...in a village called 'plot village'. It's the only village south of the great river that cleaves this kingdom in two, and it's located right next to the dark forest. Usually, one person dies every day due to the evil monsters that inhabit the woods. The..."
"Ah, could you wait a short while? I really have to go to the toilet," Emcy interrupted her.
"Yes, as long as you don't shit in the house like last time, everything is ok," his sister didn't seem to be faced.
"Thanks," Emcy said and walked out of the door.
...
'Goddam, this was going to be way too much info dump. Thankfully I got away in time. But at least I got reincarnated at an excellent location. The village that is placed in the most illogical space. There is nothing here, not even a natural water source.'
Emcy gazed over the vast flatland on his right and the dark forest on his left.
'The only thing here is farms, and they are not even going to be high yielding harvests. I get why an adventurer would want to live here, but normal civilians?
The narrative has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the infringement.
They probably f*ck a lot to even maintain their population, especially when what my sister said was right. If one person dies per day, that would mean at least one new person would have to be born or come here as well.
If half of the population is born here, that would mean that at least 182 women would have to get pregnant once a year... So the population of this village should be at least a thousand, or even more.
Alright, I think I wasted enough time... on with the info dump.'
Emcy walked back to the small hut. As soon as he opened the door...
"Ah, you are back, so where were we? Ah yes, I remember. This village's main exports are..."
...
A few hours later:
Emcy walked through the darkness.
'Who would have thought that she could stretch out so little information to last her until night? Did she really have to explain the entirety of the relation between the kingdom and the racist empire without even telling me anything about actually important things like the social structure and so on? I'm basically not smarter than before.
But at least she answered my questions about their population problems. It seems like all the normal golddigger women enter the harem of some hero. But those who don't look good enough for a hero-harem are coming here since there are many adventures. This dynamic is pretty bad for the rest of the country, though... it's tough for men to find women elsewhere. That's why they have to sometimes borrow them from the heroes for 9 months.
But even though there are heroes basically everywhere, the girl still didn't know anything about them. It's very weird how those kinds of characters always seem to have such specific knowledge about some things.'
While thinking, Emcy had started counting the moons that covered the entire night sky.
'...134, 135, 136... For some reason, the planets that people are reincarnated to always have more than one moon, but isn't this a little bit overkill?
...289, 290, 291...'
Emcy had counted 472 moons before he reached the outskirts of the dark forest. He had to wander a little before he found a stick that seemed strong enough to fight with.
'I have seen some people absolutely devastating entire armies with only a stick, but I will get a better weapon as soon as I can. There is no need to push my luck like that.'
Emcy continued walking.
'But for now, there are a few things that I have to do. Thankfully, my sister had enough knowledge about the different plants in the woods to talk about them for over an hour. The yellow dragon apple is the one I'm interested in. My sister said that it can be used as potent medicine if it's grind into powder, but a coma-like sleep can overcome you if you use too much.
It's supposed to glow in the dark, so it's best to search for it during the night. The sooner I find it, the sooner I can leave this dumb place. But I have to be careful because I can't run away from a monster if one appears. The main character doesn't do that. If I have to run, all of my preparation would have been for nought. I have to follow the formula of being an Mc as close as possible. That's the only way to keep everything predictable, and as a bonus, I will also become very powerful.'
At that moment, Emcy saw something yellow glowing in the dark. He carefully stepped into the woods, slowly approaching the yellow light.
When something to his right rustled, he held his stick a little higher, but nothing happened.
Emcy walked deeper into the woods, coming closer and closer to the yellow light.
Only 5 meters.
3 meters.
1 meter.
Emcy stretched out his arm and reached for the yellow light... just to touch something wet and slippery.
'What, this is not supposed to be like this, right?'
Suddenly a convenient strike of lightning made the night as bright as day, and Emcy looked right into the wide-open mouth of a huge deepsea fish monster.
'Wait, the sky is clear... where did the lightning come from? Ah yes, and also...'
"AHHHHHHHHHH!"
