Chapter 3

Creakkk.....

I opened my eyes as I heard the sound of the door opening.

I saw my father with his father coming with a bowl of gruel.

He looked mostly anxious but mixed with a little bit of anger.

Well, for now, let's resolve this situation.

"Dad" I said weakly to gain some sympathy, and it worked like a charm as his little bit of anger started to subside.

"I am sorry dad."

"No son, I am sorry I shouldn't have done what I did back then."

"No dad, it's really not your fault that your son has a stupid head,. I mean who would say with a proud look that he actually wants to be a criminal in front of his parents" I wave my hand waved I way I dramatic way to sound as funny as I can be

"Ha ha ha"

It wondered as he had an anxious face and even a little bit of anger started to leave his face.

"Don't laugh dad, I am serious thanks to your punch of love, my head has been filled with nothing but ideas finally cleared"

"Really?" he said, looking suprised.

"Yes dad, really. Now I have a new dream."

"And what is that?" He said curiously.

"I want to be a noble"

My father could only stare at me and be speechless for a moment.

"Oh my god dad, that's supposed to be the time you laugh at my joke" I said, trying to sound angry.

"Ohhh that's the joke" he said as he slapped his leg.

"Yeah dad, come on, there is no way we can be a noble family, i mean we have got not even a single noble bone on our bodies!"

"HA HA HA, That's true. We are a farmer family through and through."

"Right"

"HA HA HA HA HA HA" We both laughed our hearts out as we can control it anymore

...

After the laughter subsided, my father finally looked relaxed and a good time to start asking a question I had been holding out.

"Dad, will I also become a farmer like you?"

My father started hearing my question and his relaxed face started to take a gloomy turn.

Hmm, wait a minute. I think that's not really glammy, more like ..., yeah, it's guilty my father, feeling guilty but why? I don't think he did anything wrong or maybe there's more to this ... for now let's hear him out.

"Well, you can be a farmer could"

Ooh, I think I can hear that sounds after this.

"But on the condition that you will not manage our family land"

I tilted my head a little, trying to look confused as he continued talking.

"Our land is not really that big, it's safe enough to feed a family of three like us, but as your elder brother takes a wife and starts having children it won't be enough, the farm won't be able to feed all of us."

"So, if that happens you will kick me out" I said while looking down, trying to look sad while hiding a smile that started to appear on my face.

"OF COURSE NOT" my father suddenly stood and shouted, looking quite shocked at my accusation.

"Then what's going to happen then" I said while still looking down.

"You will still be staying here at least until you are coming of age, and when you move out I will help you start reclaiming land so that you can start another farm."

I seriously looked at my father and said

"Dad, don't you know how hard it is to reclaim the land. After all you were the one who told me, the how hard it was back then when grandpa started the farm will you insist that I become a farmer despite that?"

"I know, son," he said, while looking tired.

"Why?" I curiously asked.

"Because that's all I can give you."

"Huh?"

"I can't read nor I can write. I can only hope for a merchant's mercy, hoping not to be scammed out of our hard work when selling our products,. I can't be a witch doctor that can cure people and I surely certainly not a hunter that can hunt animals for sustenace"

My father, still looking down, said

"I am a farmer and a farmer's knowledge is all I can give you" he said, for a while, holding out a tear that started to come out of his eyes.
