I was once kidnapped at the age of six back on Earth.
The kidnappers were trying to get ransom from my parents to trade for my safe return.
Three hours after I was kidnapped, I was released.
Not because my parents paid my ransom, but because the kidnappers deemed me too annoying.
I chewed through all the furniture in the house they were holding me in, and when they tried to threaten me with a knife to my throat, I took a massive bite out of that as well.
They looked at each other for a moment, blindfolded me, drove me back to where they kidnapped me, pushed me out of the car, and drove away.
As I was reminiscing about my life back on Earth, I was quickly brought back to my current predicament when one of the other captives poked me in the shoulder.
When I looked over, I saw a teenage boy with a face covered in dirt and grime staring back at me.
"Hey," he rasped. "You don't look too worried."
I shrugged, asking, "Do you know where they're taking us?"
"So you don't know," the boy replied grimly. "Everyone here is going to be sold as slaves in the black market. And if you are not sold, your organs will be harvested to be."
"Sounds terrifying," I said. "Then I guess I'll get going."
"Get going? Do you still not understand your current predicament?" the boy darkly laughed. "These are magic-locking chains, preventing us from using our magic as well as being a hundred times harder than steel. We are all doo- hey, what are you doing!?"
As the boy watched in shock, I brought the chains to my mouth and bit down, cracking the chains. As I chewed the metal, I exclaimed, "Hey, this isn't bad. Kind of tastes like salty caramel."
I then finished the rest of the chains binding my hands and got up. But before I could take a step, I felt a hand tugging at my pants. It was the boy, with hope shining in his eyes.
"Do you think you can also break my chains?" he asked.
The other prisoners watching our interaction started clamoring for my help as well before a yell suddenly came from outside the wagon, "HEY, SHUT THE HELL UP IN THERE!"
The prisoners quieted down but still stared at me with expectation visible on their faces.
I felt a headache coming.
I would probably be able to sneak away alone, but releasing everyone would cause quite a commotion, reducing my chances of a successful escape.
As one of the male prisoners noticed the hesitation on my face, he suddenly threatened, "If you do not help us, I will shout and alert the slave traders you are escaping."
As I controlled my urge to kick the guy's face in, the boy tugged on my shirt again and whispered in my ear, "I didn't want to have to do this, but my name is Wei Ling," and then waited for my reaction.
When I looked at him blankly, he whispered again, "You know, the son of the mayor of Starbright City?"
This tale has been pilfered from Royal Road. If found on Amazon, kindly file a report.
"No."
"Oh," he said looking at a loss for words. "Well, if you rescue me, my father will reward you handsomely. Riches, fame, beauties, anything you want."
"I'm not interested in any of that," I replied. "Do you guys have delicious food?"
"What?"
"You just have to repay me in food, and I'll help you," I said.
"Alright," Wei Ling nodded. "All manners of delicacies will be served to you. And those other prisoners, you can free them as well and I'll take care of the rest."
"Okay, give me your hands."
As Wei Ling moved his hands over, I quickly bit and consumed the chains binding him.
I then stood up and released the other prisoners from their chains as well, not forgetting to "accidentally" knee the person who was threatening me earlier in the head.
Wei Ling then suddenly clasped his hands together and started chanting an incantation causing a white light to shoot into the heads of the other prisoners, causing them all to collapse onto the ground.
"What did you do?" I asked him.
"I cast a magic that causes them to fall asleep for a few minutes," Wei Ling replied. "We have to go now."
"Alright, follow me."
I walked to the iron bars surrounding the wagon and bit into the metal.
A minute later, there was a hole large enough in the bars for a human to pass through.
I lifted the cloth and made sure nobody was watching before I hopped out of the moving wagon and Wei Ling soon followed.
We both then ran into the woods, trying to make it as far as possible before the slave traders noticed that we were gone.
After a few minutes, when we were certain we were far enough, we stopped to catch our breath.
"The prisoners should be waking up about now," Wei Ling remarked. "Come on, I'll take you to Starbright City. It's in the opposite direction of where they were trying to take us."
----------------------------------------
"Keep going, we're almost there," Kolyer shouted out to the rest of his group. "Once we arrive, I'll treat you all to a round of drinks."
The group's cheer was then interrupted by a scream of pain coming from one of the wagons containing the captured prisoners.
"What happened?" Kolyer frowned as he got off his horse to check the situation.
When Kolyer arrived at the last wagon, he was greeted by the sight of one of his men lying on the ground, head smashed into a pulp, with one of the former prisoners standing above him.
"Branson the Wild," Kolyer snarled as he took out his weapon and prepared for a battle. "How did you get out of your chains?"
The man named Branson gave Kolyer a sneer and rushed at him, not answering.
While Kolyer clashed with Branson, more prisoners poured out of the wagon, freed.
The ones who could fight quickly rushed at their captors, intending to take revenge, while the ones who couldn't, fled into the forest.
"GODDAMMIT!" Kolyer roared as he sliced off Branson's head. "KILL THE ONES WHO ARE RESISTING AND CAPTURE THE ONES WHO ARE RUNNING!"
As Kolyer's group sprung into action, some of the prisoners also freed the prisoners from the other wagons, causing the entire area to fall into chaos.
----------------------------------------
Wei Ling looked at me in disgust as I slurped down another one of those slimes.
"Do you want to try one?" I asked as I held out one.
"No thank you," Wei Ling replied as he kept walking.
"Suit yourself," I shrugged.
Suddenly, Wei Ling frowned as he said, "I sense something approaching."
Immediately after his words left his mouth, we heard a roar, and a creature leaped in front of us.
It was a wolf.
A gigantic one, comparable to the size of a small car.
It had dark gray fur, bright yellow eyes, silver markings on its back, and a mouth leaking with drool.
Wei Ling's eyes widened and shouted, "Distract it for a minute and buy me enough time to cast a spell!"
As the wolf jumped at me, I dodged to the side, narrowly missing its sharp fangs.
As I avoided the wolf this way, it suddenly changed its target and jumped at Wei Ling.
Knowing that Wei Ling was the best hope at defeating this thing, I jumped in the way to distract the monster again, but this time, its fangs latched onto my arm and tore it off.
Despite that, I felt no pain and also dug my teeth into the wolf's neck, tearing off a piece of its flesh and swallowing it which caused it to yelp in pain.
I had no time to analyze the taste of it, as the wolf's fangs were nearing my head this time.
Suddenly, a bright light flashed and the wolf was sent flying off of my body and into a nearby tree.
It then climbed up and quickly fled, having given up eating us.
"Great timing," I laughed. "It almost got me."
But Wei Ling was silent and then said, "Your arm... Look."
As I looked down at my missing arm, I saw a strange sight.
There was no blood as would be expected from such a wound, but instead, my arm was slowly growing back from the stump.
"Well," I began. "That's new."
