Chapter 49

When Eleanor returns home, her new look makes quite a scene in the villa.

“Oh my god, Adrian! What have you done to your hair? Bwa hahaha haha! You look ridiculous!”

“My, my! My little girl is growing up! You’re absolutely adorbs, darling!”

Eleanor groans at Gilda and Grace’s response and studies her dolled-up portrait in the mirror. Her long silver hair has been curled and braided into a princess hairstyle and her face is decorated with pigments and glitter.

She sneers at the image and begins to shape-shift.

“Oh no, don’t you dare change back, Adrian! Embrace the inner—Puff! Hahaha!—woman in you! Hahaha haha!”

“That’s right, darling. You don’t want to waste all the effort your friends put in.”

Eleanor snorts and eyes her reflection.

“Fine. If you want me to play the girly girl so badly… I might as well embrace the role and have some fun.”

The devil sharpens her facial features, turning a cute innocent face into a beauty that can trample nations. She places a mole below her left eye, makes her skin glow like moonlight, and transforms her dress to one that emphasizes her… feminine features.

Holy shit, look at the size of these things! They’ll poke someone’s eyes out!

Don’t look. Don’t look. Don’t look. She’s way younger than she looks, so don’t look. Don’t… Gulp!

Eleanor partly hides her alluring smile behind a folding fan and glances back at Princess Grace whose chin touches the floor.

“So… what do you think?” Eleanor says with a sultry voice. “Do I still look… ridiculous in your eyes?”

“A… A… A…” Grace’s face turns pink and she stutters incoherently.

“I didn’t plan on causing a stir at the academy, however…”

Eleanor pushes Grace’s chin up with her fan and bats her long eyelashes at the princess.

“Remember, my princess, whatever happens next… you’re partly responsible for unleashing this monster. Ohohohoho!”

True to her words, the next day, Eleanor’s new look captures the attention of the whole school. Even upperclassmen and researchers can’t help but gawk at the girl who seems to be sculpted from marble by a master artisan. Her inhuman appearance ensnares the hearts of men and women alike and her smile alone can put onlookers into a trace.

Eleanor narrows her eyes in glee at her handiwork.

“I haven’t pulled the villainess card in centuries, but I still got it. Hehehe!”

When she reaches her classroom and sees Xander sleeping in his usual spot, she beckons her classmates to come closer.

“Everybody. Everybody, I would like to make a teensy weensy request. You see, I don’t like Mr. Lazybones over there very much, and would appreciate it if we can all work together to make his life a… living hell. Can you do that for me, pretty please? I promise I’ll make it… worth your while. Oh, and avoid creating objects from thin air. After all… everything has a price. If someone tells you something is free then know that you’re being scammed. Okay?”

Eleanor bats her eyelashes, and at that moment, the poor Prince of the Desert’s fate is sealed… And thus the days of bullying truly begin… He got dirt put into his food. His textbooks are stolen and ruined. His shoes are set on fire. Some boys run up and hit him on the back of the head while giggling. And while all that is going on, Eleanor makes sure Xander knows she’s responsible for his suffering. There is no pity. No guilt. She only grins ear to ear as the boy finds it harder and harder to hide his burning hatred for her.

Oh man, I can’t bear to look at it.

Poor Prince Xander. He ain’t done nothing wrong… yet.

The devil’s been acting chill for so long, I kinda forgot that she’s… y’know?—a literal man-eating psychopath.

The only one who stands up for Xander is Miss Donna Day. The priestess-in-training from the north does everything in her power to stop the bullying, even begging Lady Eleanor. But she only gets mocked for her troubles and ends up being shunned by everyone.

“How dare you claim to be a priestess of God and do something like this?! Have you no shame? You’re nothing but a… but a… monster!”

Donna screams at Eleanor with teary eyes.

“So what if I’m a monster?” Eleanor smiles. “When I have all the power, the beauty, the love, and worship of all those around me. Why I’m practically a goddess! Your lousy god has nothing on me!”

“Heretic! You’ll pay for your crimes! I’ll expose you—show the world your true rotten nature!”

“Good luck, freckles. You’ll need it. Ohoho! Ohohohoho!”

Eleanor hides her evil laughter behind a fan and leaves Donna in bitter tears.

Man, I feel bad for the kid. Hey, does anybody know what happened to Donna Day after all these years? Is she alright?

What about you, Lady Joanna Jones? She was your classmate. Surely you know something about her.

Lady Jones, who is currently working as a security guard in the courtroom, hears the question and points at her sealed lips.

You can’t speak?

She nods and points at the guard captain, then at the judge. The judge sees her gestures and explains,

The securities are here to maintain peace, not to participate in the hearing itself. But of course, if one… or a number of them hold information that is crucial for the trial then they are required to share what they know. So, would you like to hear what this young woman has to say?

The audience chat among themselves, then the screen shows the footage of Lady Jones talking incessantly into Eleanor’s ears, and the audience comes to a unanimous conclusion.

Yeah… we’ll just watch the memories and find out.

Lady Jones in the courtroom rolls her eyes while the young Lady Jones in the memory ceases her talking as Professor Orlando Oak walks into the classroom.

“Good morning, class. I hope you all did wonderfully in your midterms.”

The students moan and groan as Professor Oak chuckles.

“Well, at least the tedious writing part is over. But of course, there is one more examination all of you must participate in… the field test! Pack your bags, boys, and girls. You’re going to enter Umber Tower’s most famous, and most mysterious area… the Amber Dungeons!”

At the end of that sentence, Eleanor feels a tidal wave of hatred rushing at her from behind. She looks to the back of the classroom where Xander is sitting.

For the first time since school started, Prince Xander Xenos—son of King Xerxes, tyrant of the desert—is fully awake and looks directly at Eleanor with his icy blue eyes.

The two of them lock eyes and Eleanor can’t stop herself from smiling from the excitement.

“Finally, the mutt is baring his fangs. Come at me, boy, so I can tear you to pieces! Ohoho! Ohohohoho!”
