It was raining at Wellingham middle school, it poured down upon the school as if it were taking a shower. The rain had an ominous feeling about it as if something bad was going to happen that day. But the students inside did not care about that, all they knew was that after school activities were cancelled and that the ground would probably be muddy.
After three hours of rain the arms of the clock pointed at two numbers, 12 and 3, which could only mean one thing, actually it could mean two things, it was either 3:00 or 12:15. But this time it meant that it was 3:00, school was over, it was time to go home.
Jack would normally be excited by this fact because he could do things that did not involve schoolwork. But today he was afraid, not because of the rain, but because he had decided to run for the student council president. Jack knew that it was a bad choice, but he felt that it had to be done, it had to be done by someone.
As Jack packed up his backpack and started to walk down the hall the crowded hallway of students split down the middle allowing Jack to walk down the hall unblocked by other people. It was as if there was a force field around him preventing other people from coming close to him. This is when Jack started to hear the murmurings of his classmates around him.
“Is that him”
“He is so done for”
“Why would Jack do something like that”
Jack was getting nervous, a storm was coming, not a literal one because it was already raining but a figurative one. Something big was going to happen today and he would be of it. At this moment a loud voice came from behind him causing the chatter that surrounded him to instantly silence.
“Well if it isn't Jack Gorbido everyone's second pick for the student council president”
A case of theft: this story is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.
The voice came from a lanky black haired middle schooler named Peter Kradlive, whose presence dominated the normally peaceful atmosphere of the school. He stood out from the rest of the students because he wore a tailor made suit, and he had a distinctive unibrow that stretched from one end of his face to the other.
“What made you think that you were even qualified to run against me. It insults me to even be compared to the likes of you”
Jack could barely come up with a response on the surface they were both middle school students attending the same school, but the reality of the situation could not have been more different. While Jack might have been a great student who got A’s in all of his classes and was a part of the student council, he was still leagues behind Peter.
Not only was Peter born into a wealthy family, he was a natural born genius. In every one of his classes he was able to get a 100% on all of his assignments. But were Peter truly shined was his ability to manipulate the school, with his family's influence and his position as student council president he could control everything that happened in the school including who was in what classes, the budgets for the different clubs, and he decided where the class would go on field trips. By using this power he could blackmail any person in the school to do his bidding.
“Y-you can’t h-have this much control over the school, it’s unfair. The people of this school do not want you in control of their lives.” Jack was stammering he knew he shouldn't have done this but in his heart he felt the need to try to stop Peter for the good of the school.
“The people of the school” Peter smiled as he looked around at the circle of students that surrounded them. He then spoke in a loud voice addressing them “Do any of you agree with him, do any of you think that I should not be the student council president”
There was dead silence
Jack was visibly sweating now, he knew that facing Peter would turn out badly for him but this was on another level than what he had been expecting, he had been publicly humiliated.
It was at this moment when Peter snapped his fingers and exclaimed “Joey, Rodrick, finish this up I have more important things to do.” He then turned around and walked away passing by two muscular middle schoolers walking in the other direction. Before Jack could even understand what was happening to him a fist slammed into his stomach knocking him to the ground.
Joey and Rodrick continued to beat Jack up for about 10 minutes before they dragged him outside and threw him into the mud. The metaphorical storm may have ended but the literal one was still brewing.
